    • I like the writing and the analysis. Im a bit lost at the transition to a non monetary system. Most folks seem very territorial about their resources,

    • The Venus project
where does the title have it's origins ?
      Not on Mars or Venus,
Venus is a little town in Florida where the Founders live

The Architecture is out of the 70's 60's, sorry outdated symmetric
a hiding place for Gang violence and vandalism - I lived in a building
like uploaded - nice view no neighborhood - crime scene.....
the missing point are Atelier - Living spaces where people can work
live (workshop homes) and make money!

Americans poor "Romney style" capitalism: Destroy, Rob and hide
on offshore island accounts is based on Insider trading, will not work
in Future with China India Brazil. The contrary a romantic resource shared
economy close to communism ? We have this experiences in Europe.
People don't share resources, why don't ask me.
      The new Green economy
has to feature Middle class entrepreneurs that create a local self
sustaining community with no need for a Police state.
Money will roll into manufacturing, banks have to be removed
from stock market they are not productive just increase
inflation by making 15% of our productive or buy money.

The Founder of the Venus Project is round 90 years old
he deserves all the respect for his noble Life project.
Now the emerging world will define what happens.
Think 2050 Africa has 2 billion people 20% of the
World population and a vital Middle class with Money
on the mobile phone account ( not the bank).
The wealth of the "Western world will go back
to 35% from 65% now as WallStreet transfers
the money to emerging economies not US.

      Time for Solarlife
      Africa 2050 2bn 20% of world

I'm not quite sure how to respond to you. I don't want to offend you because you are aware of the problems we face and appear to be for renewable resources. However, I'm not sure if you just skimmed my article, speed read it, or simply didn't understand any of it. I'm not even sure I understand the point you are trying to make.

I'ts true the designs illustrated were all created in the 50's and 60"s, but that is not the point of the Project, or my article. Were not about building retro buildings, were about changing the socioeconomic system to abolish all money, and make all resources available to all people. Jacque's plan for the Venus Project would eliminate: greed, poverty, war, strife, hunger, government and oppression. Do you have a problem with wanting to get rid of any of those?

It's true, the the originator of this idea is 96 years old. He founded the project in 1975 in Venus, Florida. He started working out how to solve these problems before I was born, and suspect before you were born also. I don't know why he choose the name Venus, is that important to you?

There are plenty of resources in the world for all of it's people and more, including Africa, China and India, if we develop the required renewable energy sources. Please, please read or re-read the whole article, and if you have qualms with certain aspects of the plan, besides the artwork, let me know specifically what you do not like, then I would be glad to address those.

Hi Kelly thanks for your explainer and effort.
I see there is meanwhile a fundamental rupture
      between US and Europe.

      we abandoned communism resource sharing
with artificial money nothing to buy very romantic.
I can understand America with bailing out GM
believes some sort of this style may work, we not.

We live in the middle of Arab spring revolution
and it's results, people want a private business
in dignity, no Venus project would eliminate
poverty in North Africa Mena region the 25 year
old population, that wants to make a living in home
oriented businesses, owned by them, like US in
      the 50's.

The name Venus is irritating because it gives a
space project touch, so many will not continue
      to read for this planet.

The video Africa takes over with Middle class
US losing Middle class, Future happens at Nairobi
Kenya with new Tech centers, look at Google Africa
could show only short part- because conf video limits
Jeremy Rifkin with Hy Web would be an alternative.

Sorry for the architecture a classic Bauhaus style
but not for today - a crime center with no workshops
      to make money

Take my excuses for answering late, I just prepare
my guys for 2012 4L Trophy - 1.000 classic cars
Renault 4L 30 years and older make a 6.000 km
journey to Morocco to deliver school books , well
we have a low cost solar panel on top for charging
I-Phone blackberry Pentax camera, this is it what young
      people want adventure...

let's continue the dialogue in a contradictory way,
      that's actually "crowd powered innovation"
Time for Solarlife - let the sunshine come in....

Solarlife: we abandoned communism resource sharing
with artificial money nothing to buy very romantic.
I can understand America with bailing out GM
believes some sort of this style may work, we not.

Kelly: I take it your from a formally communist country or a dictatorship then. I can understand your concern, but let me assure you that The Venus Project is nothing like Communism. It is unlike anything that has ever been done before. Communism used currency as a way to control access to resources. And that currency was controlled by the state. Communism relied on labor from people; the automation did not exist yet that could free people from labor. The only difference between Communism and western Capitalism is who controls the resourses. In Communism, it was the state who was run by a dictator. In western Capitalism it is the transnational corporations and the banks, run by the wealthy elite. Both Communism and Capitalism are disfunctional because of corruption and the desire for power and control.

Our proposal removes the one element that enables corruption, accumulation of power and control of the resources. We get rid of the money. This would not have been possible before, and it still will require effort to make work, even now. Thats because the system we propose replaces human labor with automation as rapidly as possible. Instead of resources being scarce, they will become infinately abundant. The key is energy, including solar, wind, geothermal and wave power. Once the production of energy does not require capital, and does not have to compete with low cost sources like oil and coal, we can develop renewable sources for all the energy we could ever want. With ample enery we then can access all the other resources we want. Private ownership will not be nneeded when you have access to anything you could ever need at all times. All of this is enabled though modern technology. There will be no politicians to corrupt and control the system for their benefit, it will be the purest form of democracy.

