Google Earth captures drunk earthling passed out
A man who fell asleep in a drunken stupor on the grass outside his home was horrified to find his embarrassment posted on the internet.
He had been drowning his sorrows over the death of a friend and collapsed after climbing out of a taxi.
As he slept off his excesses, a car-mounted video camera passed by to record pictures of the street for Google's StreetView website. A man who fell asleep in a drunken stupor on the grass outside his home was horrified to find his embarrassment posted on the internet... more -
NIN loves its fans... and google earth!
Hardcore Nine Inch Nails fans got a special treat last week when Trent Reznor and company hid tickets to a private concert all over Los Angeles. More than twenty question marks appeared on a Google Earth map that NIN put out on their tour page. The question marks were labeled with phrases like "Men's room. Behind the mirror. Be discreet," and "Incredibly ugly hat. Last pair of tickets." Quick-thinking fans noted the GPS coordinates of question marks and set off on a treasure hunt, much like geocachers.
At each location there was a hidden white envelope marked with a question mark. Inside, were two tickets to a private invite-only show and directions on how to email and confirm the show's location. The envelopes were hidden in various ways: inside a drain pipe, inside a book on a shelf at Barnes and Noble, and on the base of the triceratops statue at the Natural History Museum, just to name a few. The headstone on the right is where a fan found the tickets labeled "A. Boner". [see link]
Nine Inch Nails has always treated its fans with love, releasing their album, "The Slip", online for free, and hosting other secret shows for members of their fan club. This ticket hunt is not the first stroke of marketing brilliance to come from NIN. Last year, they started an ARG for their album "Year Zero". Way to go to Trent and Nine Inch Nails for keeping the excitement alive for their most loyal fans.

Google Earth used to organise 'Facebook dipping' parties
Would-be revellers are using satellite images on the internet to find houses with swimming pools - and then turning up uninvited for an impromptu dip. The craze involves using the Google Earth programme, which provides high-quality aerial photos of Britain and other countries.
Once a target is chosen, the organisers use social networking sites such as Facebook and Bebo to arrange to meet, say police. Officers said that residents have woken up to find youngsters 'dipping' in their back gardens, or have come home from work to a swimming pool full of beer cans. Google Earth Disney: planning tool or trip replacement?
The folks at Google Earth have just created an incredible 3-D model of the entire Disney World resort area. You can walk down the virtual streets and click on any building to see what's inside.
Disney bills it as the world's best trip planning device. People can get the feel for the area's layout to schedule their time and they can make reservations at all the hotels and restaurants right through the interface.
That said, with the price of both air fare and gas rising so fast, I think parents with gullible children should consider "taking their kids to Disney World" by sitting them down in front of a monitor.
Even folks who have no interest in Disney world should have a look. Google and Microsoft are both moving quickly to map the entire world in this level of detail and more. As screens get larger and graphics keep improving, virtual visits may start to seem a lot like actual travel.
One warning: the application is so rich that it will hog your Internet connection, your CPU and your RAM. The folks at Google Earth have just created an incredible 3-D model of the entire Disney World resort area. You can walk down the virt... more -

View the world's most stunning photos with Earth Album
Earth Album's a clever Google Maps/Flickr mashup that lets you nose through some of the world's most eye-catching, beautiful photographs.
It's not as clever as Flickr's own location-based tagging system - it won't, for example, show you pictures taken in specific areas of a city and is limited to pictures from the entire city instead, but it is very clever and a lot of fun to browse.
