New 'skin' covered BMW concept car
Fine purveyors of quality motors, BMW, have released a press video of their latest concept car. And it looks crazy.
Sweeping lines, some kind of 'skin' outer layer and no doubt a rapid engine make me want one. Fine purveyors of quality motors, BMW, have released a press video of their latest concept car. And it looks crazy. ... more -
Zero Accident Car
No accidents? No problem. With this car a sensor can detect an approching red light, a pedestrian about to cross the street, and even alert you to a side swiping car. But some analysts are skeptical about this design. They believe that consumers will become lazy with their driving habits and rely on the car to protect them. Honestly I wouldn't mind a car that gave me a heads up when I'm about to make a road pizza out of a business man. Would you like a smashed briefcase and a tie for your pizza toppings? No thank you, I think i'll stick to the plain penny loafer stuffed crust. No accidents? No problem. Hows bout a sexy green car
The thing I liked most about the UK when I first got here was the cars. They all seemed somewhat, er, I dont know, sexier than the ones Id seen in the Caribbean and even the States but now two years later, most cars over here just seem, well, boring and outdated.
Anyhoo, Ive taken to satisfying my car craze by searching for concept vehicles on the web. Ive found quite a few weird ones* that left me wondering whether the designers were sane but Ive also found some [girly word alert] cute ones too. Topping the list of my faves so far are Citroens C-Airplay, C-Cactus (if it reaches mass production stage, I hope they change the name. Cant imagine saying to someone I drive a Cactus), Cruise Crosser and Mercedess F700.
A lot of the cars Ive found also heavily proclaim their green credentials. Perhaps because this year, more than most we are starting to appreciate our role in changing climate patterns (more about this later).
Some of those eco-friendly cars are still a ways away from hitting the streets though and their existing counterparts are, for want of a better phrase, U-gly. Then theres the HPSS. To those of you who dont go out of their way to get free mags, thats the Hybrid Premium Sports Sedan, to you.
The HPSS has both electric and petrol engines to give it extra mileage and more performance than standard hybrids and claims to do a whole lot more than other sports cars can sorry, this post is getting too long.
Youll have to wait a couple years though as its expected to go on sale at the end of 2009.
Find more information about the HPSS at www.fiskerautomotive.com and while youre on the web (coz thats where youll be reading this, I assume) google Renaults Nepta* concept car. I do believe the makers of the Jetsons would be proud of this one.

Toyota RIN, a new green concept car
Ok here goes another concept car post, hopefully the Rin will be a bit more well received than the last!
"Instead of stressing the high-performance aspects of the vehicle, Toyota wants RiN drivers to see driving as a relaxing and meditative experience.
The RiN will do everything that it can to make you feel relaxed and happy. Ergonomic seats maintain your posture and heated seats will keep you comfy. Inside, the car comes equipped with an oxygen-level conditioner and a humidifier, green tinted glazing to reduce infiltration of ultraviolet and infrared light, and windows extending to the floor allow passengers to view the passing landscape at ground level.
The green colors of the vehicle are meant to express harmony with nature. The headlights are designed to make sure that any approaching pedestrians and vehicles arent blinded by them. And the steering wheel controls change color depending on your mood."
Think about what this car could do for you LA folks, sitting on Wilshire at 6pm? Ok here goes another concept car post, hopefully the Rin will be a bit more well received than the last! ... more -

Wooden supercar?
A Japanese furniture maker has created what they call a wooden supercar. Not really what I would call a supercar, but it's interesting nonetheless. Pretty inexpensive, too. Looks kinda like a Flintstones car. A Japanese furniture maker has created what they call a wooden supercar. Not really what I would call a supercar, but it's inter... more
