    • Apple Macbook Touch - Rumours of Gadget To Hit Stores This October!

There have been rumours flying that a MacBook touch could be hitting the market as early as October 2008. Allegedly these rumours are substantiated too, as they came from a MacDaily News source that broke the wireless iTunes story early as well. • Pen-enabled Mac Modbook

The one and only pen-enabled tablet Mac, the Modbook, allows users to draw and write directly on the 13.3-in. diagonal LCD screen. The unit’s condensed form factor and integrated pen-based user experience is a real joy in terms of flexibility and control. And it’s fast!

This product seamlessly integrates an Apple MacBook computer, an advanced Wacom Penabled digitizer display, and Axiotron’s own hardware and software technology. It’s the only tablet Mac on the market. Since it runs on the Mac OS X Leopard platform, any application that runs on OS X like Corel Painter and Adobe Photoshop will run on this unit.

All the features of an Apple MacBook are in the Modbook. Although it does not come with a keyboard or mouse for inputs, these can be connected via a pair of USB ports or Bluetooth. Text can also be entered through Axiotron’s Quickclicks software keyboard.

With a weight of 5.5 lbs, this product is a bit heavy, but when you try out all its features and capabilities, you’ll soon forget about the heft. It has the same features as an Apple MacBook, Leopard’s built-in Inkwell handwriting recognition, the same processing-power and memory-storage capability, a built-in iSight camera, a 24x DVD Combo drive or an 8x DVD Superdrive, depending on the model, and built-in GPS capability.

The most recent configurations include 2.1-GHz or 2.4-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processors and 120-Gbytes or 160-Gbytes of hard-disk memory, respectively, which makes this product twice as fast and powerful as any slate-type tablet PC on the market. This tablet Mac is super sensitive with its unparalleled 512 levels of pen pressure sensitivity.

And its price is competitive. It is available in the U.S. and Canada exclusively through Axion authorized resellers, at a price of $2290 and $2499 (Canadian dollars), respectively.

Software engineer Satoshi Nakajima, the lead architect of Microsoft’s Windows 95, picked up a Mac for the first time two years ago.

He was so impressed, he says he’ll never touch a PC again.

Satoshi loves Apple products so much, he started a company in April, Big Canvas, to develop for Apple’s iPhone platform full-time.

“We have chosen iPhone as the platform to release our first product (for) several reasons,” explains his company’s website. “We love Apple products… You need love to be creative.”

    • Mobilme, Apple new crap!

Apple launch its me.com, and guess what, total failure
Worst is, you can't even complain, their support is so badly done its unbelievable.

Can not even ask a question, like why your site is not allowing flock user?
as they web brewser is listed, not listing Flocks, and you can send the question without selecting!
Then, the promised 48 hours answer came a week after and as you can read, pretty useless
      "Dear Customer,
We apologize that it took a little while to respond to you. As a result of the
overwhelming interest in MobileMe, the MobileMe Support team is receiving
higher volumes of email than normal. "
i believe the, overwhelming interest in MobileMe, means huge amount of complains!

All to add some service for the already, out of date and flawn, Ipod, thanks but I don't want them and now i am paying (still the last paying email account in the world!) for service I don't want and that complicate my life as i need now two browser, one for the mail, one for the rest of the www!

I have been using Mac from 89 but I am more and more disapointed by their unstopable growing greeds!

A not so any more Mac lover

    • Add Laptop Location Tracking Security, for Free

A new open source project allows computer users to add surreptitious location tracking to their systems. Windows, Mac and Linux versions are available.

Adeona, from researchers at the University of Washington and the University of California, San Diego, anonymously sends data to servers on a free storage system called OpenDHT. The data, which is encrypted, includes IP addresses, information about neighboring routers, and so forth. If your notebook ever gets stolen you can log into the system from another computer, access the data and notify authorities with it. Working with ISPs they should be able to locate it. The Mac version also uses a freeware program called isightcapture to take a picture of whoever is using the system.

