Six Strong
Welcome to Gainesville, Florida where football is a religion. SIX STRONG begins shortly after World War II at Developmental Research School P.K.Yonge, then housed on the University of Florida campus. In 1946 the school formed a competitive 6-man football team. While the first year their record was only four and four, the next year they were undefeated and were named National Champions.
Sixty years later, nine surviving teammates and their coach come together to meet the PK Yonge football team of 2007, for Homecoming weekend, recounting their memories and their insights into what organized sports have meant to them. Among them, we meet quarterback and team captain Johnny Neller, who would later coach and return as principal of PK Yonge. Doug Dickie would play quarterback for UF and later coach the Gators. Bill Gager, on whom ?the team did not rely heavily?, but who wanted to be part of the gang, won the State Oration contest, fought in the Korean conflict, and worked for the Department of Defense. Mac McEachern, who wasn?t fast and primarily ?warmed the bench? would be on City Council and serve a term as Mayor of Gainesville. Rhesa Bostick would marry one of the cheerleaders and own his own business.
Each has the opportunity to harken back across the years and share their favorite anecdote. The current students in turn ask questions and to their surprise find that despite the difference in their ages, their hopes and anxieties are the same. Bus rides, cheerleaders, homework and the love of the game are universal after all. Ultimately, SIX STRONG is about high school athletics, the enduring bond created by shared experience, and the true meaning of homecoming.

Man shoots his wife in hospital
A 77-year-old Italian man has been arrested after shooting dead his wife as she lay in hospital.
Police in the Tuscan city of Prato said the man shot his 82-year-old wife, who had Alzheimer's disease, three times in full view of medical staff.
The man told police he did it because he could not stand to see her suffer.
His wife had been diagnosed eight years ago with the degenerative and irreversible brain disorder, which causes dementia and eventually death.
It is estimated that 2-5% of people over 65 years of age and up to 20% of those over 85 suffer from the disease.
The man, whose name has not been released by the police, entered the hospital ward where his wife was being treated at around 1730 on Saturday, according to the Italian newspaper, La Stampa.
He then took out a pistol and shot her twice in the head and once in the chest.
Afterwards, he placed the weapon in the corner of the room and awaited the police, La Stampa reported. A 77-year-old Italian man has been arrested after shooting dead his wife as she lay in hospital. ... more
