Kids who photograph themselves naked are child pornographers and sex offenders
A fifteen year old girl in Newark, OH faces being labelled a "sex offender" for sending naked cellphone photos of herself (a minor) to other minors. If convicted, she'll spend the next ten years on public registries, classed as a producer of child pornography. No word on what compensation she (as the victim of the crime) will be able to get from herself (as the perp).
According to Ohio law, 2907.323(A)(3) states anyone possessing material that shows a minor in a state of nudity is guilty of a fifth-degree felony. The violation also might qualify the juvenile as a Tier I sexual offender, which requires annual registration for a decade.
The section of the law the girl, who is a foster child, was charged with allows parents or guardians to take photos of their unclothed children for a list of acceptable purposes but does not provide an exemption for the child themselves. Female Therapist Admits Rape of a Teen Patient
Jennifer Hastings, 33-year-old psychologist admitted to committing the sex offenses she faced involving a freshman boy she was counseling at Tamarac High School in September and October 2007. She was arrested in October 2007. Hastings, whose trial was scheduled to begin next week, made the plea in Rensselaer County Court on Thursday.
According to her plea she had sex with the teen several times in her car, at local motels and in her Sand Lake home.
Hastings was a court-assigned counselor for the then-freshman at Tamarac High School in Brunswick when the acts occurred in September and October 2007. Trysts occurred in a parking lot across from the school, in a Schodack hotel and at Hastings' home.
Hastings admitted that it started with kissing in the parking lot. Then I had oral sexual contact with him. " Judge McGrath asked Hastings what happened when she took the student to a Schodack motel and later to her home. "There was sex. Yeah, I had sex with him," Hastings responded.
Hastings also has charges pending in Albany County Court for an alleged liaison with the boy in other hotel during the same time.

Mother gets 10 years for raping her 3-year-old son
Lorri Rye, 35-year-old mother from Van Buren, Arkansas was sentenced by Circuit Court Judge Gary R. Cottrell to 10 years in prison and a consecutive 10-year suspended sentence after being convicted by a jury of raping her three-year-old son.
Rye's conviction relied upon her videotaped confession to Van Buren Sgt. Daniel Perry and former Detective Keith Lindley.
Rye will register as a sex offender once released from prison. While serving the 10-year suspended tag-along sentence, Rye will be prohibited from having any unsupervised contact with her son. The jury wanted to make sure that the boy was at least 18 before Rye had unrestricted access to him. As a minimum, Rye will have to serve seven years of her prison term before she is eligible for parole.
Helen Hawthorne, who was the child's baby-sitter and is Rye's sister-in-law, testified that in October 2007, the child had asked if she wanted to play a game, and when she agreed, he asked if she wanted to perform sexual acts on him, including putting his genitals in her mouth.
Hawthorne told Chief Deputy Prosecutor Robert Presley she said, "I don't do that," to which she said the boy replied, "Well, Mommy does."
The next day was the child's fourth birthday, and Hawthorne said she agonized over what to do before going to police the day after his birthday because she didn't want to "destroy" his birthday.
The same day Hawthorne went to police, Oct. 19, 2007, Rye was brought in for questioning. The jury was shown a tape of her interrogation where, after repeated denials, she separately told Van Buren Sgt. Daniel Perry and former Detective Keith Lindley that she had performed oral sex on the child on two occasions. Man raped girl, 13, in churchyard
A knifeman in fancy dress who raped a 13-year-old girl in a churchyard has been jailed for seven-and-a-half years. Alexander Meyer, 25, who lives near Oxford, was also placed on the sex offenders register for life for the attack
The court heard Meyer threatened the girl with a knife during her ordeal in a churchyard shed at an annual fancy dress party in July. Meyer admitted to the rape and also confessed to possessing indecent images of children, which were found on two computers.

