We Run This - Anonymous' latest video to scientology
This is becoming much more than a game, this is generation internet coming to realise how much influence they can have if they just get creative and brand themselves. What started out with a creepy video has developed into a fully recognisable identity that anyone can be a part of by putting on the mask.
Some have tired of the crusade against Scientology, which I could agree with, but the reason I think this whole thing has kept on going is because the concept of anonymous and the voice they've made for themselves fascinates people. Scientology fights critics with 4,000 YouTube video takedown notices
A huge trove of critical videos of Scientology was targeted for takedown late last week by a group called American Rights Counsel. The group sent more than 4,000 DMCA takedown notices to YouTube and claimed that every video infringed on its copyrights.
Those who take on the notoriously litigious "church" of Scientology—including groups like "Anonymous" ( http://www.whyweprotest.net ) know what they're up against and are willing to take action to keep their messages up. It appears that most of the pulled content has been reinstated already after the various uploaders filed DMCA counter-notices asserting that the videos in question did not infringe copyright.
The targets of the takedown action included everything from protest videos to Clearwater (Fla.) City Council hearings to German and Canadian news reports. This led YouTube users to rant in public forums about the "abuse" of YouTube's takedown system by American Rights Counsel, which even went after user-created videos. Scientology Facing Trial for Fraud in France
(Newser) – An imminent court case could lead to the Church of Scientology being banned in France, the BBC reports, with the controversial sect being accused of organized fraud by a former congregant. The woman claims she was suckered by the offer of a free personality test, and wound up spending more than $28,000 on books, illegally prescribed drugs, and other supplies.
The church calls the allegations “empty and concocted,” adding that woman had been reimbursed. The public prosecutor seemed to agree, asking that the case be shelved, but the judge ignored the request. Scientology has faced numerous such legal battles in France, which, like many European countries, refuses to recognize it as anything other than a commercial venture. Church of Scientology to be tried in France for fraud.
This is a good step forward. I know some "open minded" people on this website will say that it's a religion and people should be free to choose to believe what they want to believe. Google is pro-Scientology.
Ever wonder to yourself why Peter Letterse named Google in that $250 Million RICO Lawsuit against the Cult of Scientology? Here's why:
http://www.epicanon.com/showthread.php?t=727
"While going through our records recently, we found that your AdSense account has posed a significant risk to our AdWords advertisers. Since keeping your account in our publisher network may financially damage our advertisers in the future, we've decided to disable your account."
Once again, through Google AdSense, Scientology has manipulated Google into WITHDRAWING FINANCIAL SUPPORT from critic sites. The first large site affected by this was http://www.enturbulation.org/ which lost its google adsense account several months ago and now relies on user donations and a lesser known advertising site.
In the case of EpicAnon (the home site for TriState area Anonymous) the site's owner had learned from the mistakes of Enturbulation and blocked all known scientology sites from the page. (This prevents the cult from accusing said critic's site of "illegal click counts") It also keeps unwanted scientology ads off of the website.
However, Scientology.org and it's affiliates are constantly purchasing new webspace as well as new "keywords" from Google AdSense. They have purchased words like "Rick Astley" and "Anonymous" to trigger their ads and I personally know that until the account was disabled, we were still viewing scientology related ads on our site despite every effort to block them. All one has to do is see for yourself on Google or YouTube how many "Truth About Scientology" or "Dianetics" ads appear on pages seemingly unrelated to the topic.
Now, as a result of their actions, our site has been cut off from almost 80% of its funding, successfully removing it from existence or, in the best case scenario, hitting every one of its members in the wallet to keep the site up.
What does this all mean? It means that a fur trading company can buy the key words "animal cruelty" "abuse" and "PETA" and have THEIR ads appear on the websites of those critical of their business. Then, according to Google's "side with the rich guy" policy, PETA's website could lose all AdSense income if the fur trading company falsely complains about "click abuse". Even though PETA did nothing to violate the ToS.
It may sound like a paranoid plot at the moment, and trust me, I understand how this comes off. But know the truth before you judge someone. We're not accusing Google of trying to run the world or take over the internet. All we want are answers from their CEOs and an understanding of how much loyalty and trust they have in the very same people who built them up into the company they are today.
Eric Schmidt, why do you as a publically traded corporation consistently side on the richer end of a struggle instead of staying fair, non-biased and neutral as you claim to be? Your spokesperson once said:
"Google policy does not permit the advertisement of websites that contain abortion and religion-related content. We only allow ads that have factual information about abortion...We recognize that this is a very emotive subject that people have strong views on both sides. Google takes no view on this issue one way or the other as a company."
So tell me this: Is Scientology a religion or a business?