Commercial versions of such products, such as CompuTrace's LoJack for Laptops, have been available for a long time. Typically they also offer a remote wiping function, which would seem to be a major advantage, at least for businesses.

It's not clear whether the location tracking information in the commercial products is any different from this free version. The ultimate version would use GPS hardware, but this is not typically included in notebook computers. Perhaps it should be.

    • Me.com Email Addresses Now Working [For Some]

If you are a .Mac subscriber, Apple appears to have activated the corresponding @me.com email addresses. If your email address was username@mac.com previously, you can now use username@me.com and emails should arrive in your .Mac mailbox. In the near future, Apple will be migrating all the email services over to Me.com, but users will be able to keep their @mac.com email addresses:
Yes. In addition to your mac.com email address, you will also get an address at me.com with the same username when MobileMe is available. For example, if your current email is emily_parker@mac.com, you will get emily_parker@me.com. You can send from whichever address you choose. The choice is yours. You will still receive email sent to your mac.com address so you won’t miss any emails.

Apple has also published Frequently Asked Questions about the .Mac to MobileMe transition.

The @me.com transition is part of Apple's shift to MobileMe, a new web-based service that offers "desktop class" email, calendar and address book functionality. MobileMe is set to officially launch in early July.

Update: At least one user said theirs is not yet working, but it is working for several others. It may take some time for the changes to propagate.

    • Microsoft Delivers Long Awaited Mac Open XML Converters

Microsoft released a set of Open XML converters for Mac users Tuesday. The tool and update to Mac Office 2004 allows users to convert files created by the 2007 and 2008 versions of Word, Excel and Powerpoint.

The strength of Microsoft file formats is its dominance in the market. If you want your file to be opened by anyone, sending it in .doc, .xls or .ppt is a safe bet. When the company released Office 2007 for Windows and Office 2008 for Mac using its newly developed Open XML format by default, older versions of Office were left incompatible. The incompatibility was fixed late last year for 2003 Windows versions, but Mac Office users were left out in the cold.

Today’s update offers Mac Office 2004 users the ability to finally convert Open XML Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx) and Powerpoint (.pptx) files. The update is available by download or by Microsoft Office’s built-in AutoUpdate feature. The converters are also available as a stand-alone application for those who use other Office suites like NeoOffice.

With Microsoft’s converters and its recent ratification as an ISO standard, .docx, .xlsx and .pptx files are on their way to becoming the dominant transferable file format.

The converters also follow an announcement by MacBU’s Craig Eisler announcing Microsoft’s largest hiring spree to their Mac unit in history. It looks like the updates and the announcement herald Microsoft’s impending strategy to keep from losing customers to applications like OpenOffice, Google Docs and Zoho office suites which already have tools for converting Microsoft formats.

    • Apple addicts camp out for Sydney store opening

Call me an old fogey, but I just don't get the concept of queuing for a store opening. Apple is tonight opening it's first store in the southern hemisphere, in Sydney - my hometown. While it is an impressive building, and all it contains is awesome in terms of technological beauty and usability, queuing overnight to be the first in just doesn't make sense to me.

The first 2500 customers through the door receive a gift - not an iPod, a Macbook, or anything remotely electronic, in fact, but a t-shirt. Woooowwww!!!

Sorry, don't get. I'll wait till the crowds die down, and then pay a visit. The shop isn't likely to be moving anywhere soon.

    • Nvidia unveils GeForce GTX 200 graphics processors

Graphics chip maker Nvidia on Monday introduced its new family of GeForce GTX 200 graphics processors. The new processors are featured in PC graphics cards that will be available later this month starting at US$399.