Female teacher gets 6 years in student sex case
elsey Peterson, 26-year-old female teacher from Lexington, Nebraska, plead guilty to federal charges of crossing state lines to engage in sex with a person under and was sentenced to six years in prison.
Peterson was a sixth-grade teacher and coach in small town of Lexington, until Oct. 25 2007, when school officials put Peterson on administrative leave after learning that she might be in a relationship with a 13-year-old student. The school had reason to believe that 25-year-old Kelsey Peterson was having sexual relationship with 13-year-old Fernando Rodriguez.
According to police, correspondence uncovered in an investigation shows the two have had a sexual relationship for some time. Letters allegedly sent by Rodriguez while living at a home for at-risk boys in Alliance refers to teacher Kelsey Peterson as his “Baby Gurl” and says that their relationship is about more than sex. Intruder dies, intending sexual assault
INDIANAPOLIS -- A man who police said broke into a home with the intention of sexually assault a 17-year-old girl in her bedroom died early Sunday morning after a struggle with the girl's father.
David Meyers (pictured), 52, was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after officers arrived following a report of a home invasion in the 3500 block of West 79th Street at about 3:20 a.m.
Officers said they found Robert McNally, 64, on the floor with his arm around the neck of Meyers, struggling to hold him down.
When officers told McNally he could let go, they found that Meyers was unresponsive. Medics who were called to the scene then pronounced Meyers dead.
Indianapolis police Sgt. Matt Mount said Meyers had come into the home naked, except for a mask and latex gloves.
"He had rope, had a knife, had condoms, had a gag," Mount said.
Police said Meyers had gotten into the home through a window next to the girl's bedroom and that he knew the home well because his uncle owns it and he was an acquaintance of the family.
The teen awoke to find a naked man in her room and began screaming, alerting McNally, police said.
During a protracted struggle in the hallway of the home, McNally was able to get his arm around Meyers' neck and subdue him while his wife called police, officers said.
Meyers was a registered sex offender and was released from prison two years ago after he had served 10 years of a 20-year sentence for criminal confinement and sexual deviate conduct stemming from a case in Hamilton County.
Meyers was also being sought in Boone County for failure to register as a sex offender.
Police said Meyers had been living with his mother down a gravel road from the home that the McNally family lived in and had recently lost his job.
"When they got the mask off, both the father and daughter recognized him," Mount said.
Police said Meyers had a history of heart problems. They were not immediately sure if he died as a result of heart failure or from being choked.
The results of the police investigation will be turned over to the Marion County Prosecutor's Office, but it is unlikely charges will be filed, police said. Fulton Woman accused of raping young boy
Tabitha Regan, 18-year-old Fulton woman has been charged with raping a 13-year-old boy while his mother was asleep on a couch in their apartment. Regan is accused of having sexual intercourse with the boy on Aug. 29.
Tabitha Regan met the boy over the summer at Rowlee Beach. She told police that the pair had hung out together several times before the incident, but that they were always with other people.
In his statement to police, the victim said that Regan came over to his house in the evening on Aug. 29. He said his mother was asleep on the couch and he was watching television downstairs. He said Regan followed him to the upstairs bathroom and opened the door while he was washing his hands. He said she then ordered him to go into the bedroom, where the two undressed and had sex.

Another Michigan Female Teacher accused of having sex with teen students
Ranee Sue Proper, 41-years-old teacher from Holly, Michigan, has been arrested and arraigned on felony sex charges on allegations that she had sex with two male students at her home and the high school. Proper is charged with five counts of criminal sexual conduct in the third degree. Proper taught vocal music to students in grades 9-12.
A police investigation began after a parent brought the allegations to police in May. Proper, a teacher in the Holly School District for four years, resigned in June. The incidents allegedly began in December and continued until April during Proper's time as a Holly teacher. It's unclear if the victims were actual students in Proper's class.
Rumors of Proper's alleged intimate relationships with students began spreading around the high school shortly before the end of the school year. She also let students to give her massages - some students considered that very inappropriate.

