    • Manchester United complete Berbatov switch

Manchester United have signed Bulgaria striker Dimitar Berbatov from Tottenham in a deal worth £30.75m.

The deal sees Fraizer Campbell going the other way on a season long loan.

Spurs also announced they will not pursue their official complaint to the Premier League which accused United of pursuing 27-year-old Berbatov.

"Joining United is a dream come true for me - I look forward to playing my part in helping this club win more honours," he told the club website.

Old Trafford manager Sir Alex Ferguson added: "This is a key signing. Dimitar is one of the best and most exciting strikers in world football.

"His style and ability will give the team a different dimension and I'm sure he will be a popular player with the fans."

The capture ends a summer-long saga that took a dramatic twist on transfer deadline day.

Earlier on Monday, it appeared rivals Manchester City were going to shatter United's hopes after they had a bid of more than £30m accepted by Spurs.

    • Bayern Munich set to beat Man U to Berbatov deal!

Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov could be set for a shock move to Bayern Munich, according to BILD sources in England.

The Bulgarian (28) has been the subject of constant transfer rumours this summer, with Manchester United the only possible destination so far.

But new evidence suggests that Bayern are keen on the player, and could swoop in and use Spurs' hostility towards last season's Champions League winners to take him from under their noses.

Will Bayern snatch Berbatov from Manchester United?

    • Saudi telecom firm in sponsorship deal with Man United //hamropalo

Saudi Arabia's leading telecommunication services provider Saudi Telecom has entered into a five-year sponsorship deal with European and English Premier League Champions Manchester United.

'We are absolutely thrilled to be playing ball with Manchester United,' said Muhammad Al-Jasser, chairman of Saudi Telecom.

'The partnership will significantly raise STC's (Saudi Telecommunications Company) global profile since the club has a huge fan base throughout the world and a strong following among football fans throughout the Middle East and especially in Saudi Arabia,' he added.

Though the company did not mention the amount of the deal, reports in the British media put it at around Euro 10 million ($18.7 million).

Giving other details of the deal, Al-Jasser said that Saudi Telecom would have presence inside Manchester United Football Club's (MUFC) 70,000-capacity stadium in Old Trafford and would be featured on the club's website.

'In addition, STC will be conducting prize draws in which the winners can attend key Man U matches and also, the club will send four emails a year to registered fans in the region,' he said.

'Furthermore, under the terms of the agreement, each year 70 Saudi students will have the opportunity to go for a period of training at the Manchester United Academy, one of the world's most prestigious football training centres.

As for the marketing aspects of the deal, Al-Jasser said the telecom operator would work 'closely with a specialist marketing team from MUFC to develop innovative ideas to support the partnership'.

'As an example of what's to come, in line with the popular trend in cellphones, STC is already in the process of creating and activating a Manchester United mobile,' he said.

Expressing delight at the new agreement, Manchester United chief executive David Gill said: 'This historic deal will give Saudi Telecom exclusive rights as the official mobile communications partner of Manchester United in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with access to unique mobile phone content, including player interviews, goal replays and match reports.

    • Man Utd player in £4.5m payout

Imagine you a starting your career in a highly lucrative industry. You've just been promoted to the reserves and are on the verge of becoming part of the elite. Then in your first game for the reserves, aged 18 you suffer a horror tackle that breaks your leg in 2 places and means you can never play again!

Whilst the payout appears huge it represents the shattered dreams of Ben Collett who worked hard to achieve his dream and had it snatched away from him.

    • Ronaldo wants to play for Real Madrid...doesn't everybody?

If Ronaldo's exact quote on the matter is: 'I want to play for Real Madrid, but only if it is true they are eager to pay me and Manchester United what they have been saying they will', it's like asking someone if they wanted to win the lottery for a second time. I can't imagine anyone would begrudge a first win, and certainly not a second - it isn't greed, it's human nature. But Ronaldo is repeatedly asked the same questions and can only give so many answers.

