War Made Easy -FILM TRAILER
War Made Easy reaches into the Orwellian memory hole to expose a 50-year pattern of government deception and media spin that has dragged the United States into one war after another from Vietnam to Iraq. Narrated by actor and activist Sean Penn, the film exhumes remarkable archival footage of official distortion and exaggeration from LBJ to George W. Bush, revealing in stunning detail how the American news media have uncritically disseminated the pro-war messages of successive presidential administrations.
War Made Easy gives special attention to parallels between the Vietnam war and the war in Iraq. Guided by media critic Norman Solomon’s meticulous research and tough-minded analysis, the film presents disturbing examples of propaganda and media complicity from the present alongside rare footage of political leaders and leading journalists from the past, including Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, Defense Secretary Robert McNamara, dissident Senator Wayne Morse, and news correspondents Walter Cronkite and Morley Safer.
Norman Solomon’s work has been praised by the Los Angeles Times as “brutally persuasive” and essential “for those who would like greater context with their bitter morning coffee.” This film now offers a chance to see that context on the screen. Harvey Milk: Without Hope, Life is Not Worth Living
To be young and gay or lesbian in the 1970s was to anticipate that your life would be shackled by constant fears of personally devastating public exposure, your life marked as an isolated and lonely, elusively secretive journey, and your closest personal relationships always hidden behind darkened bar windows.
No single person could have changed all of that, and certainly not all the changes have been achieved today. But a few powerful figures have given gay and lesbian people the confidence that they needed to stop lying to and about themselves.
People told Harvey Milk that no openly gay man could ever win political office. Fortunately, he ignored their advice. And after Harvey Milk became the first openly gay man elected to any substantial political office in the history of the world, thousands of astonished people wrote to Milk thanking him for finally giving them a chance to emerge from the shadows of mankind and to join the human race.
The new amazing biographical motion picture, Milk, pays homage to Harvey Milk. The film is directed by the Oscar-winning Gus Van Sant, who also previously directed My Own Private Idaho and Good Will Hunting. Sean Penn stars as Harvey Milk, with James Franco playing his life partner, Scott Smith, and Josh Brolin as Dan White, Milk's eventual killer. The new film about Harvey Milk is being described as big, brash, bold and already looking as though it could be a major contender in the motion picture awards season.
If this first trailer is anything to go by, Gus Van Sant's Milk is going to be a big movie that takes on big issues in contemporary American life.
This detailed article presents biographic notes about the life and times of Harvey Milk, a number of photographs from the film, and the official HD trailer of Gus Van Sant's stunning biopic, “Milk.” To be young and gay or lesbian in the 1970s was to anticipate that your life would be shackled by constant fears of personally devasta... more -

The film looks good, or perhaps I'm a sucker for 70s period pieces, especially those regarding locale figures.

Sean Penn opens Cannes, attacks Bush
Sean Penn, president of this year's Cannes Film Festival jury, commenced the annual event in an unorthodox way. Wednesday, he lashed out at Bush saying that who operates "without a brain and a heart" results in killing thousands through wars. He also talked about US Elections affirming that "these are the most important elections in my life and probably in our history" but that he is not endorsing a candidate in the race for the White House.
During a press conference, the Hollywood rebel lit up two cigarettes in defiance of French smoking ban and used the F-word.

New Documentary Challenges Copyright Laws--yeah!
The new documentary "War Made Easy" isn't just a searing critique of how administrations over the past 40 years have manipulated the media to build support for war. The 72-minute film is a media provocation itself -- a challenge to federal copyright laws.Based on a 2005 book by Bay Area media critic Norman Solomon and narrated by actor Sean Penn, roughly 90 percent of "War Made Easy" consists of archival news footage from major television networks that would cost a ton of money to license -- if the filmmakers had paid for all it; they bought only about 60 percent from distributors.