Non-sex offender listed in public registry
The only thing that separates Danny Seals from the majority of sex offenders is that he never was convicted of a sex crime.
Seals technically is a child victim offender and, according to numbers provided by the Ohio Attorney General's Office, he is one of more than 400 individuals in the state lumped in, and likely confused, with the mass of sex offenders.
"The public is not aware of this," Seals, 49, said during a video interview with The Advocate at the jail. "They just look at me and think I'm a monster."
In February 1994, Seals walked into a salon in downtown Mount Vernon to meet his soon-to-be ex-wife to sign divorce papers, according to Mount Vernon police reports and interview transcripts with Seals.
Instead, Seals pulled a handgun, setting off the beginning of a four-hour standoff with police.
Inside the salon were two employees and two children -- the children were released within minutes and the adults soon thereafter. They called 911, and the salon was surrounded by police. Seals eventually surrendered without bloodshed.
He was indicted, pleaded guilty to and was convicted of one count of kidnapping and four counts of abduction.
In 1999, when Seals was released and classified under Megan's Law, the predecessor of the Adam Walsh Act, a defendant who was found guilty of abduction in which the victim was younger than 18 at the time of the offense was to be classified as a sexual offender, said Knox County Prosecutor John Thatcher, who had no involvement in the original case.
However, if Seals would have been convicted of the same crime today, prosecutors would need to prove the kidnapping or the abduction were sexually motivated to hold a classification hearing, according to the law.
Unfortunately for him, Seals said most people don't bother to find out why he's listed online as a sex offender.
Seals, a Newark resident, said his private life has been invaded because of his court-ordered status.
The words "molester" and "predator" have been scratched into his car and his home, he said.
His stepchildren have been picked on by classmates, and Seals said he hasn't had any close friends since his reintroduction to society.
He has floated from job to job -- more than 20 in the past nine years -- and has learned the warning signs a boss elicits immediately before letting him go.
"They see me on the Internet, and it's only a matter of days before I get fired," Seals said. "The day that they find out, I already know."

Shannon Michelle Rew arrested for sex with a teen boy
Shannon Michelle Rew, 37-year-old Idianola woman was arrested for allegedly engaging in sex with a 15-year-old boy. Rew faces 12 counts of sex abuse plus dissemination and exhibition of obscene material to minors and admitting minors to premises where obscene material is exhibited. Officers found nude pictures and sexually explicit text messages sent between Rew and the 15-year-old.
The boy allegedly told officers that he had had sexual intercourse with Rew at least 12 times and that he had viewed pornographic material at her residence. Indianola Police Sgt. Sex offenders to face lie tests
Sex offenders in some areas of the UK will be forced to take lie detector tests to see if they are still a danger to the public, the Ministry of Justice has said.
A pilot scheme will run from next April for three years. Under an earlier, voluntary pilot, nearly 80% of tests prompted admissions.

Lisa Robyn Marinelli's Trial Date Set
Pasco Circuit Judge Thane Covert set the trial of Lisa Robyn Marinelli on a charge of unlawful sex with a minor for Dec. 1.
Investigators say Marinelli, now 41, had sex with the boy about 10 times between Jan. 12 and Feb. 27. Most of the encounters took place in the teacher's 2007 Chrysler 300 in or near the Longleaf subdivision, off State Road 54. The relationship was discovered Feb. 28, according to affidavits, when the teen's father went to visit him at his workplace and saw his son getting out of Marinelli's back seat, holding his pants together as if he was pulling them up.
The judge granted a motion from the prosecution to compel Marinelli to provide a DNA sample. Marinelli was taken to a back room by a detective and other witnesses looking on to do a swab of cells from her inside cheek.
The DNA will be compared to that found on a pair of undergarments which the boy allegedly got from Marinelli.

Sex with Young Boy Video Leads to Woman's Arrest
Stacey Sheldon, 31-year-old Apopka woman has been arrested by Orange County Sheriff's deputies for allegedly engaging in sex with a 16-year-old boy. Sheldon faces charges of committing a sex act with a 16-year-old.
According to the Orange County sex crimes unit, Stacey Sheldon accidentally left her cell phone at the boy's house. The boy's sister discovered Sheldon's phone and found the video clips showing Sheldon having sex with her brother, deputies said. The 16-year-old victim told detectives that he met Sheldon in July. They had sex four or five times in various places, including his house and her home.

