    • How To Eat A Kangaroo

The question of how to eat an environmentally-conscious meal has a number of answers. For example, in Australia, researchers have suggested that kangaroo meat would be an ethical replacement for beef. • Eat less meat to fight climate change

From the Report: Rajendra Pachauri, chair of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), told The Observer that people should start by having one meat-free day per week then cut back further.

The 68-year-old Indian economist, who is a vegetarian, said diet change was important in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and environmental problems associated with rearing cattle and other animals.

"Give up meat for one day (per week) initially, and decrease it from there," he said.

"In terms of immediacy of action and the feasibility of bringing about reductions in a short period of time, it clearly is the most attractive opportunity."

Other small-scale lifestyle changes would also help to combat climate change, he said without elaborating.

"That's what I want to emphasise: we really have to bring about reductions in every sector of the economy."

Pachauri is due to give a speech in London on Monday under the title: "Global Warning: the impact of meat production and consumption on climate change".

Pachauri, who was re-elected for a second term six-year term as IPCC chairman last week, has headed the organisation since 2002 and oversaw its seminal assessment report in 2007 which gave graphic forecasts of the risks posed by global warming.

The IPCC warned then that without action the planet's rising temperatures could unleash potentially catastrophic change to earth's climate system, leading to hunger, drought, storms and massive species loss.

The organisation also won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 along with former US vice president Al Gore.

    • Meet Your Meat - A great film about Global Warming and Animal Rights!!!!

This is a great film, narrated by Alec Baldwin....I saw this for the first time at a vegan festival in Tampa about 5 years ago, found it on YouTube....and love it....

If everyone saw this movie, it could change their lives....

If all of us knew the truth about what goes into the dead animals we eat, and we stopped eating dead animals and developed a vegan lifestyle, we could save out lives, the animals' lives, and the planet....

      What do you think?

    • Home cooked pet diets for cats and dogs

For thousands of years the "art" of eating food to preserve health and prolong life was practiced in the Orient and in Ancient Greece. The consumption of food evolved beyond just eating for pleasure or survival, it became a treatment for imbalances in the body. The basis for health and happiness is the Chinese aphorism: "You become what you eat". I believe this is true for animals as well as humans.

Coreen and Neezer, Kauai Clients Animals come into our lives as gifts from God, for companionship, to teach us, and to heal us. They deserve our very best efforts in caring for them.

    • Fashion Design Maven Stella McCartney Going Green For Barneys

Stella McCartney is bringing a "green" collection exclusively to Barneys New York.

The specialty retailer asked the designer, who has famously renounced meat and leather, to create the line. Barneys in February began an initiative to introduce eco-friendly and ethically produced products into its stores with the launch of the Loomstate for Barneys collection in 12 Co-op units.

WWD reports on Barneys continued eco-obsession, and their new exclusive collection by Stella McCartney.

But maybe more interesting than the story's newsy bits - Phillip Lim will also make organic dresses, Barneys will soon stock bamboo skateboards - is the assessment about Stella's line, from fashion director Julie Gilhart:

"It does not read organic in any way, shape or form."
If Stella's new line looks like her normal clothing, that's good news for shoppers, but some new issues do arise:

Are organic garments as durable as synthetically made ones, or will they self destruct - much like some of Stella's very expensive handbags?

And is eco-fashion really going to fix anything? Or is it too late (and too naive) to think that saving the world can happen with some earnestly sewn jeans?

    • Global warming solutions we can start now: Quinoa a 'protein powerhouse

Locally referred to as the 'mother grain' and as a 'protein powerhouse', it kept the Incan armies strong and robust. Quinoa is nutritionally charged and is considered one of the best sources of protein and amino acids by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. A great vegetarian alternative, red quinoa, as well as being particularly nutritious, is a light grain with a delicate taste. This nutritious, gluten-free quinoa is naturally fragrant and is perfect for couscous, pilaf or salad.

As an almost Vegan person I was enthusiastically encouraged to try this.t is excellent tasting and gives me lots of plant based protein which is important.

    • Global warming solutions we can start without permission from Bushie

If everyone in the US considers a vegan diet it would cut drastically on Green House Gases.
      -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Could an all-star National Football League player, all 6-foot, 5-inches and 247 pounds of him, live on a vegan diet and still excel in one of the most punishing jobs in sports?
      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just started going vegan this week. So far I am enjoying it. It is easy now with all the selections and I actually feel better already.
I just heard that if we walk 3 miles, but it is fueled by a hamburger, then it is like driving an SUV because of all the carbon output put into raising cattle.

I wonder if Al Gore would meet the challenge as an example and for his own health.

    • KFC Canada Offers Vegan Chicken!

For more than five years, PETA has been pressuring fast-food chain KFC to stop the worst abuses of chickens, like scalding birds to death, slitting their throats while they're still conscious, and drugging and breeding them to grow so large that they cripple beneath their own weight. Now PETA has scored a major victory and is ending its Kentucky Fried Cruelty boycott in Canada

KFC agreed to a historic new animal welfare plan, which improves the lives and deaths of chickens [in canada]. Animal activist stood months boycotting KFC's and they finally came up with a compromise. This new sandwich will be added to menus everywhere [in Canada] and hoping that the U.S. will follow Canada's view.

KFC Canada's new animal welfare plan and the vegetarian sandwich are enormous victories for PETA and animals. Unfortunately, outside Canada, KFC has not acted to stop the worst abuses of chickens.

But there are still millions of chickens dying brutally. Everyday, for what? You.
