Olbermann & Patrick are Reunited
Very possibly the best SportsCenter duo in the history of the network, Dan Patrick and Keith Olbermann will once again share the screen thanks to NBC. Bob Costas will host the NFL show that includes Cris Collinsworth, Jerome Bettis, Tiki Barber and Peter King. Can't wait for this. Great times but makes me think of my favorite SportsCenter anchors, teams and hosts. There were many but who's your favorite?
From the article
By Michael Hiestand, USA TODAY
Dan Patrick, the longtime ESPN anchor, will this season join NBC's Sunday night NFL studio show – where he'll reunite with Keith Olbermann, his on-air ESPN SportsCenter partner between 1992 and 1997.
Patrick will also join a big cast on a show wrapped around NBC's Sunday primetime game.
He'll be the show's third co-host – along with Olbermann and Cris Collinsworth – on a show hosted by Bob Costas that includes analysts Jerome Bettis, Tiki Barber and reporter Peter King.
Said Olbermann Monday: "My concern is that we didn't have enough people on the show. We really needed that 19th guy."
Patrick, who left ESPN last year and now hosts a syndicated daytime radio show, had a contract that prohibited him TV work until this September. His NBC deal will also include working on NBC's Olympic coverage, starting with the 2010 Winter Games.
Monday, NBC Sports Chairman Dick Ebersol and Patrick both said the idea for Patrick joining the NBC show came from Costas.
Said Patrick: "If Bob didn't sign off on this, there's no way I'd walk into the room." Very possibly the best SportsCenter duo in the history of the network, Dan Patrick and Keith Olbermann will once again share the scree... more -

Olbermann slams McCain on Iraq war
We all know Keith can get a little hot headed but I still think he's extremely patriotic, I think he does this because he feels it's a moral imperative, call me naive if you will. Keith always will K.O. the right wingers
"Tonight, a Special Comment on Sen. John McCain’s conclusion that it’s "not too important" when American forces come home from Iraq.
"Thoughts, offered more in sorrow, than in anger. For two full days now, the Senator and his supporters have been outraged at what they see as the subtraction of context from this extraordinary remark.
This is, sadly, the excuse of our time, for everything. Still. If the Senator claims truncation, we will correct that, first.
"A lot of people," Matt Lauer began, "now say the surge is working."
"Anybody who knows the facts on the ground say that," the Senator interjected.
"If it’s now working, Senator," Lauer continued, "do you now have a better estimate of when American forces can come home from Iraq?"
"No," answered McCain. "But that’s not too important. What’s important is the casualties in Iraq. Americans are in South Korea. Americans are in Japan. American troops are in Germany.
That’s all fine. American casualties and the ability to withdraw. We will be able to withdraw. General Petraeus is going to tell us in July when he thinks we are. But the key to it is we don’t want any more Americans in harm’s way. And that way they will be safe, and serve our country, and come home with honor and victory — not in defeat, which is what Sen. [Barack] Obama’s proposal would have done. And I’m proud of them, and they’re doing a great job. And we are succeeding. And it’s fascinating that Sen. Obama still doesn’t realize it."
And there is the context of what Sen. McCain said. Well, not quite, Senator.
The full context is that the Iraq you see, is a figment of your imagination. This is not a war about "honor and victory," Sir. This is a war you, and the President you support and seek to succeed, conned this nation into.
Yes, sir. You"."

Constitutional scholar on impeachment: 'It's time to pony up'
by: David Edwards and Mike Sheehan
Law professor and constitutional law expert Jonathan Turley says that America's founders "would have been astonished by the absolute passivity, if not the collusion, of the Democrats in protecting President Bush from impeachment."
MSNBC's Keith Olbermann talked with Turley one day after Kucinich's historic presentation of 35 articles of impeachment against President Bush that garnered little mainstream media attention but was an Internet sensation.
Despite noting that not all of the articles Kucinich presented were "impeachable offenses" in a strict sense, Turley says "there are pleny of crimes there -- this is a target-rich environment."

