Mexican donkey freed after acting like a jackass
TUXTLA GUTIERREZ, Mexico - A Mexican donkey has been freed from jail after doing time for acting like a jackass.
The Televisa network on Wednesday showed Blacky gobbling food from a bucket after spending three days in a jail that normally holds people for public drunkenness and other disturbances.
Blacky was jailed for biting and kicking two men near a ranch outside Tuxtla Gutierrez, the capital of the southern state of Chiapas.
Officials freed the donkey after its owner paid a fine of $36 and the $115 hospital bill of the men, who suffered bites to the chest and a broken ankle. Authorities say he also must pay $480 to each man for missed work days.
The victims said the donkey bit Genaro Vazquez, 63, in the chest on Sunday and then kicked 52-year-old Andres Hernandez as he tried to come to the rescue, fracturing his ankle.
"All of a sudden, the animal was on top of us like it was rabid," Hernandez said.
Police said it took a half-dozen men to control the enraged beast.
Chiapas police have thrown animals in the slammer before, including a bull that devoured corn crops and destroyed two wooden vending stands in March.

Why are the transatlantic cables snapping?
A strange epidemic of undersea communication cables have been severed or damaged since January 30 effecting internet and phone traffic through out the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia. The first 2 cable cuts were initially blamed on ships anchors but a review of video footage from the same coastal waters show that no maritime traffic had occurred in the area for 12 hours before and after the incidents.

Cash For Predictions: Harnessing the Wisdom of the Many
by Lael
When Abraham Lincoln proclaimed, "You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time," he was making a generalization, not a prediction. Nonetheless, this famous correlation between numbers of people and knowledge does bring the prediction website Predictify to mind. Unlike the shrewd if depressive politician who was our sixteenth president, Predictify anticipates the savviness rather than the foolishness of the masses.
The site allows visitors to weigh in in response to questions about future events posed by other participants. The founders of Predictify got their idea from studies that demonstrate, much to the chagrin of high paid consultants, no doubt, that a large number of regular folks often out guess a smaller number of experts. By offering participants both the fun of a guessing game and the promise of occasional profit (however tiny and only when they guess the answer to premium questions correctly), Predictify taps into the font of collective wisdom.
Topics of questions posed range widely from economics, business and sports to tv ratings, natural disasters, and book sales. And, of course, in this season of high-stakes campaigning, political queries abound as well. So, if you're more concerned with who our forty fourth president will be than with what number sixteen said, visit Predictify. Whether you are a psychic channeler, an informed futurist or a wild guesser, my speculation is that you'll have some fun.

Dentists Help to Detect Breast Cancer?
by Malayna
This combination may bring some odd ideas to mind, but don't worry, you won't be asked to bare your breasts next time you hit the dentist's chair. It seems that scientists at The University of Texas Dental Branch have noticed a difference in marker proteins found in saliva that indicates the presence of certain cancers and are developing a simple test for these proteins. The benefit of this is that many people visit the dentist more regularly than the doctor, and since you will already be opening your mouth, you might as well get all the health information you can. "Maybe one day it will be feasible to go to the dentist to be screened for a variety of disorders in the body, including breast cancer, " said Professor Damien Walmsley, scientific adviser at the British Dental Association in an interview with the BBC.
If you were to get the news that breast or another cancer was detected, The University of Manchester in England offers some hope. They've made a breakthrough in understanding how cancer makes its way through the body. Speaking to England's Daily Mail, researcher Dr Chris Ward said, "Understanding how cancer cells spread is tremendously important for cancer research. It is the ability of tumors to invade other tissues and spread around the body that makes them so dangerous." It's hoped this information will help create a new generation of targeted drugs. "Potentially, our findings can be applied to the most common form of cancer, carcinoma, found in the breast, lung and gut for example, which makes up 80 to 90 per cent of all cancers."

A Fishy Ghost Tale
Snarfd.com reports that "a ten-year haunting mystery in Guangxi City, China, has been solved by two ghost-busting brothers and a crowbar."
Apparently a five story building in the Chinese city was dogged by tales of things that went bump in the night. The persistent spooks had driven the value of the building down to a bargain $6,500, a price the brothers couldn't resist. After taking possession the brothers set about investigating the nocturnal noises, which were loudest in a first story bathroom. When they pounded on the floor the ghostly noises ceased, so they took a crowbar to it to see what lay underneath.
They discovered an ancient septic tank, and as they held their breath something in the dark, pungent murk moved. The mystery ghouls turned out to be a pair of 10 Lb catfish, and their eight offspring. The elder fish had jumped down the toilet several years ago, making a break for freedom, when the building previous building owner brought them into the bathroom in a bucket to clean them.
Seems the catfish were most active during the wee hours, and their thrashing was amplified throughout the building via its network of plumbing pipes. With the "ghosts" gone, the brothers' building is now worth a cool $135,000.00. Not a bad return for an evening's ghostbusting!