Nvidia claims the GeForce GTX 200 processors provide up to 50 percent faster gaming performance over the GeForce 8800 Ultra GPU, which is even faster than the top-end Nvidia graphics card available as an add-on board for today's Mac Pro systems. The GPUs also support Scalable Link Interface (SLI), a technology that enables more than one Nvidia card to work together in the same computer in parallel; PureVideo HD, video decoding and post-processing technology; and Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA), which enables programmers to offload processor-intensive tasks to the Nvidia graphics chip and card.

Nvidia's newest GTX 200 series cards can help improve graphics and general processing performance. While no Mac-specific announcement has been made by Nvidia, the company uses a unified driver architecture across its product line. That enables the new Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) to work on the Mac if Apple decides it's worth the effort. As it stands now, Nvidia has announced that several of its manufacturing partners are creating boards based on the new design, including ASUS, a fabricator that Apple also uses for some of its manufacturing.

    • Gadgets Too Sexy for Your Pocket

Gadgets Too Sexy for Your Pocket
      By Mike Kobrin, Digital Trends

      LG Vu

A lookalike to LG's European-only Prada phone, the Vu has a 3-inch touchscreen with a virtual QWERTY keyboard, 3G (HSDPA) for fast Web browsing, a 2 megapixel camera, and stereo Bluetooth. The full-screen MediaFLO mobile TV and half-inch waistline are pretty sexy too.

      Samsung Instinct

The next potential iPhone-killer has a haptic-enabled touchscreen for tactile feedback, voice navigation, video recording, EVDO, GPS, and Sprint mobile TV, all crammed into a 1/2-inch frame. The device has so much going on, in fact, that you may not even notice it lacks WiFi. (Available soon.)

      Apple iPhone 3G

The second-gen iPhone packs a few welcome extras lacking in the original, like 3G (HSDPA) support, assisted-GPS, stereo Bluetooth, and a headphone jack that's flush with the casing. It still has the same silky-smooth touch interface and comes in 8GB or 16GB flavors — now in black or white (16GB only) — and now you can get new apps for it direct from Apple's new App Store. Best of all, the new models go for just $199 or $299 with service.

      SanDisk Sansa Fuze 8GB

This budget-friendly iPod nano alternative comes with up to 8GB of internal storage, and the microSD slot lets you expand on that. You can watch video on the 1.9-inch screen, but we're more jazzed about the music features of this 1/3-inch-thick player.

      Samsung yepp YP-P2 8GB

Bearing a superficial resemblance to the iPhone, the P2 is even smaller and has a 3-inch touchscreen, great battery life and up to 8GB of flash memory (16GB later this year). Built-in stereo Bluetooth lets you listen wirelessly or use the player as a surrogate handset for your cell phone.

      Archos 605 WiFi 160GB

The 605 WiFi may be a plus-size model, but there's plenty to drool about in this 802.11g-enabled mobile digital video recorder. The 160GB model is just .78 inches thick and has a 4.3-inch touchscreen, though you'll have to shell out extra dough to access the DVR, Web browsing and GPS features.

      Apple MacBook Air

Apple's ultra-thin notebook competes with the big boys, though the system's lack of an optical drive and high price keep its target market somewhat niche. The thinnest version (a manila envelope-fitting .16 inches!) runs off a 64GB solid-state drive and packs up to a 1.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 2GB of RAM.

      Plantronics Discovery 925

This is one of the best-looking and least bulky Bluetooth headsets out there, and it works reliably with very effective noise suppression. It even comes with a small case that has a built-in rechargeable battery so you can juice up the headset on the go.

      Klipsch Image

These in-ear headphones are billed as the world's smallest, but the sound quality they provide proves richer and fuller than the sort offered by larger competitors. The eartips are extremely comfortable, and the black and copper design screams high fashion, as, sadly, does the price tag too.

      Lenovo X300

Not to be outdone by Apple's MacBook Air, the Lenovo X300 is just about as thin, but packs everything in that the MacBook Air is missing. This included an optical drive, 64GB solid-state hard drive Verizon Wireless broadband card, fingerprint scanner and more. If only you can stomach the price tag.