Open Letter to Keith Olbermann Regarding HR 1955/S. 1959
Dear Keith,
I am writing in regard to the Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007, which has been passed in the House and is now under consideration in the Senate. I find the language of this bill to be highly troubling considering on the vague definitions and broad findings. For example:
"(3) HOMEGROWN TERRORISM- The term `homegrown terrorism' means the use, planned use, or threatened use, of force or violence by a group or individual born, raised, or based and operating primarily within the United States or any possession of the United States to intimidate or coerce the United States government, the civilian population of the United States, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives."
I find the distinction "force or violence", to be extremely chilling considering that if we look at the dictionary definitions of force that do not include violence we find this:
"mental or moral strength or power"
This bill simply cannot be dismissed as creating a benign commission considering the track record of previous Congressional witch-hunts, the vagueness of the definitions and findings in this bill, and the intellectual dishonesty exhibited by the expert testimony solicited by the house committee that crafted this bill. Experts such as Mark Weitzman who made the case to Congress that groups such as Architects and Engineers for 9-11 Truth should be lumped in with Al-Qaida websites and be equally considered the target of this bill for such subversive activities as questioning the official government reports and demanding an independent investigation. Regardless of one's opinion on the 9-11 truth movement and the veracity of their claims, they should not be lumped in with terrorists seeking to bring down the country through violent means.
While I do realize that this act in and of itself does not carry any immediate legislative danger do our civil liberties, it is not a door I wish to be opened as I believe it will do nothing to curtail real terrorist threats and will primarily serve as a mechanism for marginalizing critics and stifling free speech in general.
I would highly appreciate it if you could help illuminate the public to the dangers posed by this bill and end the media blackout on its progress in the Senate.
Sincerely,
Me

Bush's counterterrorism advisor says McCain lied about war too
The Senate Intelligence Committee has released the long-delayed final phase of its report on prewar intelligence, highlighting the Bush administration's misuse of that intelligence to lead us into war in Iraq. Richard Clarke, former counterterrorism advisor to both the Clinton and Bush administrations, appeared on Countdown with Keith Olbermann to discuss the implications of the report.
Clarke stated unequivocally that figures in the administration lied then and that Senator John McCain is not telling the truth now when he defends them. "Someone should have to pay in some way," Clarke emphasized. "I just don't think we can let these people back into polite society."
"The report does not use the word 'lie,' Olbermann began. "Are there lies?"
"There certainly are," Clarke replied. "This is a big report, but what it says is 'statements by the president were not substantiated by intelligence ... statements by the president were contradicted by available intelligence. In other words, they made things up ... that people in the intelligence community at the time knew were not true. ... To say that this is only something we could have known years later is just not true."
"What are we to make now of Senator McCain's ... remarkable claim that every intel assessment of the time was screaming 'WMD'?" asked Olbermann.
"Senator McCain's statements are contradicted by the facts, too," Clarke replied firmly. "He's also now justifying the intelligence statements of the president. ... We have the proof, four years too late, that those statements were flat out wrong."
"Prominent Democrats said today that impeachment was not a remedy to this," Olbermann continued. "Is there some other kind of remedy?"
"There may be some sort of truth and reconciliation commission process," Clarke said, referring to the system used in South Africa to expose and resolve the atrocities of the apartheid era. "If you come forward and admit that you were in error ... then you are forgiven. Otherwise, you are censured in some way."
"I just don't think we can let these people back into polite society," continued Clarke, "and give them seats on university boards and corporate boards and just pretend that nothing ever happened, when there are 4000 American dead and 25,000 Americans grievously wounded. ... Someone should have to pay in some way for the decisions that they made to mislead the American people."
Clarke concluded by pointing out that even former White House press secretary Scott McClellan is now expressing remorse for his role in the administration's deceptions. "He asked me to forgive him, and I think we do have to forgive people who ask for forgiveness," Clarke stated. "But first they have to admit they lied."

Scott McClellan trashes Bush on Countdown with Keith Olbermann
On "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" Thursday Scott McClellan sat down for a nearly hour-long interview with the MSNBC host to discuss his new book, "What Happened". The wide-ranging interview covered everything from the CIA leak to Fox News to McClellan's critics to the possibility of military action in Iran.
Towards the beginning of the interview Olbermann noted a passage in McClellan's book where he says Bush's foreign policy view was grounded in a "philosophy of coercive democracy." Olbermann noted, "it's a marvelous phrase, but is it an oxymoron?" McClellan said it was:
"[C]ertainly those [policies] have tarnished the reputation of the United States in a very negative way. And I think that has been harmful over the long term. But in terms of the coercive democracy, that was -- and you bring up a very good point about the oxymoron there -- but that was always the strategy for going into Iraq in first place. And I think that is what really drove the president's motivation to push ahead and rush into this. When I think that there were probably other options -- there were definitely other options available to him. He didn't have to box himself in. But when he went to the United Nations he said, either he disarms and the U.N. -- if he doesn't, then the U.N. goes in, or the security council authorizes it, or we will do it ourselves."
