Jay-Z gets bumped up the charts after Glastonbury
Headlining at Glastonbury has seriously helped Jay-Z's record sales. His 2004 single '99 Problems' looks like it's going to sit comfortably in the Top 25 UK singles chart this weekend, and his duet with Linkin Park is also on its way to the Top 40.
And after opening with Oasis' Wonderwall, he's made Noel Gallagher eat his words. Gallagher had called Jay-Z a "wrong" choice to headline the festival. But now Wonderwall is making a come back on the charts -- What's the Story album has seen a sales increase of 200%. Not so 'wrong' anymore, is he?

Thorpe says Phelps won't break Olympic record
"I wish him all the very best. I don't think he will do it, but I'd love to see it," Thorpe said.
Phelps, during the 2004 Athens Olympics won six gold medals, one short of Mark Spitz's 7-gold medal-win in Munich in 1972.
For the Beijing games, Phelps has laid out a swimming program in which he will attempt to break Spitz's record.
Thorpe argues that the competition is stronger than ever and although Phelps is good, there are many other strong swimmers out there.

Former R&B singer gets 9 years in prison for bank robbery
An elderly former R&B singer who said he robbed a bank to pay his medical bills was sentenced to more than nine years in prison Wednesday.
Lester Russaw, 74, told U.S. District Judge Solomon Oliver during a sentencing hearing that he was desperate for money after losing his job. He failed to find work after months of looking, he said.
"I wasn't greedy," Russaw said. "I didn't do this because I wanted to buy drugs. I didn't do it to buy a big screen TV or a Rolex watch
Russaw was part of a group named the Coronets who had a top hit in 1953 titled "Nadine".

Oliver Peck - Tattoo Artist Sets Guinness World Record
Oliver Peck may be seeing the number 13 in his dreams. From midnight Thursday to midnight Friday, Peck completed 415 tattoos, applying the unlucky number 13 to scores of arms, legs, ankles, backs, thighs and even some rear ends.
Peck claimed a mention in the Guinness Book of Records for drawing the most tattoos in a 24-hour period. He was awarded the honor by Guinness adjudicator Danny Girton Jr., according to a report on The Dallas Morning News Web site Saturday.
The former record holder is Katherine Von Drachenberg, also known as Kat Von D, star of the reality TV show "LA Ink" on TLC.

Life expectancy hits record high in United States
Americans' life expectancy reached a record high of 78.1 years in 2006, with disparities among ethnic groups and between the sexes generally narrowing, according to government data released yesterday.
The death rates from most diseases went down, with influenza mortality falling steeply and AIDS mortality marking its 10th straight year of decline. Infant mortality in 2006 also fell from the previous year, continuing a trend stretching back nearly 50 years.
"This report has a lot of good news," said Melonie P. Heron, a demographer at the National Center for Health Statistics who compiled and analyzed the data drawn from death certificates filed with each state and the District.
The favorable trends appear to contradict reports of shortening life spans in some Americans, specifically women living in rural parts of the South and Midwest. The new report, however, did not examine mortality at that level of detail. The two trends -- overall national improvement, with certain subgroups doing worse -- are not incompatible, experts noted. Longest line of baked pizza world record
Aussie chefs have created a new Guinness World Record by making the longest line of freshly baked pizzas.
This line of 826 freshly cooked pizzas, stretched to 221 metres and has smashed the previous record of a similar line in United States by just one metre.
Crowds flocked to the Italian hub of Leichhardt, in Sydney's innerwest, to witness the record, where 25 chefs used 500kg of flour, 250 litres of tomato sauce and 350kg of mozzarella cheese.

New 5000m Distance Running World Record set by Tirunesh Dibaba
Worldamazingrecords.com - Ethiopia’s Tirunesh Dibaba set a new world 5,000m record at the Bislett Games Golden League Meet in Oslo Friday.
Her time of 14:11.15 smashed her fellow Ethiopian Meseret Defar’s mark of 14:16.63 on a night with perfect running conditions. Lucy Wangui of Kenya finished a distant second in 14:33.39 while Dibaba’s older sister Ejegayehu claimed 3rd in 14:36.78
Dibaba, who turned 23 on June 1, followed the early pacemaking of Russia’s Anna Alminova and her sister through 3km, which she reached in 8:38.83. That is faster than the world leading time for the distance of 8:42.96 set by Russia’s Gulnara Samitova- Galkina. Dibaba broke away shortly after that point to shatter the world record.
Earlier this year, Dibaba captured the IAAF world cross country title in Edinburgh and was the 2007 IAAF world champion at 10,000m.

world's fastest 100-meter butterfly Swim Record Set by Michael Phelps
Worldamazingrecords.com - Michael Phelps swim the world's fastest 100-meter butterfly of the year Friday night, and he thought he could have done even better.
Phelps finished in 51.04 seconds at the Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational, beating world record-holder Ian Crocker's previous 2008 best of 51.32, which Crocker recorded in Austin, Texas, in March.
"I really wanted to break 51 in the 100 fly, but my finish kind of wasn't too good," Phelps said. "I kind of kissed the wall. It's really not how you're supposed to finish. Hopefully it's something I can work on in the next two weeks."
Phelps, who was 0.64 seconds off Crocker's world record of 50.40, said he might have gone under 51 if he had glided into the wall rather than taking a half-stroke at the finish.
"It's all a learning experience," he said. "I'd rather have it here than in the next two months."

Mino, 63, whose real name is Norio Minorikawa, was given the certificate in a ceremony at the Tokyo head studio of Nippon Television Network Corp. by a representative of Guinness World Records Ltd. of Britain.

Most Model Aircraft Flown Simultaneously World Record set by SEFF
A new Guinness World Record was set earlier this month at the Southeastern Electric Flight Festival, near Altlanta Georgia, U.S.A. for the total number of R/C model aircraft flown at the same time within a period of one minute. Ric Vaughn was event co-coordinator for the attempt which exceeded the standing record of 49 models (set in South Africa) with no less than 113 launches.
One hundred planes remained in the air for the required time. "During the range check we had a total of 59 2.4GHz systems on and bound at the same time" said Vaughn, "Sky space was not a problem, most participants said they had plenty of room to fly, but there was one midair, which cost us a plane. All and all, it went way better than I thought it would."

NHTA Tow Trucks set Guinness World Record
Many motorists on Ocean Boulevard Sunday thought twice before double parking, leaving the meter empty or blocking any fire lanes.
That's because there were more than 250 tow trucks on the road during the New Hampshire Towing Association's world record attempt for the largest tow truck parade. The NHTA was also in town this weekend for its annual trade show at Hampton Beach State Park.
Flatbeds; wheel-hook tow trucks; massive, 72-ton big-rig wreckers: Every type of tow truck imaginable rolled single file down the streets of Hampton. The parade could be heard long before it was seen, and children, along with a few parents, pumped their fists, encouraging drivers to sound off with airhorns and sirens.

Regents Street, London: a new Guinness world record has been established by the Spanish Tourist Board, the Andalucía Tourist Board, the Regents Street Association and the essential help of 456 passionate and hugely enthusiastic dancers for the "largest Sevillanas dance”.
The record attempt was part of a 2 week festival of music, dance and food, 'The Taste of Spain', to celebrate Spanish culture in the UK and to promote English tourism in Spain. The event was attended by the Major of Westminster, two MC's, 3 bands over two stages, professional and amateur dancers, national and international media and many Regent Street visitors.
