Beckham Bows Out
David Beckham sprained his right knee in a game Thursday night and will be out for about 6 weeks. If he comes back after exactly 6 weeks...there will be 3 regular season games left for his LA Galaxy team. In other words, it would not be surprising to anyone if he doesn't play again this season, meaning that he was paid $6.5 million to play 310 minutes in 6 games. That's a darn good hourly rate, huh?!
But the league can't complain too much. Even not playing, Beckham's been good for the league financially: since his arrival, soccer merchandise sales have skyrocketed by 300% league-wide and by 700% for the Galaxy, and games against the Galaxy have been selling out around the country and the world.
