Rotten by nature? Sex Pistols' John Lydon accused of racist attack on Bloc Party s...
Sex Pistols singer John Lydon has been accused of involvement in a violent racist attack on a black musician.
The 52-year-old, who made his name as Johnny Rotten 30 years ago, is alleged to have abused Bloc Party singer Kele Okereke.
His entourage is then said to have beaten Mr Okereke, leaving him with 'severe facial bruising' and cuts to his face and body.
Mr Okereke said he was a fan of the punk singer and claimed he had simply approached him to ask if he would consider reforming his former band Public Image Ltd.
In a statement, he said Lydon 'became intimidating and aggressive'.
It is alleged that one of Lydon's entourage told him 'Your problem is your black attitude' before three more set upon him, punching him in the face and head.
The alleged attack at the Summercase Festival in Barcelona was broken up by security guards.
Lydon had been performing with the Sex Pistols, but other members of the band were not present at the incident.
Lydon today dismissed Mr Okereke's claims. He added: 'I feel very sorry for a man that needs to lie about what was a perfect evening.
'Grow up and learn to be a true man. When you have achieved as much as I have, come back and talk to me.'
Lydon added that he had been performing at a multiracial festival in front of audiences 'of all creeds and colours'.
Mr Okereke reported the alleged incident to Spanish police and has given a statement to British detectives.
He said: 'It's not an issue of the physical assault, even though it was an unprovoked attack, it is the fact that race was brought into the matter so readily.
'Someone as respected and intelligent as Lydon should know better than to bring race into the equation, or socialise with and encourage those who hold such narrow-minded attitudes.
'I am disappointed that someone I held with such high regard turns out to be such a bigot.'
Lydon appears to have lost none of his bad boy rancour since the Sex Pistols seventies heyday.
The band reformed last year and are now made up of Lydon, Steve Jones, Paul Cook and Glen Matlock.
Most recently Lydon left rising star Duffy in tears after a furious spat at the Mojo Awards.
It is understood the Welsh songstress attempted to hug and greet the ageing rocker but he shrugged her off by swinging his arm, inadvertently knocking her off balance before launching into a four letter tirade at her.
And in June an American TV assistant Roxane Davis filed for damages against him. She alleged he made her 'fear for her life' after flying into a rage.
In court papers, she claimed that the star went berserk and hit her in the face, before screaming at her. Sex Pistols singer John Lydon has been accused of involvement in a violent racist attack on a black musician. ... more -

Last.fm pays musicians amid calls to address past "illegal use"
The London-based internet streaming site is facing calls from the Merlin organisation to tackle the issue of its previous use of songs. Last.fm has just launched its artist royalty program, whereby both artists and labels take a cut of the site's revenue, but the 'virtual fifth major' Merlin, a collective representing 12,000 indie labels, has insisted this neglects to address 'past illegal use'.
Should Merlin and the artists it stands for let this one slide and write it off as an inevitable byproduct of internet evolution? Or is it only fair that artists should be paid for use of their songs in the past? Favorite Warped Tour Year
Which year was your favorite? Personally I think it gets worse and worse every year. It’s become more of a place where kids go just to go rather than somewhere where music enthusiasts can enjoy their favorite bands. I understand that to put what’s more popular and mainstream on the tour it makes more money and brings in more people, but the tour has drifted apart too much from what it originally started as and what it started for. Although I do believe the line ups need some alterations, I still do enjoy going every year and I enjoy meeting new people there that share commonground with me and my musical taste :) . My favorite year was 2006 here in Miami. The Unseen were amazing in 07 though!!! Which year was your favorite? Personally I think it gets worse and worse every year. Manowar - longest heavy metal concert set world record
The concert of the legendary kings of metal, Manowar, on the opening night of Kaliakra Rock Festival 2008 in the Bulgarian “rock capital” of Kavarna on July 5 lasted for five hours and one minute. The performance was the metal band's attempt to break the world record for the longest heavy metal concert, which they themselves set in 2007 at last year's edition of the festival.
Joey DeMaio, Eric Adams, Karl Logan and Scott Columbus pleased a crowd of 20 000 people with a playlist of more than 40 songs, a selection reflecting the band's history and all its studio albums.
Тhis year, the self-annointed "kings of metal" had promised Bulgarian fans to beat last year’s performance of three hours on stage, and had specially invited representatives of Guinness book of records to witness the unprecedented event.
Tell us why this is interesting

The Heavenly States Album Release Party of "DELAYER"
Another Planet Entertainment with support from Gen Art, invite you to The Heavenly States Album Release Party at The Independent. The evening's supporting acts include Citay and The Botticellis. The Heavenly States, who recently co-headlined last November's multi-media event, Ignition! has entered the studio and have emerged with a new LP entitled, Delayer. The Heavenly States are Ted Nesseth, Jeremy Gagon, Genevieve Gagon and Masanori Mark Christianson.
The band has toured the US, Australia, the UK, Egypt and were the first rock band to play Libya. Libyan-American producer, Jawal Nga (Chasing Daylight, Underdog, The Clearing, Forty Shades of Blue) is currently writing a screen play based on the band's tour in Libya.
For Delayer, The Heavenly States have decided to use their collective studio experience to produce the record themselves, unlike their earlier albums, which were produced by such big names as Jeff Saltzman (The Killers, Two Gallants), Paul Oldham (Will Oldham's older brother and main producer), and John Agnello (Dinosaur Jr., The Hold Steady). Delayer is thick with sonic layers and, as Rolling Stone says of their prior album, "delivers equal parts patchouli-soaked violin and Superchunk-worthy melodies." Look for Delayer to hit stores in February.

Indie Music: Those Who Market, Make It
The music industry of today looks almost nothing like the music industry of 20 years ago. There are a ton of reasons, most of them having to do with digital technology.
Today, if you're an indie musician, the resources for do it yourself marketing -- DIY -- are better than ever.
