VINYL APOCALYPSE: New and Original Art on Vinyl
Many have lamented the slow fade of vinyl records. Even if you were born after the rise of the CD, it's easy to get nostalgic about the warm crackle of the spinning turntable or the large-scale beauty of album art. Lower Haters' newest show is a record reconnaissance, bringing vinyl into the digital age without diminishing its traditional pleasures. More than 30 local artists have turned shiny black discs into canvases, flooding the grooves with paint. At the opening, DJs TopCat, Romanowski, and Enki put their vinyl to use the old-fashioned way.

Lights Out for Climate Change Awareness (SF 10/20/07)
On October 20th, 2007, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Bay Bridge, Coit Tower, City Hall, and the TransAmerica Pyramid are all going dark to promote climate change awareness. They are asking all San Francisco residents, businesses, churches and government entities to turn off all non-essential lights for one hour from 8 - 9 pm on October 20, 2007 and install one energy-efficient light bulb in an effort to raise awareness about conservation and reduce carbon emissions. LightsOut is actively distributing over 100,000 low energy light bulbs for free over the next month whose energy savings would equate to the eliminating the release of 18,600 tons of green house gases or the equivalent of taking 2,600 cars permanently off the road.
