UPDATE: '88 Dodgers Can't Help '08 Cubs After All
Well, well, well...it looks like all this talk about Jim Hendry looking to trade away some of the Cubbies honored tradition in exchange for 1988 Oral Hershiser was nothing more than a smokescreen used to distract his foes from getting in the way of his real objective, right-handed pitcher Rich Harden of the Oakland A's.
At approximately 5:30 Central Standard Time, the story hit the AP that the Cubs had mortgaged a part of their future, in exchange for Harden and his fellow A's teammate and and right-hander Chad Gaudin.
While this reporter strongly endorsed keeping the future and mortgaging the past, which included the possibility of giving up members of the Cubs storied past like 1990 Jerome Walton and 1994 Karl "Tuffy" Rhodes in exchange for the second half of Oral Hershiser's 1988 season, this is still a good move for the Cubs.

Jackie Robinson
April 15, 2007 marked the 60th Anniversary of the day Jackie Robinson took the field for first time as a Brooklyn Dodger, effectively breaking Major League Baseballs color barrier. It was the single greatest day in the history of American sports and an event that was certainly before its time. Jackies accomplishments on and off the field changed the landscape of sports forever and brought the issue of segregation to every city he played in. Fans, players and organizations around the country paid tribute last Sunday to a true American hero. Dodgers Pick up Kuroda
Go big blue! This guy is a perfect addition to the already solid Dod lineup.

Andruw Jones is going to be a Dodger
Power hitting is exactly what the Dodgers needed in this offseason and that is exactly what they got. Oh and a 100-time gold gloving center-fielder. So now the line-up reads something like this.
1. Furcal
2. Pierre
3. Russel Martin
4. Andruw Jones
5. Jeff Kent
6. Nomar
7. Loney
8. Eithier
9. Pitcher
Speed and power is stocked pretty deep on this line-up. Is this once again the best line-up in the West? I think the answer is yes. Power hitting is exactly what the Dodgers needed in this offseason and that is exactly what they got. Oh and a 100-time gold gloving c... more -
Torre Brings Friends Mattingly & Bowa
First off, this old-time Brooklyn Dodger fan looks damn good in the best shade of Blue. Second, Torre is bringing Don Mattingly and Larry Bowa with him to Los Angeles to help him coach the team to a now likely World Championship. Torre said, "The opportunity to manage the Los Angeles Dodgers, this is one of a handful of organizations you automatically say 'yes' to," Talk about bringing back the tradition of winning! Dodger fans have to be EXTREMELY excited about what this means for the team. Torre didn't come over to loose and it is becoming more and more clear that McCourt (owner), Colletti (GM), and now Torre/Mattingly/Bowa are in it to win it. If the Dodgers can make a few significant moves in the offseason (i like re-signing the Seanz aka The Killer Tomato aka Olmedo Seanz) they will once again be legit contenders before Opening Day. There's a feeling and buzz that is starting and if this momentum continues there is no telling what this team could do. Torre to Manage the Dodgers
The Brooklyn born kid should come back home to our boys in blue. He is a winner and will bring great things to LA.

A-Rod's Agent Votes for Free Agency
What a shocker - Scott Boras wants A-Rod to opt-out of his current deal that pays him $25M a season in order to get a longer deal that could net him possibly $30M per. Insane.
Since Boras feels that Rodriguez's looming free agency is more valuable than any other player's, he will undoubtedly recommend that Rodriguez, 32, forgo the potential $91 million left on his deal. Boras would not estimate what Rodriguez could make on the open market, but it is believed that Boras could seek a 10-year contract for $300 million for his client.
Where's he going? My guess is Angels, Dodgers or Cubbies. I can see him wearing the Angels red and forming a nasty 1-2 with Vladdy for a long time. What a shocker - Scott Boras wants A-Rod to opt-out of his current deal that pays him $25M a season in order to get a longer deal that... more -

If someone can find the video of this, that would be awesome... He sure is portly, but can he save the Dodgers?

Barry: Lord of the Dance
Since the Giants are in LA to play the Dodgers I figured I'd post this great article from today's LA Times reminiscing about 1997 - Barry's famous (or infamous depending on your pov) pirouette after hitting a home run to propel the Giants to a division title over the Dodgers. After that game, the Dodgers wound up losing seven of their last 11 games, and Bonds finished September by giving the Giants nine homers, 19 RBIs and a final two-game lead for the West Division championship. Pujols angered at La Russa for All-Star benching
So yesterday I forecasted that this was the year for the National League to win the All-Star game. Obviously Tony La Russa didn't want that to happen. By benching Albert Pujols in the ninth inning he gave the National League a defeat on the worst terms imaginable. He may as well have picked the guy in the picture I used in this clipping. No pujols no all-star game and another year of waiting for the National League to find a manager that wants to win. All-Star Game. Why the National League will Win this year
"This is the year" The moniker of the Boston Red Sox faithful, who for so many years actually believed it was the truth. This year it is the year for the National League to win the damn All-Star game. Every year we loose to the Yankees/Red Sox filled team and give up home field advantage in the World Series. As a Dodger fan, whose team will likely end up in the World Series this game means something to me. I think it will be a combination of pitching (Peavy and Penny) and some timely hitting that will allow for the first NL win in years. Especially if the NL plays a little hit and run and not so much swing for the fences. The park is a pitchers park and I think we have the better pitchers. "This is the year" The moniker of the Boston Red Sox faithful, who for so many years actually believed it was the truth. This year it ... more
