Brazilian govt working to overturn historic decision on Belo Monte Dam: Please take action

JanforGore
We recently celebrated the news that a high court in Brazil had ordered the immediate halt to construction of the Belo Monte Dam due to a lack of prior consultations with affected indigenous peoples. Now, however, the Brazilian government has presented a complaint to the Chief Justice of the Federal Supreme Court to overturn this historic ruling. The suspension of the Belo Monte Dam could be ruled on at any moment.

Send an email to Supreme Court Chief Justice Ayres Britto calling on him to respect the rights of the indigenous peoples of the Xingu and to continue the suspension of the Belo Monte Dam!

    • Greed . It ruins everything . I think it should be considered a mental illness . Then maybe we could have responsible people calling the shots .

    • - Cut down all around this area of Moon's Crossing. I was going to post another image of a more beautiful local place I loved nearby (Emerald Forest), but I've hidden it to save myself looking at it too often (because it's all been logged) and can't ATM find it among my collection of photos.

Another attack on the lives of Indigenous people who want nothing more than to continue their way of life in their home in natural wilderness they love.

Many need to realize the heartbreak felt seeing the world you live in destroyed. Imagine the Cities many live in disappearing under the waters of a massive dam to benefit the pockets of a greedy few. Imagine chainsaws and bulldozers destroying and leveling all and everything as far as you can see while driving mile after mile, after mile, after mile for over an hour in once untouched environment you grew up exploring, playing and relaxing in. Something you never dreamed possible under even the worse conditions imaginable.

Many appreciate the homes and communities they grew up in, and the many benefits they enjoy from friendly local cafes and businesses, movies, live music, art, and inspiring and productive collaborations that allow opportunity to develop for all who participate. Schools, Universities, Colleges and the chance to achieve something worthwhile with your life, maybe something you even love.

People that grow up surrounded by natural wilderness, on the banks of beautiful rivers, surrounded by sprightly native birds and their songs, unique and amazing animals, rare stunning or unusual plants and their wildflowers, and wonder among the magnificent ancient trees in a state of absolute wonderment and bliss, that even amazed those from other countries that you walked through this wonderland for kilometers while they were vacationing on holiday.
The destruction of this world is like your heart breaking. A big hole is forever left in your heart that can never be addressed. Even decades latter it cuts deep as you wake from your slumber, still stunned that this is the reality and it can never be undone.

Thank you. I cried watching this. This is happening globally as we sit and watch these good people who care about the Earth having their culture and land destroyed all for the almighty dollar.

I battled for years with my local indigenous elders and my Gran to save their heritage, historical sites and our wonderful forest home. The local Forestry Department bulldozed all their most precious sacred sites and trees after promising to protect them (they left the trees where peoples heads had been nailed to).

Animals! That's all I can say about the scum from the Forestry Department of the 1980's. Not much has changed. Actually it's probably worse now and getting worse every year.

Stupid people know nothing about the plants in the world around them today. How to survive in the world they live in without their consumer items. Elders will teach you if you are human enough to talk to them, show a little respect. The Elders had to teach me what racism was as a child because I couldn't even comprehend someone would treat another person badly.

I cried too. Damn it's so utterly appalling what has become of things. I was considered unusual and strange by my school deputy principal for my concern over our direction back in the 80's. Some locals called me nigger lover. My Indigenous elder responsible for most of my teachings (his children were stolen from him and his wife) was hung by corrupt police officers because he was the last custodian for our area with an unbroken link to the land and the government feared his rightful claim to land that was not even privately owned and big logging companies wanted to log and mine.

Unbeknown to them we saved his son and changed his name so they don't know where he is. They cut his mother up with a knife but she still survives despite some serious trauma she deals with daily. She was my second mother and I was broken by what they did to such a beautiful women who treated me as her own with love and respect few others could match.

Damn them for what they did to my community. I hope they enjoy the years of fear they now spend running from litigation investigation and fear of being exposed. Every now and then I kick things off again. I have so many documents on those corrupt cops and politicians and every now and then a little bit turns up at crime investigation units and media outlets to scare them. Of course I hold onto the serious evidence and important details until all their mates no longer have positions of influence, then whamo! Those crooks have to look over their shoulder and wonder when they will be fully exposed all their lives.

That's just evil. Your courage is commendable. What these governments have done globally for so long is nothing short of genocide in my eyes. I hope the day will soon come when they do see their ivory towers fall.
