Georgia Ranked #1 for First Time Ever
NEW YORK -- By the time Georgia was done demolishing Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl, it was apparent the Bulldogs were well on their way to being No. 1 -- to start the 2008 college football season.
Seeking its first national championship in 28 years, Georgia is on top of The Associated Press preseason Top 25 for the first time.
The Bulldogs received 22 first-place votes and 1,528 points from a panel of 65 media members in the poll released Saturday.
"To have people believing we have one of the best teams in the nation going into this thing, it's exciting for us," Bulldogs coach Mark Richt said in a telephone interview with the AP. The Best College Football Players come from the South
The first college football game was played 139 years ago in New Jersey, between Rutgers and Princeton, and the sport was dominated by Northeastern schools such as Yale and Harvard in its infancy.
By the middle of the last century the South had risen in college football, and these days there’s no question: If you want to win a national championship, it’s best to play in places where sunscreen is more important than snow boots, and the grits are better than the bagels.
Why? Simple. Because that’s where the best players are.
Since the Bowl Championship Series started crowning a national champion in 1998, Ohio State and Oklahoma are the only schools that play in cold weather to have won a championship. LSU (and their Cheer Squad) Wins
No they aren't Saints cheerleaders even though the game was played in their stadium.
No, you are looking at the Golden Girls of Louisiana State University. The Girls added a little sex appeal but also a key component in last nights (non)game. The Golden Girls led Louisiana State University's Tigers to another BCS title. They cheered the defense on to several turnovers and drove the offense with the help of Matt Flynn to a very convincing win.
The championship is the second in four years for LSU, both under coach Les Miles.

BCS to explore modified playoff
In an attempt to suck even more, it looks like the BCS is going to consider seeding the Top 4 teams, having the BCS Championship Game and THEN add a "Plus One" game. Confused? You should be.
Luckily the Pac-10, Big-10 and Rose Bowl aren't interested.
Plus One would potentially seed the top four teams in the final BCS standings. No. 1 would play No. 4 and No. 2 would play No. 3 in two of the major BCS bowls, and the winners would then play for the BCS title.
Swofford admitted Plus One would not solve the controversies that have often plagued the BCS since its inception in 1998.
If Plus One was used this year, Georgia and USC, two of the hottest teams in the country, would not have made the cut. Georgia finished No. 5 in the BCS standings; USC was No. 7.

LSU vs. Ohio State
It's time for the biggest game in college sports! The LSU Tigers take on the Ohio State Buckeyes today in what should be a fairly decent Championship game. With all the ups and downs in college football this year it is hard to say if these are the best two teams in the nation right now but they are both certainly worthy and deserving. Many people are picking LSU in this game with good cause. LSU has a great defense that comes up with big turnovers and have proven their ability to win in some pretty big time games.
However Ohio State isn't a huge underdog and could win this game if they ball rolls in their favor. Many people are simply looking to last years championship game as a way to measure this team which is pretty ironic. Since they lost last year the popular consensus is that this team will have the same problems (speed mostly) as they did against Florida last year. So whereas last year the Buckeyes were favorites they are now underdogs. This will just fuel their intesity as it did for Florida last year.
In the end LSU will win this game and the championship as I semi-predicted very early on in the year http://current.com/items/77730441_florida_vs_lsu). The defense is solid, the offense is clutch and they are playing at home.

The Broncos accepted an invitation to the Hawaii Bowl yesterday dogging Boise's own Humanitarian Bowl to play the East Carolina Pirates just a month after losing to Hawaii in the WAC championship. Can't say I blame the Broncos for wanting to go kick it on the beach, but by accepting the bid, the Broncos are giving up a shot at Georgia Tech, an ACC team, and disappointing many of us here in Boise. LSU has taken the number one ranking in the computer standings beating out previous number one USC. Doesn't it seem unfair to fall in the rankings after winning a game? The BCS is going down!!!
Much to my chagrin it seems as though the BCS bs may be coming to an end. Everybody has agreed that the present Championship game hardly does justice to the game or satisfies the viewers, players, coaches, family, teachers, schools, etc. of the game.