Carolynn Hatcher Pleads Guilty To Having Sex With Teen Boy
Carolynn Hatcher, 25-years-old teacher and housemother at Midwestern Home for Children in the village of Pleasant Plain, Ohio has pleaded guilty to three charges of sexual battery. In exchange for the guilty plea, prosecutors dropped three additional sexual battery charges. She was orginally charged on allegations that she had a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old male resident of the home and became pregnant with the teen’s child.
Hatcher was indicted on six counts of sexual battery. The alleged crimes reportedly happened during April and May of this year. Hatcher, who worked at the facility with her husband was fired by the group home in June.
Hatcher came to the attention of authorities when another child living in the group home reported the relationship.
Prosecutors say the boy came into state's care in 2004 after he was believed to have been physically abused and neglected. Barbara Case convicted of sex offences, told to go home
Barbara Case, 36-years-old married mother-of three who flew 9,600 miles to seduce an Australian boy of 15 she met on gaming site Runescape was freed to return to her family in the US as soon as possible.
She admitted having sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 16 and was sentenced to 16 months in jail, suspended for two years on condition she does not commit a similar offence.

Woman Arrested for Sex Abuse of Friend's Daughter
Valencia Sephus, 30-year-old Harvey woman, was arrested last Thursday for the alleged sexual abuse of a 15-year-old girl. South suburban woman was ordered held on $250,000 bond.
Sephus is charged with having a sexual encounter in June with the teenager at a Tinley Park apartment while girls parents weren't home. The girl is the daughter of Sephus' friend, police said. Sex offender check scheme launched
Parents in four areas of England will be able to check whether new partners or other people with significant access to their children are sex offenders under a pilot scheme launched on Monday.
The initiative allows police and probation services to disclose some information to families about people who have unsupervised contact with their children.
It is not as extensive as the American version - but would give you more info than is currently available.
"You have to be a parent, carer or a guardian and you would go to the police or the authorities and say you have concern about somebody who had unsupervised direct access to your children," Home Office minister Vernon Coaker told BBC radio.
"It may well be a babysitter, it may be a new boyfriend, it may be somebody who lives next door but it has to be somebody who has that unsupervised access."

Woman gets six years in prison for having sex with 13-year-old
Pamela Torrer, 35-year-old Philadelphia woman, was sentenced September 2008 to six years in prison for engaging in sex with a 13-year-old boy between September 2004 and April 2006.
Pamela Torres, 35, pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of a child and acknowledged having a sexual relationship with the boy in her former home in Elk Township, Gloucester County, between September 2004 and April 2006. Torres and boy had sex over 100 times authorities said.
According to the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office, the victim's guardian said the teen is "borderline retarded" and "now struggling with confusion over how to relate to female adults and girls of his own age." Superior Court Judge Robert P. Becker Jr. took that into account when sentencing Torres to six years of a possible 10-year term, the prosecutor's office said.
Becker also noted that Torres was a first-time offender who had numerous letters of support from family members.
According to the prosecutor's office, Torres' attorney, Nicholas Manzi, argued for the minimum five-year sentence, claiming that she was dealing with depression, addiction and an abusive spouse when the relationship with the boy occurred.
Torres also has an 11-year-old son with disabilities.

Mother of 4 Accused of Sex with Teen Boy
Wendie Estrada Fernandez, a 45-year-old fifth-grade teacher at Corona Ranch Elementary School was arrested for allegedly engaging in sex with a 17-year-old male student in the Corona-Norco Unified School District.
Fernandez, married mother of 3 boys and one girl knew the boy through someone in her family, but it did not allegedly stop her from having unlawful sexual intercourse and oral sex with a 17-year-old high school boy in the Corona-Norco Unified School District, according to reports. School nurse accused of having sex with teen boys
Laura J. Obzera, 49, a Bolingbrook elementary school nurse was arrested Thursday afternoon and charged with three counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse for allegedly having sexual relations with three teen boys in 2006.
The charges resulted from an investigation that began Sept. 2, when the Department of Children and Family Services asked police to look into “inappropriate text messages of a sexual nature being sent between a female adult suspect and male teenaged victims.”
There is no indication that the abuse of the boys, ages 13 to 17, happened on school property, Bolingbrook police Cmdr. Tom Ross said, and Obzera apparently did not meet them through her job.
Obzera was arrested nine days after Bolingbrook police joined a Department of Children and Family Services inquiry into sexually charged text messages that were exchanged between an adult female and male teens, officials said. She was released on $50,000 bail.
Obzera is an active licensed practical nurse, according to the Illinois Division of Financial and Professional Regulation. She was licensed in 1982 and had no prior violations.
