Barnsley schoolboy becomes Football League's youngest player
Barnsley have pledged to nurture Reuben Noble-Lazarus after the striker, aged 15 years and 45 days, became the Football League's youngest player.
Boss Simon Davey said the youngster, who was due back at school on Wednesday, was too young to be paid.
Noble-Lazarus came off the bench during his side's 3-0 defeat at Ipswich to beat the record by 113 days.
He passed a mark set by Bradford Park Avenue's Albert Geldard in 1929 and equalled by Wrexham's Ken Roberts. Barnsley have pledged to nurture Reuben Noble-Lazarus after the striker, aged 15 years and 45 days, became the Football League's ... more -

Sven-Göran Eriksson Wanted An International England
Sven-Göran Eriksson had plans to integrate as many as four foreign-born players in his England side according to David Davies, the former executive director of the Football Association.
Davies, in a Daily Mail serialisation of his book FA Confidential, claimed that Eriksson reacted to the 2004 exit from the European Championships by suggesting a list of Premier League imports who were uncapped by their countries and could legally be brought into the England side due to FIFA's residence rules.
The four names suggested by the Swede were Chelsea's Italian goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini, Brazilian midfielder Edu, then of Arsenal, and French pair Steed Malbranque and Louis Saha, who played for Fulham and Manchester United respectively.
None of the four ever went on to play for England, with Edu and Saha subsequently capped by their own nations. Sven-Göran Eriksson had plans to integrate as many as four foreign-born players in his England side according to David Davies, the for... more -
Secret UK Terror Data Sold on eBay!
A camera sold on Ebay contained photos and confidential records of MI6 terror suspects. Photographs, fingerprints and confidential documents relating to suspected Al-Qaeda terrorists were allegedly found in the memory of the second-hand Nikon Coolpix camera, which was bought on the auction site for only £17.
The confidential files were discovered after the buyer downloaded his holiday photos. He immediately reported the files to the police, who initially treated it as a joke. However, the police subsequently descended on the man's home, seizing his computer and camera equipment.
A spokesman for Hertfordshire Police said: "We can confirm we seized a camera after a member of the public reported it. Intelligence officers are investigating."
The news is hardly likely to help MI6's recruitment drive, which it was revealed earlier this week, saw the intelligence service place adverts on Facebook. The extraordinary leak also comes just a day after it was announced that a Cabinet Office official who left top secret documents on a train is to be charged under the Official Secrets Act. Black men at higher risk of prostate cancer
Black men have a three times higher risk of prostate cancer than white men. They also tend to be diagnosed five years younger, a study of all cases in London and Bristol found.
In the UK study, it was initially unclear whether there was a "genuinely" higher rate of prostate cancer in these groups or whether they were more likely to be diagnosed. But when they looked in detail at hospital records they found black and white men had similar levels of knowledge about prostate cancer, similar symptoms and similar delays before they went to their GP.
The researchers are now doing further work to see if there are any differences in survival between the two groups. Black men have a three times higher risk of prostate cancer than white men. They also tend to be diagnosed five years younger, a study... more -

Google Maps adds live traffic info for England
In a useful update from Google Maps in the UK, the techie team have added live traffic information to major roads in England - though just England mind - no Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland just yet. This sounds like it could be a useful tool, giving updated information on conditions and possible delays for anyone planning a cross-country journey. No travelling North or West of the border though, which still makes my regular trips to Scotland slightly hazardous.
Now if only they'll start encorporating train/coach times... Islamic 'porn' comment sparks suspected petrol bombing
An academic who called a novel about the Prophet Mohammed pornographic has been criticised after a publisher was targeted in a suspected bomb attack.