He's said on more than one occasion that he does not want to leave Man Utd, yet the media likes to focus on the more ambiguous comments such as these. Man Utd will want to keep Ronaldo at the club for many years - hence the multi-year contract he's currently on. Why sell another player in his prime to Real Madrid? They've done it twice before - Van Nistlerooy and Beckham, but both lost the respect of Alex Ferguson. If Ronaldo is still on good terms with manager, he's going nowhere this summer.

    • Ronaldo's off to Madrid then?

Speculation has again begun after Christian Ronaldo apparently told his manager that he's ready for a move to Spain with a deal already outlined to Real Madrid at £150,000 a week after tax.

He has said that he will speak to the media on Friday and it's expected that he will announce his intentions then.

Take note Ronaldo, for £150,000 a week, Real fans will expect all penalties in important cup finals to go in. And a move to the US afterwards is not advisable..

    • Mancester United win the Champions League

Manchester United won the Champions League after beating Chelsea 6-5 on penalties after a dramatic 1-1 draw.

Cristiano Ronaldo headed United in front after 26 minutes but Frank Lampard equalised before the interval.

Lampard and Didier Drogba hit the woodwork for Chelsea before the striker was sent off in extra-time for slapping United defender Nemanja Vidic.

Ronaldo missed his penalty for United, but John Terry hit the post and Edwin van der Sar saved from Nicolas Anelka.

It sparked wild celebrations for Sir Alex Ferguson and his players in the Moscow rain as United lifted Europe's major club trophy 50 years on from the Munich air crash and repeated their previous successes in 1968 and 1999.

Chelsea captain Terry had to be consoled by boss Avram Grant as he broke down in tears after missing the penalty that would have given his side the trophy.

He slipped in his run-up on turf made treacherous by a torrential downpour and sent his kick against the upright.

    • Man. Utd crowned champions of Europe

Manchester United have won the UEFA Champions League after an epic red vs. blue penalty shootout following a tense 1-1 game.

Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring for Man Utd with a neatly headed ball in to the far corner, followed by a Frank Lampard equallser on the stroke of half-time slotting it past Van der Saar.

Five minutes before the end of extra time, Didier Drogba got sent off for attempting a cheeky little slap on Man Utd's Vidic, a price that proved to be a costly mistake in the penalty shoot-out which saw Manchester United take it 6-5 in penalties.

    • Ronaldo set for Madrid switch after Champions League final

...or so Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon would have you believe after Ronaldo's ambiguous comment to a Spanish journalist when asked if he would leave Manchester United for Madrid. Ronaldo said: "Let's see what happens after the Champions League final.''

But this story comes up every year and like past seasons I think it's fair to say we can dismiss it as Calderon stirring the media pot and Ronaldo making ill-advised but innocent remarks. The fact remains that although the United star is under contract (not that that means much these days) United wouldn't sell him for anything less than a record fee surely too much even for Madrid. Second, there's simply no one out there to replace Ronaldo so why sell him for any kind of money, you wouldn't be able to buy anyone to fill the void he'd leave (namely 30-plus goals a season).

It's a story that will get United fans anxious, but it'll be the same next year too after Ronaldo has another exceptional year at Old Trafford.

    • United and Barca move towards clash

Manchester United beat Roma 2-0 away and Barcelona won 1-0 at Schalke in their Champions League quarter-final, first-leg matches on Tuesday to take big steps towards a semi-final showdown.

Goals by Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney either side of halftime gave United victory at the Stadio Olimpico as the English champions continued to torment Roma.

Alex Ferguson`s side have beaten their Italian rivals in three of their last four matches and appear set to send them packing from Europe`s premier club competition again after an 8-3 aggregate drubbing at the same stage last season.

United won the second leg of that contest 7-1 and only an unlikely slip-up in the second leg at Old Trafford will prevent them from reaching their second successive semi-final.

