I'm still not finding anything substantial regarding the health hazards. I do find commercial websites that seem to pander groups who are paranoid about government spying as well as those who are overly concerned about the effects of wireless communication. This is just a way to make money off of the sale of tin foil hats.

Seriously? I guess I shouldn't be surprised that we selfish Amerikans are bitching about not having the right to screw the planet for our own good. Smart meters are part of the smart grid which allow utilities to better manage power over the grid, saving energy in the long run. Health risks? Do you own a cell phone? Do you prohibit everyone near you from owning a cell phone? Privacy? What is it you think the utility is going to do with your meter info? Who cares?

What is the danger of sitting in front of a computer all day? I'm being serious, because a lot of people come home from work just to get in front of their home computer for several more hours.. it can't be good...I would think that all the extra exposure we have to EMF's would make us even more sensitive to the meters. Makes me want to go live in a cave!

Are there any studies supporting the health danger claims in the video?

BrushwithDeathToothpaste:
Good question. Not a lot.
The type of radiation emitted by both cell phones and smart meters has been linked to cancer by the World Health Organization (WHO), reversing its previous stance. Radiofrequency (rf) radiation has been placed in the same category of carcinogens as lead, DDT, engine exhaust, pesticides, and chloroform. That means smart meters even moreso as Hirsch reports smart meters to emit up to 160 times the whole body radiation compared to cell phones. (SMD)

This article NY Times and one study - Health Concerns Over 'Smart' Electric Meters Gain Traction in Calif.
But are they actually dangerous? A study released last week by environmental consulting firm Sage Associates contends that they are. The report claims violations of federal emissions standards at a variety of distances from the meters and argues that the devices are more dangerous when grouped together and when coupled with other wireless technologies.

BrushwithDeathToothpaste:
WHO, has classified RF as a class 2B carcinogen last May. There are numerous pier reviewed papers that indicate problems. I have seen reports of higher brain cancer rates in teenagers with high cell phone use. As a scientist I am concerned, although I hope the effect is small or none, ie. when the truth is eventually known. You will be sure that big business will fight this tooth and nail as the tobacco industry did.

Incredible photo. When I see houses that are located next to these monstrosities, I always wonder if they know, researched or read anything about those things. Bathed in it is correct.

Good link. The hyperlink to "how to guide for hacking your local utility," didn't realize how vulnerable the "smart grid" was.