Muslim gang firebombs publisher of Allah novel
Scotland Yard's counter-terrorist command yesterday foiled an alleged plot by Islamic extremists to kill the publisher of a forthcoming novel featuring sexual encounters between the Prophet Muhammad and his child bride.
Early yesterday armed undercover officers arrested three men after a petrol bomb was pushed through the door of the north London home of the book’s publisher.
The Metropolitan police said the target of the assassination plot, the Dutch publisher Martin Rynja, had not been injured.
The suspected terror gang was being followed by undercover police and the fire was quickly put out after the fire brigade smashed down the front door.
The foiled terrorist attack recalled the death threats and uproar 20 years ago following the publication of Salman Rushdie’s Satanic Verses, and the worldwide protests that followed the publication in a Danish newspaper in 2005 of cartoons deemed offensive to Islam, in which more than 100 people died.
Security officials believe Rynja was targeted for assassination because his firm, Gibson Square, is preparing to publish a romantic novel about Aisha, child bride of the Prophet Muhammad. The Jewel of Medina, by the first-time American author Sherry Jones, describes an imaginary sex scene between the prophet and his 14-year-old wife.
It was withdrawn from publication in America last month after its publisher there, Random House, said it feared a violent reaction by “a small radical segment” of Muslims. It said “credible and unrelated sources” had warned that the book could incite violence. Scotland Yard's counter-terrorist command yesterday foiled an alleged plot by Islamic extremists to kill the publisher of a forth... more -

FIFA fine Croatia over racist chants
Fifa has fined the Croatian Football Federation £15,000 for the racist behaviour of their fans during the match with England on 10 September.
Monkey chants were heard from a section of the Maksimir Stadium when England striker Emile Heskey was booked.
The FA made an official complaint after the game and Heskey later called the fans "ignorant people" and claimed he ignored them.
"You have to let the people above deal with that and I will carry on playing my game," added the England forward.
The FIFA statement said: "Racism has no place in football.
"Fifa is determined to continue broadcasting this message around the globe and deploying all of the means at its disposal to eliminate this form of discrimination."

Microsoft unveils $40bn buy-back
Microsoft has unveiled plans to spend $40bn (£22bn) buying back its shares from investors, the biggest single buy-back plan in history.
Analysts say the move is an attempt by the software giant to use its spare cash to prop up its share price which has fallen by almost 30% this year.
Hewlett-Packard and Nike have also announced major buy-back programmes.
The personal computer-maker will buy back $8bn of shares, while Nike's plan is worth $5bn.
'Attractive prices'
Microsoft said the buy-back plan showed its "confidence in the long-term growth of the company and our commitment to returning capital to our shareholders."
Industry watchers have said Microsoft will be hoping the plan will revive its share price which has declined this year, partly due to its failed $47.5bn (£26.3bn) bid to buy the internet portal Yahoo.
"I'm impressed," said Michael Holland of the deals. He oversees $4bn (£2.2bn) as chairman and founder of Holland & Co in New York.
"When companies have come in to buy their own stock subsequent to a financial crisis, they've bought at attractive prices and it's been a good use of liquidity," Mr Holland told Bloomberg News.
At the end of June this year, the company was sitting on a cash mountain of $23.7bn and has never been in debt in its 33-year history.
The BBC's technology reporter Maggie Shiels said there was little doubt Microsoft had to do something because it simply had too much cash lying on its books following the company's failed attempt to buy either all or part of Yahoo.
Dealogic said the new buy-back, which will run until 2013, was the largest single announced share-buyback in history.
It follows a previous 2004 plan which started as a $30bn project and was later boosted by another $10bn.
'Volatile market'
HP said its board approved an $8bn repurchase following a previous programme which started in November. About $3bn (£1.6bn) remains from that authorisation.
The firm said it gave the go-ahead to the share buy-back to counteract the effect employee stock plans have on ownership percentages.
Just last week the PC-maker announced it was cutting 24,600 jobs in the wake of its acquisition of Electronic Data Systems Corp.
Meanwhile Nike's plan to buy back $5bn of shares over the next four years has been welcomed by Standard & Poor's Equity Research as providing "support to the shares in a volatile market."
Share buy-backs peaked in the third quarter of 2007 at $172bn according to Standard & Poor's senior index analyst Howard Silverblatt. The figure for the first quarter of this year is $113.9bn. Microsoft has unveiled plans to spend $40bn (£22bn) buying back its shares from investors, the biggest single buy-back plan in history... more
