Row over Lindsay Lohan gay remark
Actress Lindsay Lohan has hit out at the Los Angeles police chief after he said the star had "gone gay".
"Police chiefs shouldn't get involved in everyone else's business when it comes to their personal life. It's inappropriate," Lohan said. Chief William Bratton made the remark while explaining why he did not support a crackdown on the paparazzi.
Lohan, the star of Mean Girls and Freaky Friday, has been linked with DJ Mark Ronson's sister Samantha.
The police chief was discussing problems with the paparazzi on LA news channel KNBC.
He said: "If you notice, since Britney started wearing clothes and behaving, Paris is out of town not bothering anybody, thank God, and evidently, Lindsay Lohan has gone gay, we don't seem to have much of an issue."
Chief Bratton had earlier refused to attend a Los Angeles city task force meeting to discuss ways to combat the paparazzi. Lohan gave her response in a video filmed by paparazzi and posted on celebrity website TMZ. Her publicist Leslie Sloane has previously denied that the actress is in a relationship with Samantha Ronson, but said they were "close friends". L.A. police chief disses proposed 'Britney Law'
LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- The sponsor of a proposal to rein in aggressive celebrity photographers is meeting resistance from Los Angeles' top cop, who says the law is not needed when celebrities just behave.
City Councilman Dennis Zine wants to require photographers to stay a safe distance from celebrities.
His proposed ordinance is nicknamed the "Britney Law" for the hordes of paparazzi that swarm around pop star Britney Spears, sometimes costing the city thousands of dollars for escorts and other enforcement.
"They act like a pack of wolves stalking their prey, creating havoc in the streets, and are nuisances to innocent bystanders," Zine said at a task force hearing he convened Thursday.
The proposal gained exposure last month when officials from around Southern California asked former independent counsel Kenneth Starr -- whose investigation of former President Clinton spawned its own share of tabloid headlines -- to help craft a law that would protect celebrities without infringing on freedom of the press.
Critics of the plan include Los Angeles Police Chief William Bratton, who argues that it would be difficult to enforce. He also says existing laws can keep unruly packs of photographers in check.
The chief said the city's tabloid darlings could help by providing photographers less to work with.
"If celebrities behave themselves, that solves about 90 percent of the problem," Bratton said. "Britney, the last couple of days, has started wearing clothes again. The paparazzi are leaving town because she's not as interesting when she's not running around without her underwear on."
He said actress Lindsay Lohan "evidently found a new love life, so she's probably in New York hanging out" and that "God knows" where billionaire heiress Paris Hilton had been.
"She's thankfully disappeared from the scene," Bratton said.

Halle Berry files criminal complaint against paparazzi
Halle Berry has filed a criminal complaint against a paparazzi photographer who conducted a “very blatant and invasive tresspass,” her attorney said Friday (July 25).
Photos of Berry and her four-month-old daughter, Nahla Ariela Aubry, circulated on the net and were published in Life & Style and In Touch magazines, claiming the photos were taken while she was “out and about in Los Angeles.”
Berry released a statement to The Associated Press saying, “The paparazzi have gone too far. [Gabriel] and I have always remained that we would never sell baby photos or otherwise exploit her in any way.

Camo-Clad Paparazzi Duke It Out With Brad Pitt's Bodyguards
It sounds like a scene from "Fight Club."
French police say camouflaged paparazzi who got on to the grounds of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's chateau in southern France fought with the Hollywood couple's guards.
Police spokeswoman Capt. Olivia Poupot said Friday the two photographers were wearing camouflage clothes. She said police officers took them and the two guards in for questioning after Thursday's bust-up at the Jolie-Pitt family's Miraval estate.
The police captain said both sides filed legal complaints accusing the other of battery and causing injury. She said she believed the injuries were bruises and scratches and "nothing nasty."
Nevertheless, the guards got doctors' notes giving them four days off work; the photographers did not, she said.
Jolie returned to the estate after the July 12 birth of her twins, Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline, in the Mediterranean city of Nice, about 60 miles away.
Poupot said she didn't know how long the paparazzi had been on the chateau grounds or further details about the "altercation with the guards."
"One can imagine that if you discover someone in your garden who is taking your photo then you're not necessarily going to politely show them the way out," she said.
Police took everyone downtown to the nearby village of Carces and took statements. A judge will rule on whether the legal complaints should be pursued further, she said.
Poupot said it was the first time the chateau has called on police to intervene since the Jolie-Pitts settled there earlier this year, ahead of the twins' birth.
The police captain said she had no information on the nationalities or the names of the photographers.
"I won't hide for you that this kind of thing is really not the type of problem that interests us," she said. "There are, in my opinion, far more important things than paparazzi taking photos of a glamor couple." It sounds like a scene from "Fight Club." ... more -
Brad Pitt threatens legal action over family photos
Lawyers for Brad Pitt threatened legal action against anyone publishing recent photographs taken by paparazzi of the actor and his family at their French estate.
Pictures of the Pitt-Jolie family in France were snapped using a powerful telephoto lens and sold to an anonymous buyer. According to Pitt's lawyer, Yael Holtkamp, the taking of the photos was a "malicious violation" of the actor's privacy rights under both French and California law. Several celebrity Web sites that had links to the pictures had removed them by late on Thursday.
