    • Yet Another Smiths Compilation

From the report: There's another Smiths greatest-hits album in the works; we'd say something about painting a vulgar picture, but that joke isn't funny anymore.

Kill the DJ: The Very Best of The Smiths arrives Oct. 7 from Rhino Records. It's the fifth greatest-hits disc from the indie-rock groundbreakers, who, oddly, only put out four studio albums. We'll leave it up to fans to decide if it's better than The Best of The Smiths, Vol. 1, The Best of The Smiths, Vol. 2, Singles or The Very Best of The Smiths.

Super-fans also have the option to buy it as a two-disc deluxe edition. The expanded set includes B-sides and oddities. The Smiths have only managed to mine that territory for a mere three compilations before this, Hatful of Hollow, The World Won't Listen and Louder Than Bombs. See why that joke isn't funny anymore?

Kill the DJ: The Very Best of The Smiths' track listing is:

      Disc One:
      Hand In Glove
      Reel Around The Fountain
      This Charming Man
      What Difference Does It Make
      Still Ill
      Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now
      William, It Was Really Nothing
      How Soon Is Now?
      Shakespeare's Sister
      Barbarism Begins At Home
      That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore
      The Headmaster Ritual
The Boy With The Thorn In His Side
      Bigmouth Strikes Again
There Is A Light That Never Goes Out
      Panic
      Ask
You Just Haven't Earned It Yet Baby
      Shoplifters Of The World Unite
      Sheila Take A Bow
      Girlfriend In A Coma
      I Started Something I Couldn't Finish
Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me

      Disc Two:
      Handsome Devil (live)
      Jeane
This Charming Man (New York vocal)
      Back To The Old House
      These Things Take Time
      Girl Afraid
Please, Please Please Let Me Get What I Want
      Oscillate Wildly
      Stretch Out And Wait
      Meat Is Murder (live)
      Asleep
      Money Changes Everything
      The Queen Is Dead
      Vicar In A Tutu
      Cemetry Gates
      Half A Person
      Sweet And Tender Hooligan
      I Keep Mine Hidden
Pretty Girls Make Graves (Troy Tate version)
Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before
      What's The World (live)

I'm kind of excited about the second discs' live recordings, but that's about it.

    • Footloose album in a whole new light

Doveman, aka Thomas Bartlett, has made a cover of the Footloose album in its entirety. But it won't have you kicking off your blue suede shoes. It's a hushed take on the 80s soundtrack inspired by quite a sad story. Bartlett's friend lost his sister about 20 years ago and he only knew her by her possessions. He was going through her things and found her Footloose tape. So he gave the lyrics to Bartlett (who had never heard any of the songs, apparently) and had him re-interpret the entire soundtrack to help him deal with his grief. What the two created is a masterpiece, in my opinion. You'll never listen to these songs the same way again. Doveman, aka Thomas Bartlett, has made a cover of the Footloose album in its entirety. • Rape of Love

Not wanting to be outdone by his band mate Brett Michaels, Poison drummer Rikki Rockett has finally found himself back in the spotlight. Only this time, its not in the best light. Rockett was arrested yesterday in Los Angeles on an outstanding warrant for allegedly raping someone in Mississippi. As shocking as it may be that a person wouldn’t want to have consensual sex with this aging, so-very-awesomely-named drummer for an 80’s hair band, Rikki Rapestt deserves whatever punishment is headed his way, if for no other reason than my having to look at this photo and imagine the nightmare scenario of him trying to drunkenly thrust himself upon somebody whilst slurring, “Come on, honey! I did the beats for ‘Every Rose Has Its Thorn’.” Not wanting to be outdone by his band mate Brett Michaels, Poison drummer Rikki Rockett has finally found himself back in the spotligh... more

    • Condoms, different yet the same

This is interesting because it merges the two greatest inventions I have been aquainted with in 39 years: 80's music and condoms. Plus it is kinda informative.
