Sheffield Adventure Film Festival
Every year dozens of mountain and adventure film festivals take place all over the planet. The Sheffield Adventure Film Festival, now in its third year, aims to bring together the best of the films shown at the best of the festivals, new films that have not yet been screened, and old favourites. Some of the films featured are available on DVD; the biggest reason for watching them at ShAFF is for a big screen, big sound, big audience feel.
We will be featuring manageable 90-minute compilations of films featuring stunning photography in beautiful locations. Whether you are an adrenaline junky or a culture vulture, a hyperactive kid or an armchair legend there will be films that you will enjoy. We guarantee it! The films will be presented and judged by Ian Parnell, Niall Grimes and Gordon Stainforth. Talking of celebrities, Joe Simpson has kindly agreed to be patron of the event and will be there on the Saturday night giving an exclusive interview with Gordon Stainforth.
In addition to the films there will be live music in the Showroom bar, photo exhibits, a massive bargain area run by Decathlon, a come-and-try-it climbing wall and the return of last year?s city-centre orienteering event. The Climbing Works, the world?s biggest bouldering wall just down the road in Woodseats, will be holding their International Masters Bouldering Competition and also a huge party free to ShAFF ticket holders. Base Jumper Sues Empire State Building
A professional parachutist who tried to jump off the Empire State Building in 2006 filed a $30 million lawsuit on Tuesday against the Empire State Building Company.
The parachutist, Jeb Corliss, 31, accused the building's agents of defaming his character, unlawfully imprisoning him on the observation deck by shackling him to a fence when he tried to jump and causing him emotional distress and lost income. Ever wanted to jump out of a plane without a parachute? No? Well this guy does. Rollover in your grave evil knievel, Jeb Corliss has come to town. A modern day Wild-E-Coyote, Corliss wants to be the first person to land without a parachute from a distance of ten thousand feet. Some would say he's a bit crazy. Okay almost everyone would say he's out of his mind. With his custom made air suit which creates lift by turning vertical acceleration into horizontal movement, Corliss hopes to keep "practicing", that is risk his life dozens of times by jumping with a parachute attached, until someone will fund his "runway" which resembles a skijump landing. Mach Speed Base Jumping!
Those base jumpers are never satisfied. Not content with plummeting to Earth at death defying speeds, it seems Norwegian practitioners now feel the need to propel themselves with rocket packs and wingsuits, hitting speeds of Mach II. They still have to walk back up the hill though...Suckers!

Do you ever dream of flying.....?
These guys take base jumping way beyond anything I have ever seen, they put their life on the line to fulfill mankind's longest collective dream - flight.
I am truly amazed at what these guys are capable of. Inspired by these videos I did a little research on the topic after deciding that I should make it my life aim one day do a wingsuit jump.