Solarlife: We live in the middle of Arab spring revolution
and it's results, people want a private business
in dignity, no Venus project would eliminate
poverty in North Africa Mena region the 25 year
old population, that wants to make a living in home
oriented businesses, owned by them, like US in
      the 50's.

Kelly: I can certainly understand your desire here. You have never lived in a free capitalist society, and have no point of reference. It will likely give you a much better standard of living than you have had. The desire to own a business though is not because you have a burning desire to work 18 hours day with a 1% chance of success (in the US only 1% of businesses survive after 10 years), it's because you want the things that the success would give you; a nice home, plenty of food, and all the comforts afforded the wealthy people in your region. Dignity is the abity to not be in a position that is below another person, it's the ability to be the master of your own life. That is what our proposal offers. You will be free to pursue the things in life that are important to you. You will not be shackled to a job in order to survive on meager wages as it is now.

While I can certainly understand your concerns, you will soon come to realize that any system that uses money permits the accumulation of power, and that power is used to control people; even in a free democratic country like the US. We are not truly free, or a democracy. Our polititians are corrupt and answer to the large corporations, not the people. The people lost control years ago, now they just let us vote to make us feel better about it, but it makes no difference. The US is not a good neighbor. Our transnational corporatons will come in and dominate the markets pushing most of your businesses out of business. They are ruthless and will stop at nothing to make a profit, including the assasination of any leaders who goes against them.

The world bank will come in and loan your country a ton of money. All the money will be paid to the transnational corporations to do work, and not go to benefit your people. When your country can't pay back the loans, we'll come in and force you to make deals giving our corporations all the power and access to resounces like oil and gas. It's what they have been doing all accross the globe since the end of world war II.

Yes, it can. However we have a long ways to go to educate the people. It's not going to be a simple fix. It involves nothing less that restructuring all of the institutions of our global society. Institutions that will not go quietly.

    • So, my response is essentially the same as always - a beautiful and positive plan IF humanity en masse fully adopts the one principle essential to a true civilization - human shall not prey upon human.

Unless that happens, the Venus Project is doomed to failure. It is nothing without people and people have to respect one another if they are to live and cooperate on the scale this project envisions.

Human history proves that, given utter catastrophe, human beings give up their petty ambitions and work together. Let them get comfortable and the pettiness returns.

Humanity must change fundamentally to break from that pattern.

    • This is the most beautiful thing I have read in a very long time. I mean that sincerely. It is much in line with how I have imagined things should be.

"Imagine all the people sharing all the world" -- Imagine, John Lennon

      I do imagine this.

Thank you! I can't even put into words how much I enjoyed reading this.

    • Venus:
What happens on a planet with too much greenhouse gas.
      Mars:
What happens on a planet that lost its ozone shield.
This observation is what led NASA scientist James Lovelock to arrive at the Gaia Theory which proves Earth is in a Goldilocks position among planets.
For the first time in human history (that we know of) we understand what makes a planet too hot or too cold.
Evolved humans must take responsibility NOW if we are to escape the fate of Venus and Mars!
It's really not that hard to understand when you really think about it.

    • Actually hemp can entirely replace (petroleum) oil, there was never a need for it.....

"Climbing out of the trees".....? For starter I never left, and the evolution implications, weak theory is all..... (genetically engineered by aliens seems more likely)

"Imagine a world where drug discoveries were instantly shared with the entire scientific community, and once proven safe are not withheld from anyone."
(that's half the problem, we're all to busy imagining shit)

      Nope.....

It sounds nice, but it would inevitably be warped then corrupted like any other system....

      Don't be so cynical, Anonmaly.
Not very many of us can still live in trees and grow hemp to fuel our engines or cure all our ills.
We need many more visionaries like Kelly and The Venus Project in our sorry ass world!

your thoughts can certainly be part of the solution and based on your comments here that I have seen we think very similarly....let the negative go for a better tomorrow though there is enough of that being pushed on hope already

Tho it is hard to imagine for many , it would work . Gift economy , at Burning Man , as i have experienced it , strongly ENCOURAGES excellent behavior . There are still a few people who do awful things , but the percentage is massively DECREASED . There is almost no incentive to act cruelly . Relationships between people become the currency of social structure . Also , there are other cultures that have existed . John Lennon was NOT wrong . What you can imagine can be created . You know , like flight , or going to the moon .

    • Kelly I am so glad you have brought attention to this idea. Have you signed up with them or joined any of their groups? Thoroughly studied the info on their site and it is as wonderful a goal as I hoped it would be. Feels like the idea stepped right out of my thoughts and you certainly do it justice with your thorough and completely approachable explanations. Kudos for your effort...think I'll try to volunteer in any way I can.
