Vantage
'Vantage' is an experimental film that I produced at the end of my junior year in high school. I became inspired in experimental film production after a visit to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's film facility.
Imagery plays a critical role in this film. It is up to the viewer's discretion and interpretation to evaluate this film as well as question his or her own reality... Ecology College Project, Directed by Alan Taylor
I'm currently studying Film and TV Production and for one of our first video tasks, we were given an envelope to open which contained one themed title which we would then have to use as the template for a short video. We were given 'Ecology' and so we went searching around Dalkeith looking for something interesting. At first, we thought to use the park near the High Street but then by chance were given permission by a kind elderly person to film in their stunning garden. The result is what you see. The shot of the trees was filmed just outside the college main entrance and some shots were also filmed in a park near too. Robert Downey, Jr: The Iron Man returns from the Dark Side
This article is a tribute to Robert Downey Jr, and to his successful battle to return from the self-destructive dark edge. It includes a number of wonderful photographs, two music videos ("I Want Love" and "Smile" from "Chaplin"), two Sam Taylor-Wood experimental films in which Downey appears ("Pieta" and "Men Crying"), and the official "Iron Main" trailer. In addition, the article presents music audio and an outstanding photo-gallery.

Sam Taylor-Wood: "Still Life" and the Acceptance of Mortality
Sam Taylor-Wood is a contemporary artist who works mostly in avant-garde video, video installations and photography. She has been identified as one of the leading figures in the younger British Artist Group. Sam Taylor-Wood’s video installations and photographs depict human dramas, isolated emotional situations, and people shown in solitary, awkward, or vulnerable moments. Her works have often featured celebrity friends, including Elton John, Robert Downey Jr., David Beckham and The Pet Shop Boys.
Still Life (2001) has been said to be one of the most classical works in contemporary art. It is part of a classical genre that contains symbols of change or death as a reminder of their inevitability. The short film carved a permanent record for itself in art history with hardly any commentary, confronting the vanity of worldly things through its focus upon the often subtle signs of elapsing time and decay.
This article includes photographs and Taylor-Wood's strangely beautiful, but also powerfully haunting video.

Spin Cycle: The Magic of Wonder Bread
I recently posted an article about Jeff Scher’s experimental short film Still Loaf with Guitar. Spin Cycle is a companion piece; both are earlier films in the series of works illustrating his long-term creative fascination with the illusion of motion via animation. Exploiting the visually symbolic nature of white bread, Scher created a panorama of color and optical effects in both of the films.
Comprised of 78 paintings on paper, Spin Cycle begins as a single slice of Wonder Bread rotating in limbo. As the film advances, Scher adds layers of paint and collage to the individual frames and then re-photographs them. The resulting film is one that blooms with the successive additions of color and texture until the image evolves into a dense and challenging cinematic experience.
Photographs and the Spin Cycle music video are included. I recently posted an article about Jeff Scher’s experimental short film Still Loaf with Guitar. Spin Cycle is a companion piece; both... more -
Postcards From Warren: The Cinematic Legacy of Warren Sonbert
By the time Warren Sonbert was only eighteen years old, he already had become an acclaimed experimental filmmaker in the heady 1960s New York City avant-garde art world and in the city's artistically booming East Village. His later films became more cynically paradoxical, with films solely comprised of harsh successions of cinematic shots delivered to audiences in total silence. He courageously challenged us to confront the inevitable sense of futility in our lives.
This thoughtful article includes photographs, a music video and "Postcards From Warren," a cutting-edge, experimental animated video tribute to Walter Sonbert.
