Jon Stewart Takes on Media for Overreacting to New Yorker Cover: "It's Just a F**...
Once again Stewart is the media's voice of reason.
"It's a trifle, it's nothing," Stewart said. "There's so many other things to talk about: Iraq, the collapse of some of our most prestigious financial institutions...right?" he continued, before showing a montage of the media firestorm over the cover.
Stewart also took the Obama camp to task for calling the cartoon "tasteless and offensive":
"Really? You know what your response should've been? It's very easy here, let me put the statement out for you: Barack Obama is in no way upset about the cartoon that depicts him as a Muslim extremist. Because you know who gets upset about cartoons? Muslim extremists! Of which Barack Obama is not. It's just a fucking cartoon!"

The Stork: It’s a Bird of War!!
"The Stork" is an animated short-film created by Nina Paley. "The Stork" starts out as a pleasant little children's cartoon, but before long it turns into something very sardonic and sinister, closer to "Apocalypse Now."
It's a decidedly provocative, but at the same time very funny, look at the perils of population explosion. When Paley first began work on this film, she predicted that it would provoke a lot of anger, “be extremely unpopular, and possibly end my animation career.”
Nevertheless, "The Stork" ended up playing at The Sundance Film Festival and numerous other festivals, winning awards all along the way.

BHUTTO: Cartoon by Michael Ramirez
Today's editorial cartoon by Michael Ramirez is a play on both the Bhutto assassination and the San Francisco Zoo tiger attack that killed one man and put two brothers in the hospital.
When I first saw this in print this morning in the New York Post, it was in black-n-white and I missed the lettering in the tiger's stripes. Meanwhile, I am sure that Ramirez hadn't noted the South Asian connection to the tiger story. It isn't a Bengal tiger, but those brothers, it turns out, are desi.
