People Under The Stairs Fun DMC!!!!
An underground hip-hop group(in the style of Tribe or Pharcyde) is about to release their sixth cd Fun DMC Sept. 30th. Hailing from sunny Los Angeles, Thes One and Double K have been making sunshine coast hip hop since the 90's. Thes One makes the most amazing beats out of the simplest loops, and Double K flows like water. Never ones to be pigeon holed, they'll flip roles at the drop of a dime (my favorite being "Time to Rock Our Shit"). Truth is, they are both just awesome at what they do. Two Hand Band
An MPC, or Music Production Center, was THE tool for hip hop artists in the studio in the 1980s. It fell out of fashion for a while, but now, it's back. The MPC has moved from the studio to the stage and all kinds of performers, from rockers to rappers to classicly trained musicians, are utilizing its beat making abilities. One MC will take us through the MPC transformation, as we see, hear and talk to different kind of musicians, and even non-musicians, who are making this technology the oldest newest trend in music making. David Byrne and Brian Eno Working Together Again
Almost three decades since Brian Eno and David Byrne worked together on Talking Heads records, and 27 years after the original release of their seminal sample-based album My Life in the Bush of Ghosts, the pair are collaborating together again.
Byrne expounded upon the new collaboration with Eno to the New York Daily News (via the Daily Swarm): "Brian had written a lot of music but needed some words, which I know how to do. What's it sound like? Electronic gospel. That's all I'm saying."
The Daily Swarm reports that the Byrne/Eno album will come out via Nonesuch before the end of 2008. Also, a joint U.S. tour with a setlist of "at least 40% Eno-era Talking Heads material" is in the works. Almost three decades since Brian Eno and David Byrne worked together on Talking Heads records, and 27 years after the original release... more -

More Girl Talk on the way
There's a new Girl Talk album coming out soon, apparently just as sample-rich and meticulously-constructed as the last one. I am so impressed with the way Girl Talk's label is simultaneously totally illicit and kinda business-y -- you can't buy this stuff on iTunes, but you can get a $39 bundle at illegalart.net! Piracy Fuels Brazil's Tecnobrega Scene
Belem is also home to one of Brazil's most thriving pop scenes: tecnobrega, a musical movement that's expanding exponentially thanks to musicians and producers who see copying as a marketing tool rather than intellectual property theft. Remixing the remix
Girl Talk (who is actually one man) is one of the most prolific mashup artists out there today, and is a strong proponent of open source culture. During his performance at the Montreal Jazz Fest on June 30, 2007, he takes his show out of the auditorium and into the streets or at least the parking lot.
