The 4th International Video Journalism Awards" is calling for entries!
The Video Journalism Awards is looking for non-fiction videos from

A Thousand Wrestlers and Two Tons of Olive Oil
Every summer for the last 650 years, Turkish men have gathered to see who was the strongest, fastest and slickest of them all. It's called Kirkpinar, and it's the biggest oil wrestling competition in the world.
The well-muscled men face off in the middle of a grassy field, as a crowd of thousands looks on eagerly. Slowly, methodically, they cover their chests and legs with olive oil -- first with the right hand, then with the left. Then they take turns oiling each others' backs.
Then the fun begins: Turkey's annual Kirkpinar festival, the highlight of the Turkish sporting calendar, is a three-day orgy of oil wrestling. Known as "yagli gures" (pronounced "yaw-luh gresh"), the slippery sport is considered by some to be the Turkish national game.

Kangaroo Stopped In Its Tracks
Plans for an online TV/Video on demand service from all three UK terrestrial networks looked to be scuppered yesterday.
Kangaroo, as the project was to be known, aimed to collect up to 10,000 hours of classic programmes from BBC, ITV and Channel 4 and make them available online. However, an inquiry in to how compatible this would be with UK competition laws appears to have put the project on ice indefinitely. Time-Warner customers will have to pay for bandwidth
"This Thursday, new cable Internet customers in Beaumont, Texas will no longer have unmetered Internet bandwidth - they’re guinea pigs in a new pricing scheme being pushed by Time-Warner that will give users between 5 and 40 gigabytes in total monthly data usage (uploads and downloads combined). Data usage over that amount will be billed at $1 per gigabyte. Competitor Comcast is also considering metered bandwidth.
"The goal is to limit average data usage, allowing Time-Warner to get more customers into their existing fiber infrastructure. Since there is little or no competition for Internet connectivity, they don’t have to worry so much about losing customers."

Carbonrally: climate change community focused on fun, social, and competitive chal...
"Let’s face it, even when we recycle, we’re nagged by a feeling that our actions, so small in the scheme of things, will do little to curb global warming. Enter the website Carbonrally, which aims to inject some competition into CO2 reduction. The site hosts weekly “challenges”—like replacing three household light bulbs with CFLs or topping off your tires—in which teams or individuals vie for prizes and “greener-than-thou” bragging rights. Two departments at Google recently battled in a Carbonrally face-off, while a high school in New Jersey started a Gossip Girl-esque commentary on the competition. The site’s founder, Jason Karas, says the point is to get whole communities involved, by whatever means necessary: “For some it’s getting together to support a cause. For others, it’s a race".”

Win a divorce
An Australian lads' mag is running a competition with a free divorce as the prize.
The competition will allow one disgruntled husband to "unleash themselves back to bachelor hood".
Zoo Weekly's £5,000 divorce package includes lawyers fees, court costs - and a divorce party with pin-up girls.
There is also a three-tiered divorce cake, a cleaner for two months, a plasma TV, Playstation 3 and a year's subscription to Zoo.
Zoo editor Paul Merrill said the divorce competition was the perfect way for a reader to "win back their freedom".
"If a marriage fails it's sad, but what's sadder is being stuck under the same roof as a woman who's just slept with your best mate," said Mr Merrill.
"Our lucky winner will get to escape and start a new whole new life. We'll help him at every stage - from buying a new plasma screen and throwing him a party, to finding him a new girlfriend."
The give away follows Zoo's previous offer of a free breast enhancement for a reader's girlfriend.
Girls were urged to send in snaps of their cleavage for readers to decide who needed the surgical enhancement the most.
There were thousands of entries received for what the magazine described as "the most romantic gift of all".
