Files on RAF staff stolen from base
Thieves have stolen files containing the personal records of thousands of serving and former RAF staff, the Ministry of Defence said.
The information was stored on computer hard drives at the Service Personnel and Veterans Agency at RAF Innsworth, Gloucester.
Police are investigating the incident which took place last Wednesday within a high-security area at the base. The MoD said it is treating the breach "extremely seriously".
The agency provides support services for some 900,000 serving and ex-service personnel.
It is as yet unclear what information was stored on the three disc drives taken and how many people's records are affected.
A spokesman for the MoD said: "We can confirm that an investigation is being conducted by the MoD Police, with the support of Gloucestershire Police into the apparent theft of three USB portable hard disc drives.
"We are taking this incident extremely seriously. In view of the ongoing nature of police inquiries, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage."
The data loss will come as the latest embarrassment for the Government, which has already suffered a series of lost or stolen data files. Earlier this week, a disc containing the names and addresses of almost 11,500 teachers went missing in the post.
Commenting on the latest data loss, Nick Harvey, Lib Dem Defence spokesman, said: "This is just the latest in a seemingly endless stream of stories involving personal information being lost or stolen.
"The first priority has to be ensuring that nobody's security has been put at risk, but we also need a serious look at the way such sensitive data is being handled. The current situation is unacceptable. How can the Government expect people to support ID cards when personal information is apparently so insecure?" Jamie Lynn - police pornography investigation – huh!
A picture of Jamie Lynn Spears breastfeeding her baby Maddie has gone missing on the missing list. She’s under 18 and that means, the shot in question is considered pornography. the photo was taken by jamies boyfriend casey on his digital camera, and then took the memory card to the local Wal-Mart supermarket to get the shots printed, which is where the trouble started. Police believe that there has been copies of the photo by an employee, which exposes the 17 year old’s left breast, and then tried to sell them. Buying or selling the picture would be a violation of laws prohibiting pornography, so police are now trying to find the man in question.

Woman Carjacks NYPD Police Van
A young woman stole a police van from two red-faced rookies in Harlem last night - then took a joyride that ended when she smashed into a truck and a Mercedes, sources told The Post.
The improbable heist started at 9:40 p.m., when Annette Mateo walked into 30th Precinct station house on West 151st Street to file a complaint."She wasn't happy with the way things were going," said an officer. "She left the precinct pissed."
Mateo stormed out just as the two rookies got out of their van to switch seats - as they're required to do every four hours.
She jumped in and was off, but went only a block and a half before smashing into a 18-wheeler supermarket delivery truck, the source said. She continued on and hit the 2003 Mercedes. "My car was completely crushed," said the owner, Frantz Jumel, a rapper who goes by the name Emperor Chi. "It was totaled."

1,000 gallons of gas stolen
Well, I hope whoever stole it is going on a road trip!
______
Police say someone has stolen more than 1,000 gallons of gasoline from a station in New York's Westchester County. Authorities said Thursday that the gas apparently was filched from five pumps sometime last weekend in Pelham Manor.
The station values its losses at $4,000 for the gas and $2,000 for damaged pumps. Police will be reviewing surveillance tapes of the station.
On July 15, workers at a convenience store in Lehigh Acres, Fla., reported the theft of 995 gallons of gas. Authorities said the pump was rigged so it didn't register with the attendant. The sheriff's office said there were no cameras on those pumps. Well, I hope whoever stole it is going on a road trip! ______ ... more -

