    • KANYE WEST - WEST 'EMBODIES' AMERICAN PSYCHO BATEMAN FOR NEW PROMO

Rapper KANYE WEST drew inspiration for his new video LOVE LOCKDOWN from CHRISTIAN BALE's killer character in 2000 thriller AMERICAN PSYCHO.
The Stronger hitmaker unveiled the promo for the new single - on which he sings all the way through - on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Tuesday (07Oct08).
And West admitted that he based parts of his musical creation on the 1980s Wall Street murderer Patrick Bateman that Bale portrays in the big-screen adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis' novel.
He told chatshow host DeGeneres, "On this album, I kind of embody Patrick Bateman from American Psycho.
"You know at the end of the movie (that) he didn't really kill anyone. (I just liked) the clean aesthetic and the way he was all about labels. I wanted to express all of that in the video."
The hip-hop star also revealed his forthcoming album 808s and Heartbreak will be something of a departure from his usual style.
He added, "I had all these ideas and I just needed to get it out as an artistic vision. I don't have a rapper's name, (but) I have really good taste and anyone who likes it probably has really good taste too."
808s and Heartbreak is due to be released in the U.S. on 25 November (08) - three weeks earlier than originally planned.

    • Kanye West Reveals '808s And Heartbreak' Release Date During Surprise Ap...

"November something" now has an official number: November 25. On Friday night in Los Angeles, Kanye West announced the exact release date of his new album, 808s and Heartbreak, when he appeared as a special guest during T.I.'s MySpace concert at the Key Club.

West came out and surprised the audience, performing "Swagger Like Us" with Tip. The King of the South then turned the stage over to Kanye's command, and the Chicago native went into the first verse of "Love Lockdown."

"I just pushed my album up to November 25," he told the audience. "We just finished the album. I just got back from Hawaii earlier today."

West followed with a piece of what he's called the album's second single, "Heartless," part of which he debuted in August during the ONE Campaign concert at the Democratic National Convention in Denver.

"A woman so heartless/ How could you be so heartless?" he sings in the hook. Then he raps: "There's a whole bunch of sh-- you ain't told me/ Yeah, I did some things, but that's the old me ... You got new friends. / Well, I got homies/ But in the end it's still so lonely."

On Friday morning before the show, Kanye's patience was tested in another encounter with a member of the paparazzi at LAX airport, according to a video posted on E! Online. In the video, the cameraman repeatedly asks West if he wants to apologize for his recent run-in with a pap at LAX. After mutely staring at the cameraman for a while, 'Ye finally says, "I'm gonna ask you as a man to leave me alone."

    • Kanye Reveals Next Single

Mr. West is in the building.

Kanye West revealed that his next single off of the upcoming 808s and Heartbreak will be called "Heartless," a track that the public has yet to hear.

The rapper made the announcement (along with the announcement that his album will be released on November 25) during a TI show put on by MySpace, according to Billboard.

The release of West's album was pushed up a week and a half ago because West felt like it. At least that's the story that Kanye wrote in his blog.

The more realistic reason, it seems (considering the world of record labels, mass production of the album and everything else that goes into producing an album) is to avoid a clash between West and 50 Cent, who has kept the release date of Before I Self-Destruct as December 12.

    • Rapper Pharrell Williams joins Madonna gig

Rap star Pharrell Williams has made a surprise appearance with Madonna in a New York date on her world tour.

Williams, who co-produced and sang on Madonna's Hard Candy album earlier this year, joined her on stage during her final song of the show - Give It 2 Me.

Madonna also continued her recent attacks on Republican vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin.

Playing a screeching note on her guitar, she said: "This is the sound of Sarah Palin thinking."

After singing an a capella version of her 1989 hit Express Yourself, she told the crowd: "I'd like to express myself to Sarah Palin right now."

She also threw condoms into the crowd at Madison Square Garden, saying that they promoted safe sex as they had a picture of Mrs Palin on them.

The anti-Republican barbs came a few days after Madonna told another concert audience: "Sarah Palin can't come to my party. Sarah Palin can't come to my show. It's nothing personal."

Throughout the tour, which started in Cardiff on 23 August, Madonna had stoked political controversy with one video segment which splices an image of Republican presidential nominee John McCain among those of Adolf Hitler, Robert Mugabe and scenes of destruction and starving children.

