Ravers lose sight at laser show
Since the Aquamarine Open Air Festival in Kirzhach, dozens of partygoers have been checking into Moscow's hospital complaining of eye and vision problems.
"They all have retinal burns, scarring is visible on them," Kommersant newspaper quotes one health official as saying.
"Loss of vision in individual cases is as high as 80% and regaining it is already impossible," the opthalmologist said.
Heavy rains meant organisers were forced to erect massive tents for the all-night dance party, and lasers that normally illuminate upwards into the sky were instead shone into the ravers' eyes.
"I immediately had a spot like when you stare into the sun," raver Dmitry told Kommersant.
"After three days I decided to go to the hospital. They examined me, asked if I had been at Open Air, and then put me straight in the hospital. I didn't even get to go home and get my stuff," he said.
Industry website www.laserfx.com said focused laser light can cause eye damage almost instantly.
The owner of a Moscow laser rental company said the accidental blindings were due to "illiteracy on the part of technicians".
"It was partly the rain, but also partly the size of the laser," said Valentin Vasiliev.
"Somebody set up an extremely powerful laser for such a small space," he added.
Mr Vasiliev said his company did not provide the Aquamarine lasers. Since the Aquamarine Open Air Festival in Kirzhach, dozens of partygoers have been checking into Moscow's hospital complaining of eye ... more -

Silent rave New York
The prospect of raving like you really don't care about what other people think, with thousands of fellow dancers, is a bloody brilliant one I think you'll agree!
After the traditional huge 10 second countdown everyone RAVE and DISCO till your legs fall off or your iPod battery runs out! (Trust me I've gone for over four hours before, those buggers have long battery lives!)
Anyway - keep inviting! Lets get this above 2000 before the day arrives!
Rave is from 6:15-11pm.
PS. Any photographers/film makers etc. are very welcome to come too! The London raves always have bloody loads of journalists and no-one minds, as long as you post your work for us to see afterwards!

A Letter to Bookstore Patrons Concerning Courtesy
Dear Stupid, Cheap, Small-Handed, Chimp-Faced, Simpletons,
I write you today to discuss one of the last few places that I actually enjoy shopping, the bookstore. Any multimillion dollar, built-in-a-day, same-across-America bookstore, where everything is brown, piano music is playing, and coffee shop is included.
Picture yours now for me. Is your local text peddler dancing vividly in your mind?
Good. Let's take a little mental tour, now, to a special little spot in the store. Dear Stupid, Cheap, Small-Handed, Chimp-Faced, Simpletons, ... more -

Bicycle pump, big ball and picking mushrooms/apples, some of my personal faves! I'm not so sure about ping pong. That's just weird.
