Mos Def hit his wife???
The Hip Hop community felt a break in its beat as the Confessions of a Video Vixen, a first major tell-all book from Karrine “Superhead” Steffans first released in 2005. The book provides insight into Steffans’ tortured past while outlining her escapades, trials and tribulations as a video girl in the overly-misogynistic and competitively materialistic world of commercial Hip Hop. A year later, the mother of Nas’s child and Jay-Z’s former lover, Carmen Bryan, released her own literary exhibition, It’s No Secret. Despite the negative and one-sided labels attached to both Steffans and Bryan, one fact remains: they have exposed the vulnerability, and inadequacy of some of the best of the best in industry while challenging the validity of their character and even, appeal. The books forced the media to take a look at the commercial aspects of the Hip Hop industry as it firmly stands in its comfortable nest of greed and misogyny. A year later, the eagle strikes again.
This time it comes by way of an intriguing Canadian whose resume includes the bullets of a writer, a video model (who can forget Snoop and Pharrell’s “Drop it Like it’s Hot?”), a real estate agent and a mother of a seven-year old son whom she shares with Canadian rapper Saukrates. Alana Wyatt-Smith, also known as “Mrs. Mos Def” in her recent memoir, Breaking the Code of Silence, describes various relationships she has had with NBA players (including Antawn Jamison and Jermaine O’Neal) as well as abuse allegations against her husband, rapper/actor Mos Def. The book expands to outline Mrs. Wyatt-Smith’s childhood and teen years including sexual and physical abuse, as well as objectified roles in which she was starring various leads including stripper and one night stand, as well as girlfriend and wife. HipHopDX catches up with Mrs. Mos Def to decipher her intentions for the book, the harsh double-standard in the entertainment industry and the night with the traveling man that led her to filing for divorce.

Greedy, Why Wait? Why High School Ballers Are Over College
In basketball today, the almighty dollar rules the world. Take young Brandon Jennings for example. One of the top high school players in the country has recently decided to skip college and go straight to the pros. Maybe your saying "Wait a second AROC, I thought high schoolers had to go to at least one year of college before going to the pros." Well you are correct my friend but only in the case of the NBA. This is not the case when it comes to playing professionally in places over seas where no such rules apply. "Ah yes AROC I think I know where you are going with this."
Over the past decade symptoms of foreign interest and involvement in the game of basketball have been growing. Before the year 2000 if I said "international basketball" you'd probably think "Tony Kucoc or Detlef Schremph?". The US has dominated the sport since its inception but now things are changing quickly. Yao Ming, Tony Parker, and Steve Nash are but a few of the foreigners that are among the best players in the league. The fact that the USA basketball team is even being questioned as the consensus pick to win the Olympics should be evidence enough to convince us all that the game is changing.
Back to Brandon Jennings. The NBA's policy is such that a player is not allowed to enter the NBA Draft straight out of high school. At first this seems like a great idea. Better players in the NCAA, more mature players in the NBA and happy fans across the boards. Besides the 1/1000 players that have a career changing injury in that one year of college everybody wins. Right? Problem is that the kids want or in a few cases need the money and don't want to wait it out. In this years NBA draft many players from overseas were questioning whether or not it was worth it to join a team that may not even garauntee them a spot on the roster. Rookie contracts in the NBA are also becoming a factor as non-NBA contracts continue to grow with the popularity of the sport. Some players might be able to find a more lucrative contracts abroad whereas the NBA limits the amount of money a rookie can make.
In the case of high schoolers like Jennings, possibly the best h.s. player in his class, the difference is very significant. A free year of schooling and college hoops at Arizona or hundreds of thousands of dollars and pro basketball overseas. Well Brandon Jennings has made his decision and will become the first player to give up his scholarship. Dorm rooms and textbooks? No Sir. He will likely play ball in Europe for a year, make a bundle of cash (hopefuly Euros for his sake) and watch college hoops from his apartment in Italy.
This will undoubtedly set the precedent for the future and could even lead to others following suit this year. The whole thing wreaks of Maurice Clarett but it does make sense and will probably work out better for the Jennings. The jig is up everyone. If it wasn't going to be Jennings then it was going to be somebody else. What remains to be seen/heard is the reaction from the NBA and NCAA chieftons who'd be smart to start figuring out a way to stop this from happening. If not, there could be two drafts next year and and a bunch of 6'9 kids signing up for Latin. In basketball today, the almighty dollar rules the world. Take young Brandon Jennings for example. Warriors make offer to Elton Brand
os Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - The Golden State Warriors have reportedly offered free agent Elton Brand a larger deal than the one offered to him by the Los Angeles Clippers.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the Warriors have offered the power forward $100 million over five seasons. Brand, who opted out of the final year of his contract to become a free agent, missed most of the 2007-08 season with a ruptured left Achilles tendon.
The offer comes on the heels of Baron Davis' reported verbal agreement to sign with the Clippers, thereby giving the Warriors more cap space than their cross-state rival.

