    • Anderson Silva scores first round KO over Irvin

UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva reminded people why hes the best pound for pound fighter in MMA on Saturday night.

Bigger and Better, Silva Demolishes Irvin
      By Thomas Gerbasi @ufc,com

–UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva didn’t see his pound for pound crown tarnished at all in his UFC light heavyweight debut against James Irvin tonight at The Pearl at The Palms. Instead, his 61 second knockout win showed that if anything, he’s getting better and more fearsome with each outing.

“I’m a Muay Thai fighter, I’ve been doing it since I was a kid,” said Silva. “I didn’t come up to the 205-pound division to disrespect any fighters, but if you stand up and exchange Muay Thai, this is what happens.”

After the ritual touch of gloves, both fighters traded kicks to start the festivities. A few tense moments later, Irvin fired a right kick to the side which Silva caught. ‘The Spider’ proceeded to fire a right hand straight down the pipe at Irvin that landed flush and put him on his back. Silva pounced with a series of shots, but just when ‘The Sandman’ appeared to be weathering the storm, a final right hand knocked him out at the 1:01 mark.

It was yet another clip for Silva’s highlight reel, but when it comes to a permanent stay at light heavyweight, the pride of Curitiba still wants to take care of business at 185 pounds unless bigger fights present themselves.

“This was my first time coming up here and it was a good experience,” said Silva. “But my responsibility is to defend the 185-pound title.”

With the win, Silva improves to 22-4. Irvin falls to 14-5 with 1 no contest.

    • Mayweather puts HBO commentators on blast

"Even a guy like Jim Lampley, he praises Kelly Pavlik -- who has won some good fights, he beat Jermain Taylor twice, we have to give him credit for that -- but they talk about Kelly Pavlik, a white fighter, like he's the second coming Or they go crazy over Manny Pacquiao. But I'm a black fighter," Mayweather said. "Is it racial? Absolutely. They praise white fighters, they praise Hispanic fighters, whatever. But black fighters, they never praise.

"I've noticed it for a long time but I couldn't say anything because I had to do business with them. I'll still do business with them, but I'm done holding my tongue. I think HBO is great. But their announcers are full of s--t."

    • Witness Accuses Mike Tyson In Plot Against Brooklyn Gang

Dwayne "Thor" Meyers, an alleged member of Cash Money Brothers, testified that Mike Tyson was one of the people to contribute to a $50,000 contract to kill at least two members of the notorious Brooklyn street gang. During a Thursday trial against alleged CMB member Abubakr Raheem, Meyers claimed Tyson and Muhammad Nur helped orchestrate the hit on CMB leaders Damion "World" Hardy and Edward "Taz" Cooke.

"We got word Mike Tyson and [another man] had both contributed $50,000 apiece for the murders of Cash Money Brothers," Meyers testified. Although the contract was never carried out, Meyers says it was solicited in retaliation for the June 2000 killing of Tyson's bodyguard and close friend Darryl "Homicide" Baum.

    • Bernard Hopkins: Out Here Brett Favre-in'

The comparisons are becoming so routine that one can begin considering them cliché – Bernard Hopkins and Brett Favre. Both athletes - who are supposedly well past their primes - have the opportunity to go out on top of their game.

Favre took a Green Bay Packers team, that many considered destined for an early first round draft pick, and had them one game away from the Super Bowl. Although it wasn’t the storybook curtain call that is regularly found in made-for-TV movies, it was about as good as it gets for an athlete his age.

His retirement seems genuine but only time will tell if it holds true.
Hopkins has a chance to walk off in glory if he is able to topple undefeated...
