    • Obama’s Berlin Speech: This is the Moment to Stand as One

Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama arrived in Berlin on Thursday, kicking off the European leg of his overseas trip amid high expectations. Huge crowds of Berliners eagerly looked forward to Obama’s speech in front of the Tiergarten’s 226-foot high Victory Column, which previously has been a backdrop for various mass events.

For many Germans, Obama is the embodiment of the American dream and the ideal of a land of opportunity where everyone can make it to the top, regardless of race or social background. At a moment when anti-American sentiments have reached unprecedented heights in Germany, Obama is seen by many Germans as a symbol of hope and change for the good.

This detailed article presents a number of photographs and three videos, including the live video of Obama's full speech that was given at Berlin's Victory Column.

    • Periodic table gets 2.0 makeover

I've never been too good at Chemistry, I used to find it dull. But, back in the days, all we got was Web 1.0.

Now, thanks to Professor Martyn Poliakoff, you can enjoy the Periodic table in all its Web 2.0 glory. All 118 elements are explained with YouTube videos filmed at the University of Nottingham.

You will be delighted to know that there are editor's picks (Phosphorus) and a Top 3 section. Apparently, Sodium rules.

    • Burlesque Queen Tempest Storm: Still Strippin’ Away at 80!!

Old burlesque strippers never die, they just keep on hoofin' away. At 80 years-old, Tempest Storm is still performing her famous burlesque strip act in Las Vegas, Reno, Palm Springs, Miami and Carnegie Hall. And when Tempest performs on-stage, she carries herself as the headliner, a very classy star.

Her act remains symbolic of the old, golden days of strippers in burlesque. Tempest knows nothing about that pole-dancing stuff and would never even think about putting her derriere in a man’s face. Her stage prop of choice is still an orchid-colored boa, perhaps the occasional velvet divan.

At the age of 80, Tempest is rarely sadly nostalgic about the past. There’s no doubt in her own mind that she is still every bit as sexy as she was in the olden days of her burlesque career.

The article includes great present-day and vintage photographs, as well as two spiffy videos (current and vintage) of Tempest's classic burlesque stripper performances.

    • UFOs: Past, Present and Future an official, government involved documentary

Hi guys might be many of you dnt know that,In 1974, American documentary producer, Robert Emenegger, was asked by the Republican Party to produce a film about UFOs, using only official, government people and files. He was promised footage of an actual ‘flying saucer’ landing that had occurred at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico back in 1964.

His film was made and given the title of UFOs: Past, Present and Future.

Unfortunately, the promised footage was never forthcoming, but Emenegger had shot the dramatized parts of the segment beforehand (air force officers answering telephones, emergency trucks driving around, that kind of thing). These would have been used as inserts into the actual landing footage. What he was forced to do instead was use paintings of the alien craft and the meeting that occurred with its occupants.

A few years later, in 1976, the documentary was re-released as UFOs: It Has Begun and again in 1979 (no doubt to cash in on the success of the Steven Spielberg smash-hit movie, Close Encounters of the Third Kind), with additional material added from French ufologist Jacques Vallee and sections concerned with animal mutilations. more on www.ufoblogger.blogspot.com

    • The Victimization of Dalton Trumbo: Political Persecution in America

Dalton Trumbo was a prolific Hollywood screenwriter who wrote dozens of movie scripts during the 1930s and ’40s. In 1947, Trumbo was called before the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) as part of the Hollywood Ten, who were questioned about their ties to the Communist Party. Trumbo refused to testify or divulge the names of others, and was found in contempt of Congress.

Subsequently, he was kicked out of the screenwriter’s guild, and all of the Hollywood motion picture studios almost immediately blacklisted him. For his refusal to testify in the HUAC hearings, Trumbo eventually served nearly a year in federal prison. Dalton Trumbo’s ruination took him from being one of Hollywood’s highest-paid writers to a Hollywood pariah.

After his release from prison, Hollywood kept him on the blacklist for a decade. Nevertheless, he kept writing for films under various pseudonyms. He won an Oscar in 1957 for one of those films, but couldn't pick it up. It is the only unclaimed Oscar in the history of the Academy Awards.
