Get Together
This is a beautiful and relaxing background to the Youngblood's sixties song, Get Together. This was the one song I played over and over again when I was a child growing up in the late sixties. It was the anthem of the sixties. So feeling a bit nostalgic, I thought I would post it for anyone who may not have heard it before. And watching the waves in this video shows you the wisdom of the water in always staying fluid and peaceful. Enjoy. Civil War enthusiast killed by 140-year-old cannon ball
Sam White, was restoring a Civil War era cannon ball when it exploded, killing him in his driveway.
More than 140 years after Lee surrendered to Grant, the cannonball was still powerful enough to send a chunk of shrapnel through the front porch of a house a quarter-mile from White's home in Virginia.
This brings the US Civil War casualty count to 700,001. Sam White, was restoring a Civil War era cannon ball when it exploded, killing him in his driveway. ... more -

Why do most of us watch the Super Bowl? For the ads, of course!
If you're like me and take part in the Super Bowl festivities for the guacamole and the advertisements, then this is the link for you. The New York Times has put together a collection of Super Bowl ads from the last 23 years, highlighting the best of the best, giving explanatory verbs and even a bunch embedded videos to watch. Ah, it's proof that they really are basically $3 million worth of random animals doing funny things to celebrities made to make us laugh. You can even watch the 1984 Apple ad that they're calling the best Super Bowl spot, ever. I must say... it is pretty bad-ass.
My fav is definitely the E*Trade one from 2000. I actually remember whose dirty couch I was sitting on that day when I saw it. I got all nostalgic. Do you remember these? Which one is your favorite? If you're like me and take part in the Super Bowl festivities for the guacamole and the advertisements, then this is the link for you.... more -
Lenin turns over in his grave as young Russians commodify the USSR
Muscovite designer Denis Simachev has created a line of clothes emblazoned with the images of the former Soviet state.
With T-shirts selling for $600, Simachev is no communist, but he says that his clothing reflects nostalgic memories of Soviet rule.
People in their 30s see these kinds of symbols as reminders of happy memories, like going to pioneer camp where they lived together, ate breakfast together and played sports.
I guess its the Russian equivalent to wearing a shirt that says "Know your Roots" with a picture of a Nintendo. Muscovite designer Denis Simachev has created a line of clothes emblazoned with the images of the former Soviet state. ... more -

O.G. Bionic Woman vs. The Fembots! 70's Del Monte CORN!
Wow. And these were considered cutting edge special effects back in the proverbial day. Damn, Gina.
I love how it was basically all left up to the supa-dupa cheesy sound effects to represent the Bionic Woman's capabilities and powers and whatnot to viewers. And of course a gang of slow motion! Nowadays you could pretty much make an episode of the same caliber with your cell phone.
Wonder how crappy and thoroughly crappy/cheesy/corny our 'wow' special effects in the here and now will seem upon nostalgically critical review in, say, another 20 years or so... Wow. And these were considered cutting edge special effects back in the proverbial day. Damn, Gina. ... more -
