Assassination Plot On Barack Obama?
A group of individuals who made vague threats about assassinating presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama posed no threat to the Illinois Senator, US officials say.
The three men in question were high at the time of their arrest on gun and drug charges but would have been unable to carry out any attack, Colorado federal prosecutor Troy Eid says. Any attempts to kill Obama equaled little more than the “racist ramblings of three meth heads.”
During the arrest of the three men, one suspect attempted to escape by jumping from the sixth floor of a Denver hotel, breaking his ankle in the process.

Plan to murder Barack Obama - 4 arrested
Four men who were reportedly planning to murder US Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama were arrested in Denver on Monday.
According to local Denver television broadcaster CBS34, the men told officials that they wanted “to shoot Obama with a gun from a specified point”.
The attack was planned for Thursday, the last day of the Democratic National Convention which is being held in the city - when Obama’s Presidential candidacy will be made official.
One suspect, Tharin Gartrell (28), was arrested on Sunday after police found two sniper rifles in his rented pick-up truck.
As he was taken into custody, another suspect, Nathan Johnson (32), told police that he wanted to kill Barack Obama.

Possible plot on Obama?
Denver authorities said last night that a number of arrests had been made of individuals in connection with firearms offences in the city which is hosting the Democratic National Convention.
However they refused to immediately confirm local media reports that linked the arrests to a possible attempt on the life of the Barack Obama who is due to make his key address to the conference on Thursday.
Local TV station KCNC-TV reported that four people had been picked up by police following a traffic stop in the Denver suburb of Aurora. That arrest, which took place on Sunday morning, saw a 28-year-old man taken into custody after he was spotted driving erratically in a rented pickup truck.
The TV station, quoting police sources, said that two high-powered rifles with scopes, walkie talkies, camouflage clothing, driving licences and the drug methamphetamine were found in the truck. Police then traced him back to a local hotel, The Cherry Tree, which led to further arrests, including a man injured while jumping out of a window in order to evade arrest. The wounded man was believed to have ties to white supremacist organisations and was wearing a ring with a swastika, the station said. KCNC-TV said that the men had told police that they intended to kill Obama.
The Denver Post newspaper said that only two men had been arrested, but reported that a news conference was being scheduled for tomorrow afternoon to discuss the case. It reported that authorities were more sceptical of any organised plot to kill Obama.
US officials also told the Associated Press that it was too premature to say if there was any direct threat to Obama. 'It's premature to say that it was a valid threat or that these folks have the ability to carry it out,' an unnamed US government official told the Associated Press. 'It could also turn out that these were nothing but a bunch of knuckleheads, meth heads,' the official added.
Obama, who is seeking to become America's first black president, has been the subject of intense security, unusual even for a presidential candidate. Though specifics have been rare, the Secret Service has been monitoring the activities of white supremacist groups especially on the internet. "I'll kill Obama if he's elected President!"
A man was arrested after allegedly threatening US presidential candidate Barack Obama's life, claiming: "If he gets elected I'll kill him myself." Raymond Hunter Geisel (22) has been taken into custody by the Secret Service and is being held without bail, according to reports in the US media. The supposed death threats were made during a training session for bail bondsmen in late July.
Even after his arrest, Geisel couldn't keep his mouth shut, supposedly telling a Secret Service agent that if he wanted to kill Senator Obama, he "simply would shoot him with a sniper rifle". Later, he said he was just joking.

FBI: ex-president Ford advised of Warren Commission members’ doubts on JFK murder
Former President Ford secretly advised the FBI that two of his fellow members on the Warren Commission doubted the FBI’s conclusion that John F. Kennedy was shot from the sixth floor of the Texas Book Depository in Dallas, according to newly released records from Ford’s FBI files.
Ford, still a congressman at the time, also told a senior FBI official about internal panel disputes over hiring staff, Chief Justice Earl Warren’s timetable for completing the final report on the assassination and what panel members said about the FBI.
In turn, Assistant FBI Director Cartha “Deke” DeLoach confidentially advised Ford of FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover’s position on panel disputes; discussed where leaks were coming from; and, with Hoover’s personal approval, loaned him a bureau briefcase with a lock so he could securely take the FBI report on the 1963 assassination with him on a ski trip.
The new details were included in 500 pages of the FBI’s large file on Ford, released in part this past week in response to requests under the Freedom of Information Act that The Associated Press and others made on the day Ford died in December 2006. The FBI intends to release additional documents about Ford in several batches, all with parts censored for law enforcement and privacy reasons. Top Syria official 'assassinated'
A senior military official close to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has been assassinated, according to Arab media reports.
The official, identified as Brig Gen Mohammed Suleiman, was shot dead on Friday night at a beach resort near the port city of Tartus, the reports say.
The Free Syria website, which opposes the Syrian government, described him as President Assad's top security adviser. Pan-Arab newspapers al-Hayat and Asharq al-Awsat say Mr Suleiman had responsibility for sensitive security issues.
Mr Suleiman was also reported to serve as Syria's liaison officer to Hezbollah - a powerful political and military organisation of Shia Muslims in Lebanon.
Damascus has so far refused to comment on the alleged shooting. A senior military official close to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has been assassinated, according to Arab media reports. ... more -
Key Benazir Bhutto assassination witness shot dead

The bodyguard of Benazir Bhutto, who was to be a key witness in an investigation into her assassination, has been shot dead.
Khalid Shahenshah, who was the former Pakistan prime minister's security chief at the time of her assassination, was killed in a drive-by shooting as he left his house in the southern port city of Karachi on Tuesday, police said.
Mr Shahenshah, 45, was riding in Mrs Bhutto's bullet-proof car when she was killed in a suicide attack in the northern city of Rawalpindi on December 27.
He was expected to be called to give evidence at a United Nations probe into her death.
"He was a key witness in the case and was also interviewed by the Scotland Yard experts who came to Pakistan to investigate her killing," said Waqar Mehdi, the junior information minister of Sindh province.
"There is a possibility that his killing could be linked to his status as a witness, although investigations are still underway."
A team of Scotland Yard detectives concluded in February that Mrs Bhutto was killed by a suicide bomb and not by gunfire, backing the previous Pakistani government's claim the attack was masterminded by Baitullah Mehsud, Pakistan's top Taliban commander.
But the UN earlier this month agreed to set up an independent panel to investigate her slaying, following a request by Pakistan's new government.