If they do meet Barcelona it would renew an old rivalry for United who beat the Catalan side 2-1 in the 1991 European Cup Winners` Cup final and fought out two enthralling 3-3 draws in the group stage of their 1999 Champions League triumph.

Ronaldo headed United into a 39th minute-lead at the Stadio Olimpico on Tuesday with his 36th goal of the season in all competitions and Rooney sealed the win midway through the second half when he scrambled home a loose ball from close range.

United weathered an early second half onslaught but could have won by a bigger margin after Ronaldo shaved the post and Michael Carrick came close with a curling low drive.

Ferguson, though, said the victory was far from comfortable.

“It`s a very good team we played against of course. We had to defend really well at times,” he told reporters.

From the Telegraph. I rearranged some paragraphs. I think its a little more entertaining this way.

"Mr Obama has joined a host of world figures to nail their colours to the mast by revealing his passion for his adopted club."

"First there was Osama bin Laden's association with Arsenal, which led to the north Londoners reportedly banning the terrorist from attending any future games."

"According to reports, the US senator has been a fan of the Hammers ever since a trip to England five years ago and watches Premier League games whenever his busy schedule allows."

"Obama's revelation could stir up tensions with Democrat rival Hillary Clinton further as the 60-year-old and her husband Bill are keen Manchester United followers."

    • Manchester United's tragedy: 50 years on

Today marks the 50th anniversary of a disaster that shocked the world and caused heartbreak within one of football's finest teams.

Manchester United, or The Busby Babes as manager Matt Busby's youthful team were known, were the all-conquering champions of late-1950s football. On February 6th 1958, the team's plane plunged off the end of a Munich runway, killing 23 of the 48 passengers, including eight United players, the oldest of whom was just 28.

Along with other England players, footballing legend Bobby Charlton was one of the survivors of the accident. Recently he gave a speech about the tragedy to today's Man Utd squad, who sat in complete silence as he showed a DVD about the event and talked them through the disaster and how the team came back to win the European Cup ten years later.

Club captain Gary Neville said reliving the moment was a special occasion for the team: "It was moving. These guys are mythical figures to us, the Busby Babes and Sir Matt. Growing up as a Man Utd fan, you sing songs about them, you are aware of the statues and memorials around the ground."

On Saturday, Manchester United will face local rivals Manchester City at Old Trafford. The United team have been given special permission to wear a replica of the 1958 kit with no names or logos on it. There will also be a minute's silence before kick-off.

It has emerged that Manchester Police are allegedly investigating claims that a woman was raped at the Great John Street Hotel in Manchester.

The whole team of players, except Cristiano Ronaldo, attended the Christmas Party. No direct links have been forged between the incident and the Football Club, but as Manchester United officials still haven't given a statement, they're leaving themselves open to speculation.

Unfortunately, it's not the first time UK football stars have been involved in incidents like this - both Arsenal's Robin van Persie, and Cristiano Ronaldo have found themselves in the middle of a media frenzy.

    • This isn't American football ... it's football.

On the one hand I think it's awesome. Having been in the U.S. for seven years and only getting to watch a game lying on the sofa on a weekend morning, the idea of seeing the red scum (Manchester United) get their northern behinds spanked by my beloved Chelsea in amazing real-life-o-vision is more than appealing.

On the other hand I can't help but wonder if this means that we're going to see cheerleaders, ticker tape and some pop celebrity come on at half time to entertain us. America has already shown us that it is more interested in celebrity rather than the sport as is the case with the Beckham move.

No one here cares about football, right? So why bother putting two teams on a plane flying them across the pond for one game in the middle of the season. The top flight teams have enough on their plate with, ... well, let's see, the Premiership, the Champions League, Carling Cup and of course, the F.A. Cup. They don't even get a break at Christmas let alone time off to play a game in a country that couldn't care less.

It seems to me that this is a case of greedy foreign investors thinking about their pockets and pretending to promote the game. My point is that just because the NFL is doing it, it doesn't mean that we should.
