Is 'rogue' grizzly on loose in Anchorage?
For the second time in six weeks, an Anchorage resident has been mauled by a grizzly bear in Far North Bicentennial Park.
The woman, who has yet to be identified, was reported to be jogging along Campbell Creek around 6 p.m. Friday evening when she was attacked by a sow with two cubs.
What is believed to be the same bear has been involved in a variety of aggressive confrontations with people since June. Rick Sinnott, the area's wildlife biologist with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, believes it was this bear that chased a mountain biker down the Rover's Run trail earlier this summer and came within inches of sinking its teeth into a University of Alaska Anchorage cross-country runner on the Spencer Loop Trail in late July. Police: tiger attack victim was drinking and admitted taunting

Getting drunk and taunting a tiger. Add this to the list of things I officially will not be doing.

Tiger attack victim admits taunting, police say
SAN FRANCISCO - One of the three victims of San Francisco Zoo tiger attack was intoxicated and admitted to yelling and waving at the animal while standing atop the railing of the big cat enclosure, police said in court documents filed Thursday.
Paul Dhaliwal, 19, told the father of Carlos Sousa Jr., 17, who was killed, that the three yelled and waved at the tiger but insisted they never threw anything into its pen to provoke the cat, according to a search warrant affidavit obtained by the San Francisco Chronicle.
"As a result of this investigation, (police believe) that the tiger may have been taunted/agitated by its eventual victims," according to Inspector Valerie Matthews, who prepared the affidavit. Police believe that "this factor contributed to the tiger escaping from its enclosure and attacking its victims," she said.Sousa's father, Carlos Sousa Sr., said Dhaliwal told him the three stood on a 3-foot-tall metal railing a few feet from the edge of the tiger moat. "When they got down they heard a noise in the bushes, and the tiger was jumping out of the bushes on him (Paul Dhaliwal)," the documents said.
Police found a partial shoe print that matched Paul Dhaliwal's on top of the railing, Matthews said in the documents.
The affidavit also cites multiple reports of a group of young men taunting animals at the zoo, the Chronicle reported.
Mark Geragos, an attorney for the Dhaliwal brothers, did not immediately return a call late Thursday by The Associated Press for comment. He has repeatedly said they did not taunt the tiger. Swans
The seven-year-old bird was rushed to an RSPCA animal centre after being found with a crossbow bolt through its neck at a park in Liverpool.
While treating him, vets also found pellets from different guns under his skin and evidence of other attacks
Swan Facts:
Swans are large water birds of the same family which also includes geese and ducks.
Swans usually mate for life, though "divorce" does sometimes occur, particularly following nesting failure.
Young swans are known as cygnets.
An adult male is a cob
An adult female is a pen (origin unknown).
The term 'swan song' comes from the ancient Greek belief that a swan sang a song of death when its life was about to end.
Swans have far more neck vertebrae than mammals, with 24 or 25 vertebrae; most mammals only have seven.
Swans in general have the largest eggs of any flighted bird.
Swans are known to have a triumph ceremony. Such ceremonies are when a male attacks a rival suitor, then returns to his potential mate to perform an elaborate ceremony while posturing and calling
1- Males are larger than females;
2- The knob at the base of the male's upper bill is larger than the female's knob. By the way, its this knob that distinguishes the mute swan from all others;
3- The neck of a male is thicker than the neck of a female.
A swan has some 25,000 feathers
A group of cygnets or eggs is called a "clutch"
A group of swans in the wild is called a herd while those in captivity are called a fleet

Wildebeest Facts
The wildebeest also called the gnu an antelope of the genus Connochaetes. It is a hooved mammal.
The name gnu comes from a Bushman word for the wildebeest's bellow.
Only one in every six calves survives its first year.
Both males and females have horns, although the male's horns are thicker and heavier than the female's.
To groom itself, the wildebeest rubs its face either on the ground or against a tree or partner.
All wildebeest populations across Africa have declined except for the Serengeti population
Wildebeest are noisy creatures. Bulls have an array of loud vocalizations, from moans to explosive snorts.
Wildebeest grow to 1.151.4 metres (3 ft 9 in4 ft 7 in) at the shoulder and weigh 150250 kilograms (330550 pounds).
They inhabit the plains and open woodlands of Africa, especially the Serengeti. Wildebeest can live more than 20 years if they are not snatched by crocodiles, lions or illness.
Wildebeests live in more densely packed herds than any other large mammal, except for humans.
Calves can stand and run within 3-7 minutes after birth.
At night white-bearded wildebeest sleep on the ground in rows; this provides them with the security of being in a group while allowing them space to run in case of an emergency.
Their spectacular northward migration in search of greener pastures is dictated by weather patterns, but usually takes place in May or June. It is considered one of the greatest wildlife spectacles on Earth, involving up to 1.5 million wildebeests as well as hundreds of thousands of other animals, including zebra and gazelle. The wildebeest also called the gnu an antelope of the genus Connochaetes. It is a hooved mammal. ... more -
