Nude in New York? Naked dining and yoga takes off in Manhattan
Humid summers have encouraged a nudity trend that is stretching to restaurants, yoga classes and even a stand-up comedy club.
About 50 diners, whose motto is "no hot soup", regularly attend monthly naked meals held at a handful of restaurants in the city. They are served by regular restaurant staff who, under city regulations, must be wearing clothes.
"We're just more comfortable nude," said John Ordover, a keen urban nudist and founder of Clothing Optional Dinners. He told the New York Post: "We're not out to shock or put on a public spectacle. We want only to do things that other people do in the way that we are most comfortable doing them. That, for us, is without clothes."
The Phoenix Temple, a yoga centre in midtown Manhattan, has naked classes twice a week for about 10 practitioners. "I had such a transformative experience on my own when I did yoga naked rather than clothed, I wanted to share that" said Isis Phoenix, the yoga teacher.
At the People's Improv Theatre in Chelsea, men and women comics perform each week at the Naked Comedy Showcase. "Each time I tried comedy naked, it was the best thing ever," Andy Ofiesh, the event's founder, told the Post. "It gives you a kind of vulnerability that puts the audience on your side straight away." Half the auditorium is reserved for people who enjoy laughing in the nude. "We fill the space. Finding comedians is more difficult," said Mr Ofiesh.

Nude beach no more!
SAN ONOFRE -- A battle nearly 40 years in the making is coming to a head at one of Southern California's most iconic beaches, pitting the suits against the people who don't wear any.
Swimsuits, that is.
After decades of looking the other way, officials at San Onofre State Beach in north San Diego County are set to crack down on a clothing-optional stretch of sand where people soak up the sun without fear of tan lines.
Citing ongoing complaints from park visitors and the fear of workplace harassment lawsuits from employees, officials say they will begin citing skinny dippers who refuse to cover up after Labor Day. New large signs warning that nudity is prohibited have recently sprouted up throughout the park, and rangers are telling nude sunbathers that their endless summer is about to end.
"Times have changed," said Rich Haydon, acting superintendent of the California Parks and Recreation Department's Orange Coast District. "The population growth within a two-hour drive of San Onofre has grown tremendously through the years. It can no long be considered a remote beach."
Angered naturists say they intend to fight the move lying down -- in the sand, as hundreds of nude sunbathers do every summer weekend.
"Do you think one or two rangers could cite all those people? No way," said R. Allen Baylis, who heads Friends of San Onofre Beach, a naturist group. "There's going to be no way to effectively enforce this policy."
Haydon responded with a chuckle. "It will be enforced," he said. "We've already been in discussion with other law enforcement agencies."
San Onofre's surf breaks are internationally known, in particular the perfectly shaped lines at Trestles and the easygoing 1960s time warp at the longboarders' hub known as Old Man's Beach.
Naturists worldwide know San Onofre for Trail 6, a dirt path that snakes down from sandstone bluffs to the beach's southern end, where it meets Camp Pendleton.
When President Nixon transferred part of the Marine Corps base to the state for use as a park, he told a reporter, "This is a great sunning beach."
James Healey agrees, but probably not in the way Nixon envisioned.
"The vibe is very mellow down here. People mind their own business," said Healy, 49, of Oceanside, who was lying on a towel naked one recent afternoon. "I don't understand why this is a problem. Who cares?"
At issue is a murky combination of regulations and policies that park rangers have used for years to deal with nudity.
State law forbids nudity in state parks "except in authorized areas set aside for that purpose." But there are no such areas. In the late 1970s, Russell Cahill, then-director of the state parks department, proposed establishing "clothing optional" areas but dropped the idea in the face of opposition and concerns over the enforcement costs.
Instead, he issued what's become known as the Cahill Policy, under which citations or arrests are made only after a complaint from the public and attempts to "elicit voluntary compliance."
Beachgoers have been baring it all at Trail 6 since the park opened in 1973. Back then, San Onofre was about as isolated as a place could be in Southern California, a strip of sand that was a long drive from a creeping metropolis that had not yet reached it.
"There's a mystique to San Onofre, even today," said Haydon, who first went to work there more than 20 years ago as a seasonal lifeguard. "It's a throwback to what California looked like 100 years ago."
In some respects, though, San Onofre isn't what it was even a decade ago.
The beach had 2.5 million visitors in 2007, up from 1.6 million in 2000. Some of the newcomers are upending San Onofre's cherished informality: Bonfires, beers and longboards evoked a California beach culture a generation ago that exists today only on Super 8 film.

Sigur Rós site hacked by Islamic fundamentalists?
I may be wrong, but as of 2:30 am Eastern time, it appears as if the website for the Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Rós has been hacked by Islamic fundamentalists. Instead of a pre-order screen for their up and coming album, you're greeted by a message in red text with what looks like an excerpt from the Koran. Now what might have caused this? Well, recently the band has been allowing free downloads of their new single entitled "Gobbledigook," along with a music video which contains both female and male full frontal nudity. Now I'm no rocket scientist, but it seems as if these people have been upset by this kind of stuff before...

Teenagers' naked photos spread 'like wildfire'
Young people are increasingly taking pictures of themselves nude, on their mobile phones, which often then fall into the wrong hands - sometimes everyone's hands, thanks to the internet.
More worryingly, authorities trying to identify youngsters in nude images for child protection purposes are having their work hampered, as they increasingly discover that the subject took the photos themselves.
School administrators in Texas confiscated several cell phones from students in May after nude photos of two junior high girls began circulating. The girls had sent the photos to their boyfriends, who forwarded them to others, officials said.
In La Crosse, Wisconsin, a 17-year-old boy recently was charged with child pornography, sexual exploitation of a child and defamation for allegedly posting nude photos of his 16-year-old ex-girlfriend on his MySpace page. The girl had taken the pictures with her cell phone at her mother's home and emailed them to the boyfriend, authorities said.
"They were pretty graphic," said sheriff's Sgt. Mark Yehle. "I think they just do it to impress their boyfriends. When he breaks up, he `vents,' in his words, by posting them. He apparently didn't think there was anything wrong with it. He didn't know it was illegal."
Psychologists say the phenomenon reflects typical teenage hormones and lack of judgement, with technology multiplying the potential for mischief. Bizarre Love Pentagram: "No Remorse" (Episode 2)
This is a censored version of a final visual edit for episode 2 of my feature length directorial debut "Bizarre Love Pentagram." This scene is a flashback account of a moment in 1984. Shot in my own kitchen and backyard in 2007, we changed everything in the set to resemble a typical home in the Sunset District of the 80's, from the cookware and telephone to the records and typical clothes. We did, however, do some motion graphic compositing to hide the Pokemon artwork (of the 90's). We simply replaced it with a Voltes 5 picture (of the late 70's). The sound is incomplete and the music is not cleared. The censored cussing and blackouts of nudity were necessitated in order to post it places.
This scene is a flashback of a main character, Venom, when he was 12 and his sister, Taj Mahal, 14. This is the day she reveals to him a letter from their excommunicated dad hidden by their mom, Florenzia. He wants them all to come back but their mom, never stating her reason, refused. This day was also a major turning point for Venom when his sister introduces him to Motorhead.
