Michael Jackson’s greatest scandals ever
Michael Jackson was once one of the world’s most successful popstars, but after a string of serious scandals, the King of Pop has been dethroned.
Cosmetic Surgery: In 1979, Jackson fell and broke his nose during a performance. Many believe that he used this as an excuse to get a nose job. In 1993, the popstar stated that he had only had two cosmetic operations – on his nose and chin – done, for medical reasons. His extreme physical transformation suggests that he’s had more than just two, however…
The Crotch Grab: The racy dance move became Jackson’s trademark in the 80s. The move is commonly seen in today’s music video but at the time, Jackson’s crotch grabbing shocked the world.
Little Boys: In 1993, Jackson was first accused of having sex with a 13-year-old boy and had to break off his tour to deal with the scandal. The case was settled out of court, and lawyers concluded that Jackson could not be prosecuted without an official complaint from the victim. Still, rumours of Jackson's child molestation continued to circulate.
Neverland: In 1988, Jackson purchased a 1,000 hectare ranch for $20 million. 'Neverland', as he named his new property, included a zoo and amusement park. In November 2006, California officials shut down 'Neverland' because the zoo animals were improperly cared for and Jackson hadn't paid his employees' insurance. The animals are now in the hands of caretakers.
Financial Problems: He used to be one of the world’s richest popstars, reportedly worth several hundred million dollars in the 1990s. But in the autumn of 2007, Jackson’s debt was reported to be more than €15 million. Bad management, an extravagant lifestyle and numerous court cases are believed to be the reason for his financial trouble. The Jacksons To Be Honored At Urban Music Awards
In the tradition of James Brown, Isaac Hayes, Little Richard and others, The Jacksons will be this year's recipient of the BMI Icon Award at this year's Urban Music Awards. The awards will be held September 4th at The Wilshire Theatre in Beverly Hills, California.
The award will be presented by BMI's President and CEO Del Bryant and VP Catharine Brewton. The presentation will be followed by an all-star medley of Jackson hits performed by various inspired artists and legacy acts.

It looks like Wacko is back in the studio to record a new album, but rumour has it that New Kids on the Block will be collaborating. His recent stint in a wheel chair might suggest he's not quite up to making a new masterpiece just yet.

White Glove Tracking
On May 4th, 2007, we asked internet users to help isolate Michael Jackson's white glove in all 10,060 frames of his nationally televised landmark performance of Billy Jean. 72 hours later 125,000 gloves had been located. wgt_data_v1.txt (listed below) is the culmination of data collected. It is released here for all to download and use as an input into any digital system. Just as the data was gathered collectively it is our hope that it will be visualized collectively. Please email links to your apps, video, source code, and/or screen shots to evan[at]eyebeam[dot]org. Work will be exhibited in an online gallery and depending on popularity and interest potentially in a forthcoming physical gallery exhibition as well. Huge thanks to everyone that contributed to the data collection.

Neverland Ranch, The Casino?
Michael Jackson used to be one of the funkiest dudes on the planet. Then he became one of the weirdest.
So weird, in fact, that he had to ditch his home, also known as the Neverland Ranch theme park, and hightail it to Bahrain after molestation charges dogged him wherever he went in the United States.
It didn't help that he was annually blowing $30 million more than he took in, a crappy financial arrangement that eventually landed Neverland Ranch on the foreclosure list. But thanks to a stay of economic execution at the hands of Colony Capital Group, Neverland Ranch may skip the firing squad to live another day.
