Latest Watchmen Trailer Looks Promising
Even many fans of the Watchmen graphic novel didn't want the movie in the hands of a big studio, the movie's trailer was a hit at this year's Comic-Con.
Watchmen, adapted from a graphic novel and starring Jackie Earle Haley and Matthew Goode, is one of the most anticipated releases of 2009. Warner Bros. made the film and plans to release it March 6, but 20th Century Fox has filed a suit claiming it has some rights to the project. As part of the litigation, Fox asked a judge to block the movie's release.
Few in the industry expect that to happen. But fans of the graphic novel aren't quietly waiting for the legal process to sort it out. They're taking on Fox, threatening to boycott the studio's future movies.

Warner 'sues over Puttar movie'

"Hari Puttar" vs Harry Potter in Lawsuit
NEW DELHI, India (Hollywood Reporter) - Warner Bros. has filed a lawsuit against Mumbai-based producer/distributor Mirchi Movies related to the title of its upcoming film "Hari Puttar -- A Comedy of Terrors," which Warners feels is a tad too similar to its franchise about a certain young wizard.
The case is being heard in the Bombay High Court and comes up for hearing Monday (August 25). "Hari Puttar," a comedy that centers on a 10-year-old Indian boy whose family moves to England, is slated for a September 12 release.
"We have recently commenced proceedings against parties involved in the production and distribution of a movie entitled 'Hari Puttar,"' London-based Warners spokeswoman Deborah Lincoln said. "Warner Bros. values and protects intellectual property rights. However, it is our policy not to discuss publicly the details of any ongoing litigation."
The Hari Puttar name began making the rounds here as a comic gag when the first "Harry Potter" film was released. Hari is a popular Indian name, and "puttar" means "son" in the Punjabi language.
"Since the case is sub-judice, we can't comment as of now," Mirchi Movies CEO Munish Purii said. "However, we registered the 'Hari Puttar' title in 2005, and it's unfortunate that Warner has chosen to file a case so close to our film's release. In my opinion, I don't think our title has any similarity or links with 'Harry Potter."'

Reintroducing Superman
Reportedly, Warner Bros. wants to "reboot" the Superman franchise. They're apparently unhappy with the reception Superman Returns received when it came out a couple summers ago.
Warner Bros. Pictures Group President Jeff Robinov told WSJ Superman Returns "didn't quite work as a film in the way that we wanted it to. ... It didn't position the character the way he needed to be positioned...Had Superman worked in 2006, we would have had a movie for Christmas of this year or 2009. ... But now the plan is just to reintroduce Superman without regard to a Batman and Superman movie at all."
The tone (as you'd expect) is going to be darker. Well, darker "to the extent that the characters allow it." But given the character's place as a cultural icon representing all that is good, true, pure and American, can Superman be dark?
I think it would be a good choice to reboot the story after the failure of Superman Returns. And as far as making it darker, I say "go ahead. you've got nothing to loose." I just hope they don't take it too far. What do you think? Reportedly, Warner Bros. wants to "reboot" the Superman franchise. They're apparently unhappy with the reception Superm... more -
Friends movie?
"Following in the high-heeled footsteps of "Sex and the City: The Movie" comes another film that's sure to make boyfriends around the world run for cover. Prepare thyself for "Friends: The Movie." Mwa ha ha!
That's right, kids. Rumor has it that there is renewed interest in bringing the six fabulously perky and quirky New Yorkers to the big screen. You can either thank or blame "Sex and the City" for this news. The success of that franchise's recent flick reportedly inspired the cast to bring their beloved sitcom back from the dead.
According to Current, Jennifer Aniston "is believed to have dragged her heels" on the project, but has since changed her mind. Filming should start within the next 18 months. Or will it? Another blog reports that Warner Bros. denied the "Friends" movie rumor, "and there's no confirmation from anyone around town that anything is even being considered."
So, is there hope for all the haters who thought they'd seen the last of Ross, Rachel, and that stupid monkey? Maybe, but remember: When it comes to rumors, they're often denied, but usually true. Sorry."

Pirate Bay Investigation Cop Hired By Warner Bros
A police officer, previously involved in the investigation of the Swedish file sharing site has been given a job with Warner Bros.
The hiring occurred several months after the initial inverstigation closed, BUT the same police officer is still scheduled to appear as a witness in the case.
Basically, from what I can gather, this could represent one huge conflict of interests and an attempt to pervert the course of justice. Heavy stuff. A police officer, previously involved in the investigation of the Swedish file sharing site has been given a job with Warner Bros. ... more -
Sanity prevails on Ledger death scene
Thankfully, the think tank at Warner Brothers has chosen not to alter the final cut of the new Batman film, including one scene that features the late Heath Ledger pretending to be dead inside a body bag.
Ledger, who was found dead in late-January in his New York apartment, plays The Joker in the movie, labelled The Dark Knight.
His performance is said to be amazing, yet many had worried certain scenes in the film might upset his more sensitive fans.
You would imagine Ledger himself would not have wanted anything in his portrayal to have been changed or omitted.

HD-DVD Death Rattle
Rumors just won't stop about the future of HD DVD. The Digital Bits is reporting that their "second to none" sources informed them that both Universal and Paramount are in the process of going blu.
But don't bother asking 'em, because the same contracts that prevent them from switching now, prevent them from confirming the rumor. In addition, sources tell The Digital Bits that while Paramount could make an announcement any day now, Universal's won't come until February -- at the earliest -- because "their contract period with the HD-DVD camp expires at the end of January." Warner Bros. may cut 1,000 jobs
As many as 1,000 employees on the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank could be laid off as a result of the writers strike, after Friday.
Apparently Warner Bros. distributed "legally mandated warning notices on November 12," 5 days after the WGA walkout began. The notices said that the "recipients could be subject to layoff after 60 days."

Warner Bros. to Only Sell Blu-Ray Discs
In a move that could tip the balance of power in a format war over the next-generation of DVDs, Time Warner Inc.'s Warner Bros. Entertainment said it plans to release high-definition movies exclusively in the Blu-ray format, in the process dealing a major blow to rival HD DVD.
The move means the rival HD DVD format, which is backed by Toshiba Corp., will be left with support from just two major studios: Universal Pictures and Viacom Inc.'s Paramount Pictures. The other major studios ? Warner Bros., Sony Corp., Walt Disney Co., News Corp.'s Twentieth Century Fox? are committed to Blu-ray exclusively.
