    • Elton John and The Killers to release Christmas single?

If you're not a big fan of Christmas, then I'd stay well indoors this year, The Killers are rumoured to be teaming up with Elton John to release a seasonal single.

Apparently, nothing has been laid down on tape yet, but given a 'tentative title' of 'Joseph, Better You Than Me.'

I don't know whether to laugh or cry...

    • Elton John and Lily Allen: battle for the rehab queen?

I know, I know, we were also asking Lily who ... 'apparently she's one of the many UK singers two steps away from rehab's doorstep ...; making us wonder, what's up with the air over there that so many British entertainers are either drunk or doing doing drugs (check out the video).

"I'm not defending my drunkenness because I don't need to," says Allen. "I'm 23 it was an awards ceremony - I drank the free champagne, how awful of me." Um, yeah we kinda think she coulda saved getting smashed until after presenting her one award ... 'to avoid looking like a sloppy-wanker ..."

    • Elton John and Lily Allen clash at awards show

A visibly tipsy Lily Allen got into a profanity-laced verbal spat with Elton John onstage as the two hosted the GQ Men of the Year Awards in London Tuesday night.

As Allen introduced a segment as a "very special point in the evening," according to the The Times of London, John questioned: "What, you are going to have another drink?"

In front of an audience that included Gordon Ramsay, producer Mark Ronson (brother of Samantha) and London mayor Boris Johnson, the 23-year-old pop star shot back, "F--- off Elton, I'm 40 years younger than you. I have my whole life ahead of me." To which the 61-year-old John replied, "I could still snort you under the table."

Allen followed the exchange with a crude ad lib when 82-year-old Tony Bennett was presented with the night's Inspiration Award. As John introduced Bennett, pointing out his age, Allen broke in, declaring: "I'll still [have sex with] him."

    • Elton John was right: Mars ain’t the place to raise your kids

It was a sad day for little green men on July 14, 1965, when cameras aboard Mariner 4 took a series of photographs that dispelled at a stroke decades of speculation about life on the Red Planet.

The images, taken from 6,000 miles above the planet’s surface, forced writers and film-makers to abandon lurid tales of ancient Martian civilisations and concentrate instead on human attempts to settle on Mars.

It was an abrupt end to a canon of literature inspired by Giovanni Schiaparelli’s observation in 1877 that the Martian landscape appeared to be riven with channels, which authors interpreted as canals constructed by intelligent creatures.

      H. G. Wells created a hostile race of Martians who attempt to conquer the earth in War of the Worlds, published in 1898. Four decades later a radio adaptation featuring mock news broadcasts was so convincing that New Yorkers fled their homes in terror. Edgar Rice Burroughs, the author best known for creating Tarzan, portrayed Mars as a planet occupied by green men with four arms and red humanoid creatures in A Princess of Mars in 1911.

Before he created the Chronicles of Narnia, C. S. Lewis created Out of the Silent Planet, a story of several intelligent and peace-loving species living on a dying world.

Arthur C. Clarke and Isaac Asimov also wrote novels in the 1950s about hidden indigenous peoples of Mars.

Films included Robinson Crusoe on Mars in 1964, a reimagining of Daniel Defoe’s novel, and Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, also in 1964, a comedy often cited as the worst film ever made.

Mariner’s photographs and the Viking missions in the late 1970s caused authors to concentrate on human colonisation of the planet. Several American writers explored the possibility that settlers on Mars, like American colonists during the War of Independence, would seek independence from their imperial masters.

Kurt Vonnegut’s The Sirens of Titan, published in 1969, imagined a demagogue who uses Mars as a base for an army of brainwashed earthlings and sends them on an ill-fated mission to invade Earth.

Steven Spielberg also revived the invading Martian with his reworking of War of the Worlds, starring Tom Cruise as a family man on the run from hostile alien forces.

In the music world, David Bowie inspired his fans to question whether the planet could support organic life in Life on Mars, although the song itself did little to answer the question.

Perhaps more insight was offered by Elton John in Rocket Man in which he cautioned against settling on the Red Planet. “Mars ain’t the kind of place to raise your kids/ In fact it’s cold as hell/ And there’s no one there to raise them/ If you did.”

    • Elton John raises $2.5 million for Clinton campaign

Experience is central to Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton's presidential bid, and Wednesday night she tapped one of pop music's most venerable rockers to help fill her campaign coffers with $2.5 million.

"I've always been a Hillary supporter," John, 61, said before launching into his 1970 breakthrough hits, "Your Song" and "Border Song." "There is no one more qualified to lead America."

The English singer, composer and pianist added: "I'm amazed by the misogynistic attitudes of some of the people in this country. And I say to hell with them .... I love you Hillary, I'll be there for you."

    • Are Elton and Hillary breakin' the law?

Rumours have emerged that Hillary Clinton's planned 'One Night Only' gig, which will see Elton John perform, could actually be deemed illegal under US law.

According to reports, the FEC is looking into whether Elton John performing at the event could be interpreted as 'foreign intervention' within the Clinton campaign.

In 1966 the FEC initiated the Foreign Agents Registration Act which was intended: "to 'minimize foreign intervention' in U.S. elections by establishing a series of limitations on foreign nationals." An act which was then incorporated into the 1974 FECA (Federal Election Campaign Act) which "prohibits any foreign national from contributing, donating or spending funds in connection with any federal, state, or local election in the United States"

So, do you think that having Elton John playing at the 'One Night Only' gig falls under the FECA's ruling, or do you just think that all the candidates should be allowed to pick their own music star and then have one big party? If it's the latter, requests below.