A spokesman for Mr McCain's campaign has called Madonna's actions "outrageous, unacceptable and crudely divisive all at the same time".

      'Beautiful Lola'

Pharrell Williams has appeared on the Sticky and Sweet tour before, but only in video form.

During previous dates, he and Madonna's other recent collaborators - Justin Timberlake, Kanye West and Britney Spears - have "performed" in the show as lifesize images on moving video walls.

At the New York show - the 21st date on the four-month world tour - there was a more tender moment as Madonna dedicated a song to her eldest daughter Lourdes to mark her 12th birthday.

She performed You Must Love Me, which she originally sang when she starred in the 1996 movie adaptation of the hit musical Evita. Madonna told the crowd: "My beautiful Lola is 12 today but when I first sang this song she was growing inside me."

    • Kanye West Urges Fans To 'Be Accepting Of Different People' -- And Soulj...

NEW YORK — It's Kanye Kammentary! The Chicago-bred superstar showed on Tuesday night that his voice is equally as captivating backed by music as it is without it. In fact, he doesn't even have to rhyme. Days after his Lollapalooza appearance, West was back on his Glow in the Dark Tour and finished his show at New York's Madison Square Garden with a speech about negative stereotypes and the need for diversity in hip-hop.

'Ye started off giving props to Nas for his amazing achievements on the mic.

"Nas is the only MC of my generation — maybe Rakim, but he was the generation before me — Nas was the most respected MC in every genre of rap. N---a, he could do a song with Puffy or Wu-Tang."

Kanye then moved his analysis of hip-hop to the subject of Soulja Boy Tell'em, saying that the teen should be respected for not only making his own beats, but giving the people fun choruses, reminiscent of the hip-hop of yesteryear.

"How is Soulja Boy killing hip-hop?" Kanye asked, as some fans booed. "He had one of the biggest songs of the summer. If anything, he's helping keep it alive. You don't have to be Lil Wayne in order for people to say your sh-- is fresh.

"Open y'all's f---in' minds," said West, who recently teamed up with MTV and put his outspoken nature to use helping veterans. "Be accepting of different people. Let people be who they are."

He went from music to society in general, complaining that he's been outcast for some of his beliefs.

"You know how many people came at me, calling me 'gay' cause I wear my jeans the fresh way?" he said to the audience. "Or 'cause I said, 'Hey, dude, how y'all gonna say 'f--' right in front of a gay dude's face and act like that's OK?' That sh-- is disrespectful.

"It took me time to break out of the mental prisons I was in," West added. "The stereotypes of the fear of the backlash that I would get for believing in what I believe in, for accepting people for who they are."

Before he sent everyone home, West also took the opportunity to tell the people that he's one of the kings of the stage right now.

"Thank y'all for listening to me," the music icon said. "I had a few things to get off my chest. I want y'all to handle the rest. New York City, good night."

    • Kanye West's New Album, 808's and Heartbreak, Apparently Slated For Dece...

After premiering his new song "Love Lockdown," at the VMAs on Sunday Kanye West may be capitalizing on the song's instant acclaim. The track is rumored to be on the new LP that interview-shy West has been keeping mum about, but a title and release date for the LP were listed on Amazon.com and Target.com Wednesday (September 10). The retail sites have posted presale info for 808's & Heartbreak, listing a sale price of $13.98 and release date of December 16. At press time, a spokesperson for Def Jam could not be reached for confirmation or further comment.

(On Wednesday, Kanye posted an MP3 and single artwork for the song on his blog.)

West sang "Love Lockdown" again on Tuesday night, to a much smaller crowd at New York's Knitting Factory, in a surprise set of classics and fresh-off-the-press bangers. He performed "Flashing Lights," "Swagger Like Us," "Put On" and "Can't Tell Me Nothing" in the intimate club, where the lineup featured Q-Tip and artists from 'Ye's G.O.O.D. Music record label, including Consequence and G.L.C.

In a recent interview with MTV News, T-Pain said he's been "going back and forth" with West in the studio over the past couple of months, but there is no confirmation that any of Pain's work will appear on Kanye's album.

