Chocolates Printed With Calorie Counts
"If you are watching your caloric intake but want to indulge in an “informed” guilty pleasure, I have the perfect chocolate for you. “Rompicollo” by L’Agenzia per il Disegno e la Funzione is a tablet of chocolate whose portions come printed with calorie counts carved directly on the surface. The chocolate bar is divided into portions of different sizes with different calorie count.
This allows you to treat yourself to a bit of chocolate while keeping you aware. That way you’ll be able to monitor how long you’ll have to hit the treadmill for to make up for those excess calories."

Eat this chocolate, lose that weight
Nutritionists are reporting that new product Slimmer's Chocolate can help people lose weight, without actually going on a dreaded diet.
Clinical trials have shown that the chocolate - which contains artichoke, guarana, green tea and an emulsifier called lecithin - can help with weight loss, without any change to your lifestyle.
Nutritionist Henrietta Norton explains, "You can't take Slimmer's Chocolate and continue to eat four bags of crisps - you would not potentially lose weight by doing it that way. [But] if you had a healthy diet in the first place - and you were to take the Slimmer's Chocolate on top of that - then yes, I think you would see a reduction in weight even though you haven't necessarily changed your lifestyle."
Now, I happen to have tried this chocolate (although I sent most of it to a colleague to review, as I couldn't be trusted not to eat it all immediately) and it's actually pretty great tasting, though I can't vouch for its weight loss potential... And I wouldn't want to deal with it's post-weight-loss effects (i.e. putting on double what you've lost) either.
But is it all just a gimmick?
Surely regular exercise and a balanced diet (blah blah) are the key to a healthy weight? Can some magic chocolate be a legitimate part of that?

Inner Party System, Save the Music World with their chocolate single!
This is the story of how Inner Party System saved the music world:
In 1970 "antisocial" stereo was born with the introduction of Quadraphonic Sound. Only one lucky listener could hear the stereo properly if they sat in the correct "sweet spot". This resulted in the alienation of friends and families by stereophiles.
In 1979 Sony continued the antisocial stereo movement with the Walkman.
And alas, in 2001 Apple launched it's mission to place IPODs in the ears of every single man, woman, and child on the planet.
But now Inner Party System has made listening to music SOCIAL AGAIN. 100 lucky listeners in the UK can buy their latest single" Don't Stop", play it on a turn table (wicky wicky wicky), and afterwards split it into tiny pieces and eat it with their friends because it's milk chocolate. Witness the first bite here. A historic moment indeed.

DNA from half-eaten candy bar catches thief
Police say DNA found on a half-eaten candy bar helped them zero in on a robbery suspect in Arkansas.
Detective Jason Simpkins says Brian D. Bass' DNA matched the sample found on the bar left on the counter at Cato Animal Hospital during a January robbery. Bass was being held in jail Friday on $50,000 bond.
Bass was on probation after he served time on a firearms possession charge. Simpkins said the state had his DNA on file.
Police say Bass is facing felony commercial burglary and theft charges. The public defender's office says Bass, 39, doesn't have an attorney yet. Police say DNA found on a half-eaten candy bar helped them zero in on a robbery suspect in Arkansas. ... more -

The upside of being Mischa Barton: a little subcutaneous bottom fat may be good fo...
Could it be that a little of what you fancy really does you good? I can't help noticing the connection between two recent health stories in the news: one about the positive effects of chocolate, the other about the health benefits of being bootylicious.
The first report talks about how a little fat on your booty actually may be good for you. A study undertaken by the Harvard Medical School and published in the Cell Metabolism medical journal (catchy title) found that there are good and bad types of fat. And while abdominal visceral fat, which wraps itself around organs, raised the risk of poor health, subcutaneous fat, which is found under the skin particularly around the buttocks, appeared to boost metabolism and help regulate the body's insulin levels, and may protect against type 2 diabetes. (By the looks of recent paparazzi photos, at least that's one thing Mischa Barton won't have to worry about).
This study follows hot on the heels of research conducted by a team from the University of East Anglia in England which found that eating chocolate can reduce health risks in postmenopausal women with type 2 diabetes. The scientists involved in this study are now testing the theory that the flavonoid compounds found in chocolate may provide protection against cardiovascular disease (it should be noted that the chocolate researchers used was especially formulated with raised evels of flavonoids).
Of course, as Mischa Barton can tell you, every square of chocolate a girl eats goes straight to her behind, so we're happy to hear there's an upside to your jeans being a little tight around the rear end (though muffin-top is not a good sign, since that's the wrong kind of fat). I guess next time a woman asks that leading question 'does my bum look big in this?' the correct response may be a resounding, heart-healthy, diabetes aware, 'yes.'

Women give out their email passwords for chocolate
Want to worm your way into a woman’s email inbox? It’s easy, just buy her a bar of chocolate and the password’s all yours. Or so claim security analysts Infosecurity Europe, who polled 576 office workers outside Liverpool Street Station in London, as part of their Information Security Awareness week which starts on the 21st April.
According to the survey, 45 per cent of women were quite happy to give strangers, posing as market researchers, their email password, in return for a chocolate bar, as opposed to only 10 per cent of men. Hmmm…Wonder what the results would have been if they’d offered beer?
The unsuspecting workers were asked to fill out a survey which was actually nothing more than a cover for social engineering research to prove that gullible (and snack crazed) people would give out all kinds of information for chocolaty treats.
Despite the fact that many people still fell for the trick, Infosecurity reckons that on the whole, people did a lot better than last year, when they performed the same sort of test. In 2007 a whopping 64 per cent of people were prepared to give away their passwords for a chocolate bar, but this year only 21 per cent succumbed to the temptation. Maybe this year’s crowd are dieting.

Dark May Be King, but Milk Chocolate Makes a Move
Milk chocolate is making a come back.
Until recently, midnight-black, bittersweet bars with punishing percentages of cacao were, like coffee and wine, on a quest for brooding intensity. Milk chocolate was left behind, dismissed as child’s play, an indulgence in sweetness and nostalgia.
Now, some chocolatiers are fighting back, with expensive, suave “dark milk” chocolates that reinvent milk chocolate by increasing its cacao content, reducing its sweetness and carefully refining it to give it the snap and velvet of dark.
