Magician's next stunt could leave him blind
The biggest danger for magician David Blaine when he hangs upside down above New York's Central Park for 60 hours next week? Going blind.
That's the analysis of Dr. Massimo Napolitano of the Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey. He is the chief of vascular surgery and is advising Blaine on the stunt.
Napolitano told the Bergen Record for a story Saturday that hanging upside down for a long time increases blood pressure in the head, especially in the eyes. That could lead to blindness.
The doctor doesn't say how long the blindness could last, but he says there's also a risk of swelling and cramps in internal organs.
Nevertheless, Napolitano says the stunt could yield valuable data for doctors. The biggest danger for magician David Blaine when he hangs upside down above New York's Central Park for 60 hours next week? Goin... more -

N.Y. Skyscraper has 2 Daredevils in 1 Day
NEW YORK (AP) — A Manhattan skyscraper that is home to The New York Times became the site of twin daredevil stunts Thursday, with two men scaling the 52-story office tower within a matter of hours.
The first man, Alain Robert, unfurled a banner as he climbed that said "Global warming kills more people than a 9/11 every week." He was arrested when he made it to the top.
Hours later, a second man ascended the building — a stunt that drew the attention of thousands of onlookers, along with TV cameras that captured the drama in real time. Crowds on the street pressed against police barricades to watch, and people clapped and cheered for the climber while snapping pictures on their cellphones.
He, too, was taken into custody as he reached the top.
"Only in New York. This is why I live in New York," said 29-year-old Emily Perschetz, who watched the second climber for about 20 minutes. NEW YORK (AP) — A Manhattan skyscraper that is home to The New York Times became the site of twin daredevil stunts Thursday, with two ... more -
French Spider-Man Arrested for Scaling NYT Building
Alain Robert, a French stuntman known for climbing tall buildings, scaled the north face of the New York Times building on Thursday, ascending 52 stories to the roof and clutching a bright green banner, before police officers arrested him around 12:22 p.m.
Police and security officials cordoned off the sidewalk below, on West 41st Street, as a crowd assembled. The words on the banner were illegible from the sidewalk, but from office windows inside the tower the slogan on the banner could be clearly read: “Global warming kills more people than 9/11 every week.”
The man later confirmed, moments after being arrested on the roof of the tower, that he was Alain Robert, a 46-year-old stuntman famous for scaling structures like the National Bank of Abu Dhabi, the Sydney Opera House in Australia and the Eiffel Tower and Montparnasse Tower in Paris. He wore a T-shirt with his name and the address of a Web site (thesolutionissimple.org), exercise pants and climbing shoes. He had long blond hair. He used no rope, harness or parachute.
Police officers blocked off the sidewalk at the base of the building and asked members of the crowd to move along. Construction workers on a building directly across West 41st Street, facing the northern face of the building, looked on with expressions of astonishment and amusement. A crowd gathered on the sidewalk, pointing, gawking and capturing pictures and images with cellphones, digital cameras and video cameras.
“This is a publicity stunt, it looks like,” Janet L. Robinson, the chief executive of The New York Times Company, said as she entered the building. “There is definitely going to be an arrest.”
Wearing a backpack slung over one shoulder, Arthur Ochs Sulzberger Jr., the chairman of The Times Company and publisher of The Times, who is himself an avid climber, ducked under the police tape and examined the spectacle. He declined to comment. Alain Robert, a French stuntman known for climbing tall buildings, scaled the north face of the New York Times building on Thursday, a... more -

Kart Vader VS Rendez Vous, a contrast in Street Racing Styles
People always talk about Rendez Vous as the ultimate street race video, but Kart Vader is the real deal! No fake audio or mystery cars.
Kart Vader is out of his mind and I love it. Lucky he survived!
The real question is, why do both these segments take place in French-speaking parts of the world?
Rendez Vous was filmed in Paris in the 1970s, and Kart Vader is filmed in Quebec in around 2004. I will admit that the Parisian version does have a more artistic appearance, almost Hitchcockian in feel. Kart Vader, being a Quebecois home video, has more of a Jackass, lo-fi, Guerrila quality.
There must be a genetic link to why the French come up with this crazy stuff. I do not think this is a coincidence. People always talk about Rendez Vous as the ultimate street race video, but Kart Vader is the real deal! No fake audio or mystery cars... more
