Sublime Surrealism in Animation...The Artistry of Norman McLaren
Instead of the usual "e-card" for my birthday, I was sent this animated short.
Suffice to say, it blew my mind. From 1940 and without the aid of a camera, Mr. McLaren scratched and coloured these wild images directly onto 35mm film, frame by frame.
His work is like nothing I've ever seen. "Spook Sport" Enjoy!

The flamboyant mustache: Salvador Dalí on “What’s My Line?”
In 1952, the goofy surrealist artist Salvador Dali made a hilarious, comedic appearance as a contestant on the then very popular television game show, "What's My Line?"
This piece presents stunning photographs, the very humorous video of Dali's wackiness on the "What's My Line?" show, a music video that pays tribute to Dali's surreal paintings, (surreal) music audio and a wonderful photo-gallery of his paintings.
It's all great fun!! In 1952, the goofy surrealist artist Salvador Dali made a hilarious, comedic appearance as a contestant on the then very popular telev... more -

Feed the Herd Theatre Company
Born in a back alley gutter, drunk on the lower east side where there are, in fact, no back alleys, but small theaters that at the time more resembled basements anyway, feed the herd was dropped, homeless and penniless into a vegetable crate at the little bodega that used to sit on allen and stanton where it was mostly ignored until a handful of hungry postgrads found it performing indiscernible experimental commedia plays from the 16th century.
It quickly became a horrible beast hellbent on taking over it's membership and eventually small eurotrash hostels throughout the midwest that were, sadly, destined to go bankrupt. As it's body headed west and dissipated south, it's ungainly production format took a sickening turn for the worse. like a god that needed to be worshipped, the herd went into hibernation.
Soon it wakes. be prepared. it bites when you tickle it. and smells oddly of irish whiskey. Born in a back alley gutter, drunk on the lower east side where there are, in fact, no back alleys, but small theaters that at the tim... more -