Iguana Facts
It was so cold in South Florida recently that iguanas fell from the trees.
The cold-blooded reptiles go into a deep sleep when the temperature falls into the 40s Fahrenheit (5 to 10 degrees Celsius). Their bodies turn gray, and they lose their grip, experts say.
Iguana Facts:
The word "Iguana" is derived from a Spanish form of the original Taino name for the species "Iwana".
Iguanas are able to hold their breath for up to 30 minutes.
They will often jump from tree to water using their powerful tail for swimming to escape. They are also able to leap down 40-50 feet without injury.
To attract a mate, mature males may turn orange during breeding season.
Iguanas store large amounts of fat in their lower jaw and neck area in order to survive times of famine. The pouch at the base of their neck is called a dewlap, and is used in display.
Their tail has weakened vertebrae so the iguana can break free and escape if caught by the tail. Iguanas are also able to whip their tail in defense, leaving behind a stinging welt or worse.
Many of us think lizards live only in deserts, yet the marine iguanas of the Galápagos Islands (off the coast of Ecuador) are excellent swimmers.
Some iguanas enjoy living in trees, such as the green iguanas of Central and South America. Because they are farmed for food there, these iguanas are called gallina de palo, or ?chicken of the tree.?
A male iguana's long, erect spines and extended dewlap, which make his head appear larger, are features that attract females. Battered and chewed spines indicate a male with a low position in the mating hierarchy.
Iguana is a genus of lizard native to tropical areas of Central and South America and the Caribbean first described by Austrian naturalist Josephus Nicolaus Laurenti in his book Specimen Medicum, Exhibens Synopsin Reptilium Emendatam cum Experimentis circa Venena in 1768. The genus iguana includes two species: the Green Iguana and the Lesser Antillean Iguana.
Marine iguanas sneeze frequently to expel salt from glands near their nose. The salt often lands on their heads, giving them a distinctive white wig.
Green, or common, iguanas are among the largest lizards in the Americas, averaging around 6.5 feet (2 meters) in length and weighing about 11 pounds (5 kilograms).
They are also among the most popular reptile pets in the United States, despite being quite difficult to care for properly. In fact, most captive iguanas die within the first year, and many are either turned loose by their owners or given to reptile rescue groups.
Their appearance, behavior, and endangered status vary from species to species.
In Central America, where iguana meat is frequently consumed, iguanas are referred to as "bamboo chicken" or "chicken of the trees."

Caterpillar Facts
The chemical con trick used by Alcon blue butterfly larvae to get ants to take care of them has been detailed by scientists working in Denmark.
Caterpillars grow through a series of moults; each intermediate stage is called an instar.
Caterpillars have 4,000 muscles (compare humans, with 629).
In some places, the number of caterpillars feeding on plants is so large that you can actually hear them munching
Some Arctic moths may spend 14 years as caterpillars, only active a few weeks each summer.
Some caterpillars eat as much as 27,000 times their body weight to support their lives as flying insects.
Most caterpillars may have 12 eyes, but they are primitive and can do little more than sense light and dark.
The caterpillar fungus is a traditional medicine that has been widely used as a tonic and/or medicine by the Chinese for hundreds of years
The use of this fungus was relatively unknown in this country until it was credited for the success of Chinese women athletes at the National Games in Beijing, in 1993. Three Chinese track runners set new world records during the Games. Their coach, Ma Zunren, attributed the runner?s success to due to a stress-relieving tonic prepared from the caterpillar fungus
Butterflies and moths start out as eggs. These hatch into caterpillars, which go through a pupa or metamorphosis stage and then evolve into the winged version. The cycle can take as little as 3 weeks in the tropics and many months in colder climes. Cold climate species can hibernate for as long as 9 months.
A caterpillar has a head and 13 body segments. There are only three pairs of real legs and five pairs of sucker-like prolegs or false legs at the back, with hooks for grabbing. It breathes through small holes on the segments.
Many caterpillars can produce silk, which they can use to avoid predators (by hanging from branches) and which they use for protection (a cocoon).
The Zebra caterpillar becomes poisonous by eating poisonous foods and has sharp spines, while the butterfly smells very bad. The Puss moth caterpillar spits acid on predators.
Caterpillars have been called "eating machines", and eat leaves voraciously
Most species shed their skins four or five times as their bodies grow larger, and they eventually pupate into an adult form.
Most caterpillars are solely herbivorous. Some are cannibals, and others prey on caterpillars of other species

Is mankind destined to be slaves?
Does an analysis of man's DNA indicate external manipulation in our ancient past? If so by whom, and for what purpose? Did we suddenly appear 250,000 years ago and has some of our DNA actually been deactivated to make us less superior? Why have humankind and it's gods always been obsessed with gold since it is a soft metal with little use in crafting hard tools? Can information emerging from Sumerian tablets that pre date the Bible by 3,000 years answer these questions?
Author Michael Tellinger will be our guest on Dark Matter and discuss his book: Slave Species of God and explain how new discoveries in genetic engineering parallel information from ancient archaeological finds including the amazing Sumerian texts.