Clippers reach verbal agreement to sign Baron Davis - 5 years/ $65-Million
I guess B-Dizzle doesn't believe anymore. Sorry, Warriors fans but you had to know this was coming when he opted out of his deal. The chance to go home and play in LA with Elton Brand & the rest of the up & coming Clips was just too strong to pass up.
"Baron Davis' agent, Todd Ramasar, told The Times that they have a verbal agreement to sign with the Clippers."
Davis, a former All-Star point guard, is expected to sign a contract in the five-year, $65-million range.
"From a basketball standpoint it's always been about winning for Baron," Ramasar said. "This presented a good opportunity to do that to pair him with Chris Kaman and Elton Brand is expected back." US basketball team named
The US invented the sport of basketball, and yet at the Athens Olympics 4 years ago, we had our high-tops handed to us, losing 3 games in the Olympics and coming in 3rd.
Hopefully this year will be different. The team will be led on the court by super-stars LeBron James and Kobe Bryant, but more importantly (in my unabashedly biased opinion - I am a Dukie after all!) they will be coached by Hall of Famer Coach Krzyzewski.
The full roster announced this morning is:
Kobe Bryant
LeBron James
Dwyane Wade
Carmelo Anthony
Jason Kidd
Tayshaun Prince
Carlos Boozer
Chris Bosh
Dwight Howard
Chris Paul
Michael Redd
Deron Williams
Is this team unbeatable? Or could egos cause them tp come home without the gold? And there's no one from the newly crowned NBA champs, the Boston Celtics. Is that a slight? Celtics Win 17th Title
The Boston Celtics beat the Los Angeles Lakers to capture a record 17th NBA Championship. The win marks their first title since "The Big Three" Larry Bird, Kevin McHale and Robert Parish won it back in 1986. This time "The Big Three" for Boston came in the form of Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Finals MVP Paul Pierce who teamed up to dismantle the Lakers team in the best of seven series that many people picked them to lose. Stay Classy Boston (22 arrested)
Surprising only in that there were so few arrested after such a big win. Guess Boston fans really don't have much heart after all. I mean come on, 22, thats nothing. In a statement to the press Boston's Mayor called these Celtics fans "punks" and hopes that they will face tough punishments. As my friend Vince Vaughn said once, "Class, class, class". Right Gino! Hope Dworaczyk Is Jason Kidd’s Pregnant Girlfriend (Photos)
So Jason Kidd gets his girlfriend pregnant…Page Six reports that Hope Dworaczyk is a “model” and that their parents celebrated the news by dining at Sabor Latin Bistro Sunday night. Evidently she has already started showing, so she’s no longer sitting courtside at the games.
Hope Dworaczyk Biography
Not much is known about Hope Dworaczyk except for the fact that she is a “model”. Was she crowned Miss South-Texas Junior Co-Ed at one point? I found her MySpace page, but it’s set to private. Shoot! I wanted to see if there were more photos of her on there since doing a photo search of her comes up nothing. I would think that after Jason’s nasty split from his ex-wife Joumana, he would have sworn off women for a while, but obviously he didn’t waste any time. You gotta check out The Big Lead for a comical comment regarding the reason why Hope got pregnant…

Former referee says that NBA games are fixed by the league front office
Disgraced former NBA referee, Tim Donaghy says that the league front office is conspiring with league officials to fix games, in particular, NBA play-off games. In 2005, Dallas Maverick owner Mark Cuban was so angry after the Maverick seven game loss to the Miami Heat, in which the Mavs led by seven points with less than forty seconds to go in the game, but lost by three points on questionable calls against Heat star Dwayne Wade, that he wanted to sell the team six months after the series was over. He could not digest his anger. Cuban said then, that the NBA was fixed.NBA comissioner, David Stern later convinced him to change his mind.
For years, many star players including Detroit Piston center, Rasheed Wallace has claimed that league referees target him, along with other star players for nonsense touch fouls, to set the tempo of the games. As expected. David Stern is denying all allegations claiming, Donaghy is desperately trying to create a stir with federal investigators and the public, to cut a deal him for, perhaps time off from his twenty five year sentence he recieved for being convicted fixing games himself.Donaghy was indicted and convicted last year after it eas discoverd that he had been heavily involved in a major gambling ring with bookies out of Las Vegas.
