Tiger Woods on course to become first billionaire sportsman
Everyone's favourite golfer Tiger Woods is apparently on course to make one billion dollars in career earning by 2010, which will see him become the world's first billionaire from playing sports.
A Forbes magazine article explains that "it will be an unprecedented occurrence," and that "there are plenty of billionaires who have excelled at sports like Switzerland's richest man and champion sailor Ernesto Bertarelli." But, that "there are no billionaires who accumulated their fortune by playing sports."
Woods has won 14 championships, racked up $115 million in 2007 alone, and is well on course to become the greatest golfer ever to grace this planet.

Tiger Woods wins U.S. Open
One shot behind on the 18th hole after a collapse no one saw coming, Woods birdied the 18th hole to force sudden death at Torrey Pines against a 45-year-old with a creaky back who simply wouldn't go away.
But that one extra hole was enough to doom Mediate, trying to become the oldest U.S. Open champion at 45 years, 6 months. He put his tee shot in the bunker at No. 7, knocked his approach off a cart path and against the bleachers, chipped some 18 feet past the hole and missed the par putt.
Woods, who delivered so many spectacular moments over four days along the Pacific bluffs, only needed a two-putt par at the end to win the U.S. Open for the third time, and the first since it last was held on a public course at Bethpage Black in 2002.
Woods joins Jack Nicklaus as the only players to capture the career Grand Slam three times over.

Tiger puts away Mediate on 91st hole to win U.S. Open
SAN DIEGO -- Looking as vulnerable as he ever has during a run toward a major, Tiger Woods is nonetheless the U.S. Open champion for a third time.
On the 91st hole at Torrey Pines, Woods stood strong on his wobbly left knee in putting away a determined Rocco Mediate in sudden death to win his 14th major title.
The two shot even-par 71 Monday, so the playoff continued, starting on the par-4 seventh hole. Woods two-putted for par, then looked on as Mediate missed his par-saving try from 15 feet.
It also was Woods' seventh victory at Torrey Pines, the most victories of any golfer on one course.
Woods blew a three-shot lead he built by the 10th hole and trailed by one, but got onto the par-5 18th hole in two and made a 4-foot putt for birdie. Mediate had a chance to win the tournament with a 20-foot birdie putt of his own, but he missed and had to make a testy 3-foot comebacker to stay tied.
This marked only the third time a U.S. Open playoff has gone beyond 18 holes. The last was 1994, when Ernie Els and Loren Roberts played to a draw, then went two extra holes before Els won his first championship.
Mediate trailed by three heading into the 11th hole, but made three straight birdies on Nos. 13, 14 and 15 to grab the lead and force Woods to birdie the 18th to stay in the tournament.
Woods did the same thing Sunday on No. 18 to force the playoff and stay in contention for his 14th major. He has never lost when holding at least a share of the 54-hole lead, as he did heading into the final round this time.
Mediate, meanwhile, is seeking his first major victory. At 45 years, 6 months, he would become the oldest first-time major winner and the oldest man to win the U.S. Open. Rocco Mediate just barely loses sudden playoff to Tiger at Torrey Pines
In what could have been one of the great Cinderella stories of the 2008 U.S. Open 45 year old Rocco Mediate who had never won a major tournament, falls just short in sudden death against Tiger after playing 90 holes of even golf with Tiger.

The fittest guy in America!
Tiger named the fittest of them all
This week, as Woods rehabbed his knee in Florida, Men’s Fitness magazine named him the “Fittest Guy in America.” The award might not be on the level of a Masters title, but Woods did face some competition from the likes of Will Smith, Browns quarterback Brady Quinn, Phillies second baseman Chase Utley and someone called “Mark Steines.” Tiger named the fittest of them all ... more -

Racism alive and well in America
This is one of those things you have to take a moment to process, as in "did he really just say that?" What's sad is Sen. McCain then shakes his hand and smiles to his wonderful cheering audience. Even sadder, most likely neither man even realized the depravity of the moment or introductory statement. Ridiculous racist sentiment aside, is this really the best person they could find to make this intro? Public speaking doesn't seem to be is forte or first best destiny. Saddest of all - this clown as reproduced, creating a whole new generation of forward thinkers such as himself.
Sen. Obama should use this for fund raising at the very least and if this doesn't convince you to support not only the man but what he so obviously stands for in the face of such arcane ideals nothing else will. In essence one is either part of the new solution or part of the age old problem. This is one of those things you have to take a moment to process, as in "did he really just say that?" Trevor Immelman survives final round for 30 mph wins to win Masters
While we hear nothing but "Tiger Lost" stories about this exciting Masters this year, the real story is how composed Immelman was during this tournament. Tiger swings for his fifth Masters title
Woods has won eight out of his last 10 tournaments and is an even-money favorite to capture his fifth Masters, odds never before seen in golf.
The pressure of expectation is immense but he did little to play down speculation about a calendar grand slam with his declaration that it was "easily within reason."
Woods is the only professional to hold all four majors at the same time, sweeping them in a span of 294 days from the 2000 U.S. Open to the 2001 Masters.
He showed up at Augusta last year going for his third straight major only to be denied by Zach Johnson who will start two groups ahead of him, grouped with England's Luke Donald and Australia's Geoff Ogilvy, the 2006 U.S. Open champion.
Nothing seems out of reach to Woods, whose main opponent is history. He’s already got 13 major titles, with Jack Nicklaus’ 18 the only thing standing between him and being the sport’s greatest champio: A Grand Slam Woods has won eight out of his last 10 tournaments and is an even-money favorite to capture his fifth Masters, odds never before seen ... more -
More from Rev. Jeremiah Wright
"For every one Oprah, a billionaire, you've got five million blacks who are out of work," he said. "For every one Colin Powell, a millionaire, you've got 10 million blacks who cannot read. For every one Condoskeeza [sic] Rice, you've got one million in prison. For every one Tiger Woods, who needs to get beat, at the Masters, with his cap-blazing hips, playing on a course that discriminates against women. For every one Tiger Woods, we got 10,000 black kids who will never see a golf course."
Tiger Woods needs to get beat? Beat on the golf course, ha! not likely, the man is playing like a god among men and hopefully Rev. Wright isn't wishing Tiger to get beaten physically...plus I've never been on a golf course, is it cause I'm Spanish or poor, I'm thinking its cause I'm poor, which really sucks, oh well poor me. PGA Announcer speaks America's institutional/aggregate conscience
If we ignore this, it most certainly, won't go away. Ever astounded at the desire to make indifferent the dehumanizing jibes/slights that many make, I had to post this when I came across it. Here, we have a young man (not unlike our presidential encumbent) of mixed race who (it appears) is willing to overlook this incident in the name of friendship. (go to link above for full story at Chicago Tribune) He's not even affording his "FRIEND?" the opportunity to grow from this experience...let alone the aggregate school of (cultural institutionalized subliminal) racist thought that pervades every prism of life in this great country of ours.
There is a larger lesson here than choice of words. (Lynching look up what that could potentially entail)
The underlying lesson we can only hope one takes from reading this is that the disease of racism is not benign. While I realize that Tiger is of mixed decent and it is not his obligation - the agendas of the many ethnicites' he represents - he DOES have a greater responsibility to humanity for all he has been afforded. If we ignore this, it most certainly, won't go away. Ever astounded at the desire to make indifferent the dehumanizing jibes/slights ... more -
