'Underpants' minister loses job
An Australian politician has had to resign after dancing in his underpants at a staff party.
Matt Brown, a state minister in New South Wales, admitted he had made a "mistake" and was "embarrassed".
He strongly denied local press reports of lewd conduct with a female staff member, who has also denied the allegations.
State Premier Nathan Rees said there had been too many reports of Mr Brown in his underwear to ignore.
Reports of the raucous party in Mr Brown's Parliament House office, surfacing in local newspapers, alleged the minister had danced in "very brief" underpants to techno music on a green couch.
The party occurred three months ago when Mr Brown was state housing minister, and was to celebrate the budget.
Initially Mr Brown said nothing untoward had happened at the party. But his boss, Premier Rees, was not so sure.
"I subsequently put it to former minister Brown late last night that there are too many reports of you in your underwear for me to ignore.
"He conceded he'd been in his underwear and that gave me no option but to demand his resignation," Mr Rees told Fairfax Radio Network.
Mr Brown then admitted conduct unbecoming to a minister, and resigned only three days after being sworn into office as minister for the police.
"I'm a human being and I made a mistake and I'm going to cop the consequences of that mistake," Mr Brown told reporters, without elaborating.

Obama underwear anyone?
Boxer shorts featuring a large image of the Barack Obama's face have gone on sale ahead of the presidential candidate’s acceptance speech at the Democratic convention.
The tight-fitting briefs are available in navy blue, royal bue and red and have “08” printed on the rear. Underwear designer Andrew Christian has promised to donate $1 to the Obama campaign for every $29 boxer short he sells.
Asked recently if the candidate might consider donning the underwear himself, Mr Obama’s spokesman reacted with mock horror. “No,” he told the New York Daily News newspaper. “That would be really weird”.
Mr Christian says that he would have released a Hillary Clinton bra had Mr Obama chosen her as his running mate, but as a Democratic supporter he had no plans to make any John McCain pants. Sri Lanka boasts world's first carbon-neutral underwear factory
Green clothing is about far more than choice of fabric. Knowing that under garments are often made in developing economies, for example, the customer stereotype might well involve coal-fired incandescent lamps hung over rows of toiling women and children.
Set aside those bad lingerie thoughts: MAS Holdings of Sri Lanka has a hot green date with the global economy. Their factory is advertised as a world first for carbon neutrality. And it sounds as good as this model looks. There's no refrigerant-filled compressor for air conditioning.
Instead it uses evaporative cooling, which leaves the workplace around four degrees hotter than air-conditioning would—but uses much less energy.
The factory includes natural lighting of workspace, green roof, and so on. With the result that:
Overall it uses 40% less energy than an ordinary factory of the same size. And the electricity it uses is from renewable sources: 90% from a hydro-power plant and 10% from on-site solar panels.

The factory cost $7m to build, around 25% more than its traditional equivalent. That is partly due to a lot of fancy touches included to meet M&S's demand for an "iconic" factory. "Sexually suggestive" Disney underwear
The underwear, for girls as young as seven, are to promote the popular Disney film High School Musical and have "Dive In" written on the front.
The phrase is a reference to a scene in film where characters dive into a swimming pool. But the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) and the National Union of Teachers (NUT) have both criticised the underwear, describing it as "inappropriate".

It may sound like a joke, but this is a serious matter - the policewoman who came up with the idea said normal bras can be dangerous when worn in combination with a bullet-proof vest.

Victoria's secret: queen's underwear sells at British auction
"A giant pair of bloomers which belonged to Queen Victoria sold for nine times their estimate at an auction in Britain Wednesday.
The 50-inch (127-centimetre) waist knickers, which date from the 1890s, sold for 4,500 pounds (5,700 euros, 8,900 dollars) but had been expected to fetch just 500 pounds.
"These pants, considering their provenance and pedigree, are very exciting," said auctioneer Charles Hanson, who sold the bloomers at an auction near Derby in central England.
"They are monogrammed and crested and we know that they are hers."
The bloomers, which were sold by a British family, were bought by an anonymous Canadian.
The queen's 66-inch bust chemise sold for 4,000 pounds and her nightdress fetched 5,500 pounds at the sale.

Members of the St. James United Church of Christ in Michigan plan to take 150 boxer shorts to the altar Sunday for a blessing. The shorts have been modified for wounded veterans who wear bulky prosthetics or braces on their legs.
About 15 women at St. James replaced the shorts' side seams with a fabric fastener for easy access.
The boxers will go to an Ohio distribution center of Sew Much Comfort, a national volunteer group that adapts clothing for wounded troops.