"He'll call me to his room; I'll do a hook for him," T-Pain said. "I'll go back down, probably make a couple beats. I'll call him down: 'Yo, do a verse for me real quick.' He'll go back up; he'll make something, call me back up."

Besides working on his next LP, West has been producing Jay-Z's Blueprint 3 — which the pair premiered a track from at Kanye's Madison Square Garden show last month — and he appears on upcoming LPs by T-Pain (Thr33 Ringz), DJ Khaled (We Global) and T.I. (Paper Trail).

Manchester rockers Elbow have taken this year's prestigious Mercury Music Prize with their fourth album, 'The Seldom Seen Kid,' blowing the bookies' favourites out of the water in true Mercury Music prize style.

And, if that wasn't exciting enough, Daivd Byrne will be touring in September playing material from all of he and Eno's collaborations, which includes 3 of the strongest Talking Heads albums and their early eighties collab, My Life in the Bush of Ghosts. Incredible music. I'm effing psyched.

    • SCI-FI SONGS, the most original and exciting music release in 2008

JASON SERENO IS PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THE RELEASE OF SCI-FI SONGS, AN OUT-OF-THIS WORLD DIGITAL MIXTAPE FEATURING FOUR SONGS WITH SCIENCE-FICTION THEMES.

Los Angeles, Calif. - July 1st, 2008 - Singer/Songwriter Jason Sereno has released a concept album that is truly out of this world. SCI-FI SONGS, landing July 1st, 2008 at JasonSereno.com, is a digital mixtape with science-fiction-styled music tied together through a common narrative, inspired by unsuccessful rock operas of 1970s.

Sereno, an acoustically-minded musician with a background in comedy and vaudeville-like performances, thought of the concept after a night of binge drinking.

"I was walking to the bathroom at about 3AM," Sereno hastily recounted. "I couldn't even see straight but this idea popped in my head, so I ran back in the bedroom and asked one of the girls to write it down for me. Thankfully Sharon - or maybe Brenda - listened. For once."

Sereno also enjoys multiple partners in the recording studio, which is why he enlisted the help of longtime friend and fellow axe-wielder T-Dogg for the SCI-FI songwriting process.

"T-Dogg was crucial in the creation of the storylines and lyrics for SCI-FI SONGS," Sereno begrudgingly admitted. "He was the one who suggested we utilize the guitar as the focal point for the album instead of synths and drum machines. Too bad he won't see a dime from the record sales because nothing in our agreement was ever in writing. Dumbass."

Rounding out the group is Cremer, Hollywood 's premier voiceover actor and narrator of the album.

"Cremer's talent is truly unmatched," Sereno fondly recalled. "He added so much to the project that I couldn't imagine SCI-FI SONGS without him, but he won't be receiving any monetary compensation either. Once again - nothing in writing. Duh."

      SCI-FI SONGS consists of:

RocketShip Guitar: A boy receives a guitar from his birthday but when he plugs in the instrument it transforms into a rocketship that takes him on an intergalactic journey.

Dimensions: The party started in the first dimension. But things get weirder… er.

TimeTraveler Love Song: A time traveler finds the love us his life… but when he travels back to meet the woman of his dreams he can only speak in Spanglish - an unfortunate side-effect of time travel.

CarPlanes: In the future… there are no cars. There are no planes. There are only CarPlanes.

Cremer's Promos: An incredible assortment of inappropriate radio commercials (bonus track).

Although the recordings are meant to be heard sequentially - at least the first time - Sereno insists every tune is exceptional in its own right because of the combinations of style, substance and tone within each track.

"I’m really friggin' proud of the music we've put together," Sereno boasted. "We have full-on guitar solos, insane effects, gripping lyrics, influences from rock, punk, hip-hop and latin styles, as well as a complete storyline that is far more epic and moving than any post-apocalyptic Kevin Costner film."

Sereno is confident that the SCI-FI SONGS team's hard work will pay off - at least for him - because the album speaks to an untapped audience in today's music market.

"No longer will the nerds of the world be forced to stay home on Friday night to watch reruns of Battlestar Galactica," Sereno proclaimed. "They now have a voice. They have a rhythm in their hearts. They have SCI-FI SONGS."
