Knitting a Dr. Who scarf? No way, says the BBC.
The BBC has demanded that fans take down knitting patterns based on the show Dr. Who. The patterns--which were available for free--were based on characters from the show.
The BBC is understandably concerned about copyright violations, but this seems a bit extreme. No money was being made from these patterns, and all this is doing is alienating fans who want to knit an adipose of their very own. Competitive Knitting?
Signs that knitters are taking over: The front page of the Wall Street Journal has an article on Sock Wars (an internet based competitive knitting game--yes, you read that correctly--based on the game Assassin).
While I'm still not sure why it made the front page of the WSJ, it's a pretty interesting article on the ways that an increasingly large community of knitters are connecting through the internet.
