Ronaldinho to sign for AC Milan
Manchester City have lost out to Italian side AC Milan in the race to sign Barcelona playmaker Ronaldinho.
Milan will pay Spanish side Barcelona just £14.6m for his services, with the figure likely to be increased by performance-related bonuses.
The two-time Fifa World Player of the Year's time at Barcelona effectively came to an end in June when new manager Pep Guardiola announced the playmaker was surplus to requirements.
Ronaldinho helped Barcelona win back-to-back Spanish league titles (2004-05, 2005-06) and the Champions League in 2006, but failed to cement a regular place in the starting XI last season because of injury and fitness issues. "MADRID (AFP) - Spain's success at Euro 2008 hurt attendance at an erotic film festival which wrapped up Saturday in Madrid as its target audience -- men -- were glued to their television screens, organisers said.
About 15,000 people flocked to the three-day International Erotic Film Festival of Barcelona (FICEB), staged for the first time in the Spanish capital this year since it started being held in 1992." Spain beats Germany to win Euro 2008 title
Spain finally ended their 44-year wait for a trophy when Fernando Torres's exquisite first-half goal gave them a deserved 1-0 victory over Germany in a fast and furious Euro 2008 final on Sunday.
Spain, appearing in their first final since 1984 and seeking only their second trophy following their 1964 Euro success on home soil, were worthy winners as their crisp passing, wonderful technique and defensive discipline left Germany flailing.
Torres's goal after 33 minutes was also fit for a final as he showed all the speed, determination and quality of finish that summed up his team's whole campaign. Pele attacked and robbed at gunpoint
What is this world coming to? At least the legendary soccer player wasn't hurt. He did loose some cash, his watch (which was a nice one I bet) and his mobile phone. Duder, there's two things to remember here... one, don't steal from Pele. I mean come on, it's Pele for chrissakes. What is this world coming to? At least the legendary soccer player wasn't hurt. Spain goes to UEFA 2008 semi-finals with 4-2 win aganist Italy
Spain beat Italy 4-2 on penalties to reach the semi-finals of Euro 2008 after a goalless draw in Vienna.
Marcos Senna came closest in normal time when Italy keeper Gianluigi Buffon fumbled his shot on to a post.
Spain keeper Iker Casillas was the hero in the shoot-out, saving from Daniele de Rossi and Antonio di Natale.
Fabregas, on as substitute, was left to settle the affair and calmly beat Buffon to spark wild Spanish celebrations. Spain beat Italy 4-2 on penalties to reach the semi-finals of Euro 2008 after a goalless draw in Vienna. ... more -

U.S. to challenge England in bid to host the 2018 World Cup
For the past year or so, I've been following the news surrounding England's attempt to win the bid to host the World Cup in 2018. In all of that time I couldn't believe that US Soccer was just going to sit around and let Europe host another World Cup before it could come back to North America.
At last, the word is that the USSF is going to bid against any European bid to host the tournament in 2018.
England's stance is that following the Summer Olympics of 2012 the infrastructure will be in place to host the World Cup.
That USSF's answer: the infrastructure to host the World Cup already in place.
USSF's Sunil Gulati: "There is no country in the world in a better position in terms of stadium facilities and size than us."
"We have got 50 stadia of 70,000 capacities capable of hosting the World Cup. We could have hosted the competition in 1998 in stadiums that didn't even exist in 1994, and the same goes for 2002 and not use any stadiums that existed in 1998.
"We are determined to finish what we started in 1994. We are the most diversified nation in the world. If Nigeria and Ghana played each other, it would sell out. If Australia played Costa Rica, it would sell out. When we staged a third-place play off between Sweden and Bulgaria in 1994 there were 85,000 people there. My point is that it is not a question of fearing any country. We think we'd have a great bid, great structure and a great landscape." Immigrant Football referees
Jorge Obando is an ecuadorian immigrant in Barcelona. For 8 years he has been working as a bricklayer from Monday to Friday. In his search of increasing his income and send more money to his family, came to his mind the idea of becoming a referee in the weekends. Nowadays he is the director of the first Center of Latin-American Referees in Catalunya, which more than 20 boys attend – most of them illegal immigrants - motivated by the economic needs and the passion for the sport.
