Little Britain Assaults USA With Equal Opportunity Laughs and Insults
Little Britain and the USA will consummate their “special” relationship on September 28, when HBO airs the first of six episodes of the American version of the popular BBC extreme comedy. Whether the humor (or humour in English) translates remains to be seen.
In England the show’s writers and stars, Matt Lucas and David Walliams, turned preconceived notions of good and bad taste on their head. Their humor falls into both categories at once, and is aimed at just about every minority group one is supposed not to laugh at: the disabled, the obese, and “the gays.”
It’s the only show that would dare ask guest star Rosie O’Donnell, “Are you fat because you’re a lesbian, or are you a lesbian because you’re fat?” –– the question being posed by one of Little Britain’s many larger-then-life characters, Margaree, the leader of the Weight Watchers-like Fat Fighters group. Other UK characters that make the trip across the Atlantic include Vicky Pollard, a young lady that makes Britney look classy, and Daffyd Thomas, who has gone from being the only gay in a small Welsh village to the only gay on an American university campus. ......

A New Meaning for Lesbian Chic
Much of the stereotype of lesbians having poor fashion sense is rooted in cultural prejudices about the "mannish woman" as unnatural and ugly. Though lesbian style was never exclusively about masculine attire, the idea that lesbians tend to dress like men has persisted. This article explores how the perception of lesbian style is changing thanks to the new models proposed by media. Tokyo Rockabilly Dancers of Harajuku
Harajuku these days is famous for the Goth Lolita crowd but years ago it was home to the takenoko-zoku (bamboo-shoot kids). One group took after early rock-n-roll fashion and dance away to old rock.

Appeal over goth murder sentence
Sophie Lancaster, 20, was kicked and stamped to death by Brendan Harris, 15, and Ryan Herbert, 16, in Stubbylee Park in Bacup, Lancashire, last summer.
The pair turned on her as she tried to get them and three other youths to stop attacking her boyfriend, Robert Maltby.
~~~
What made this news stand out to me was what the judge said to the boys who killed her in court.
"This was a terrible case which has shocked and outraged all who have heard about it. At least wild animals, when they hunt in packs, have a legitimate reason for so doing, to obtain food. You have none and your behaviour on that night degrades humanity itself."
He described the Goth community as "perfectly peaceful law-abiding people who pose no threat to anybody" and added: "This was a hate crime against these completely harmless people targeted because their appearance was different to yours."
Angry emos to picket newspaper
Hundreds of very unhappy (even more than usual) black-clad emos are set to march on the notoriously right-wing Daily Mail's headquarters in London to protest against the newspaper's coverage of My Chemical Romance and its fans.
They're especially sad (2x normal emo sadness) about recent articles in the paper that they claim wrongly casts emos as a "suicide cult".
Up to 300 protesters have already signed up and organisers have urged them to be on their best behaviour and pick up their litter. And presumably not kill themselves. Mexican Emos 'under attack'
It has been reported that there has been a bizarre wave of mob emo-bashings sweeping across Mexico.
The movement is being generated on internet message boards and social networking sites by non-emo youth who highly dislike like the emo look and attitude.
According to Daniel Hernanadez's blog, in which he has been keeping up to date with the emo-bashing Mexican antics, it begun about three weeks ago when "an estimated 800 young people poured into the city's Centro Historico hunting for emos to beat the crap out of." He goes onto state, "They found some."
Over the last few weeks the violence has spread across Mexico, with reported attacks sighted in Mexico City, Durango, Colima as well as others.
Check out some of these links and see if you can come up with an explanation as to why there has been such an increase in the amount of 'emo-bashings'.
Tecktonik: youth culture for sale.
Tecktonik is a French dance, has taken off as not only a sub-culture, but also as a marketable "lifestyle trend."
"Unlike rock, or punk, or similar movements, this has a commercial brand name driving it from the very beginning," said Thomas Jamet from Paris agency Reload, which specializes in youth marketing.