Thieves break into aquatics shop, steal shark
British police were searching for a shark stolen from an aquatics shop over the weekend in southern England.
The female Australian marbled cat shark was one of a breeding pair kept in a converted garage in the back of a store owned by Peter Newman in Farnborough, about 20 miles west of London's Heathrow Airport, police said Tuesday.
The shark, two feet long and mottled brown, is rare in Britain, police said.
Newman, 68, said he realized the shark was missing Saturday morning when he found the door to the converted garage ajar and the lights on inside.
"I'm just very angry really," he told The Associated Press on Tuesday. "Whoever came in there clearly knew what they were after. They probably would have taken the pair, but the male's a bit harder to catch really."
The two sharks have produced seven pups, which are kept in an adjacent tank, Newman said. None of them were taken in the theft.
His wife, June Newman, said the pair might together be worth as much as $20,000 because of their rarity. She said her husband might have left a door unlocked.
She also said she was puzzled by the theft, explaining that it would have been difficult to snatch the shark because the top of the tank was around five feet off the ground.
"It's mind-boggling to me as to how this shark has been taken," she said. British police were searching for a shark stolen from an aquatics shop over the weekend in southern England. ... more -

Brazil police recover stolen Picasso
Police recovered a Pablo Picasso print and arrested one person in connection with an armed robbery at Sao Paulo's Pinacoteca Museum last month, local media reported on Saturday.
The print, Picasso's "The Painter and the Model" from 1963, was one of four works taken in broad daylight on June 12, the official Agencia Brasil government news agency said.
The Spanish artist's "Minotaur, Drinker and Women" from 1933 and two works by Brazilian artists are still missing.
Police found the print with Wesley Teobaldo Barros, who was arrested as he prepared to steal an automated teller machine, Agencia Estado said. Three others were arrested with Barros, but they were not involved with the art heist, it said.
The artworks, which included the print "Couple" by Brazilian artist Lasar Segall (1891-1957) and the painting "Women in a Window" by fellow Brazilian Emiliano Di Cavalcanti (1897-1976), are valued at 1 million reais (314,670 pounds), according to the Sao Paulo state culture secretary.
The June robbery was the second theft of works by Picasso in Sao Paulo in the past year. In December, his "Portrait of Suzanne Bloch" was stolen from the Sao Paulo Museum of Art.
Police recovered the painting and arrested two suspects a few weeks later. Police recovered a Pablo Picasso print and arrested one person in connection with an armed robbery at Sao Paulo's Pinacoteca Muse... more -

Woman remotely logs in to her stolen Mac to catch thieves
A woman whose apartment was burgled has caught the thieves by hacking into the laptop they'd stolen and taking pictures of them.
On Tuesday last week, one of the victims received a phone call from a friend asking her if she was online: she said no, and was told by the friend that his computer showed her as being logged onto the web. At that point, the victim signed onto another computer and used the "Back to My Mac" programme to deduce that her stolen Mac was online, and that someone was using it to shop on the internet. She then activated the stolen computer's camera, allowing her to "see" what was in front of the laptop.
At first she saw only an empty chair - but a little while later she was able to photograph a man sitting in front of her stolen laptop, and then his accomplice. The victim did not know either man but showed the photos to one of her roommates, who recognized them as having attended a get-together at the apartment a few weeks before the burglary.
The burglars, both men in their 20s, were arrested at their New York homes on Wednesday, after the woman handed the photographs in to the police. Around $5,000 (over £2,500) worth of electrical equipment was recovered. Obama's Allentowngate: laptops missing
Barack Obama's Allentown office was burglarized this week, and multiple laptops and cell phones were stolen, an Obama campaign aide said today. A police spokesman confirmed the incident, but couldn't provide details today because reports are kept in the department's records depository, which is closed weekends.
An Obama aide, speaking on condition of anonymity, said "a couple" field laptops were taken out of the office at 1233 Linden St. The computers have demographic information that the campaign uses to target voters. "A couple" cell phones were also taken, the aide said.
Police spokesman Capt. James Stephens confirmed the break-in, but could not confirm details of what was taken because the records office is closed on weekends. When and how the break-in occurred also remained unclear. Stephens would only say that it happened "a couple days ago." The Obama campaign declined to comment officially on the incident.
Both campaigns have had their share of incidents at field offices during the race. Obama field offices in California and Iowa have also been broken into. And late last year, a man took campaign workers hostage at a Hillary Clinton field office in Rochester, N.Y.
