Rolling Up The Charger Cord, Permanently
Cords, cords cords. In today’s world, electronic devices almost define us. Along with them goes corded chargers. Since companies love to sell you accessories, they are all proprietary, meaning you have to have one for each of your devices. I have a box full of wall chargers and I haven’t got a clue what they go to, just sitting in my closet. Most from old devices that are stored somewhere in this apartment, I have no clue where.
Named one of TIME magazine’s best inventions of the year, the WildCharger is a flat, thin pad (it could easily be mistaken for a mouse pad) with a conductive surface. When the pad is plugged in, any cell phone or other electronic device that is set on it automatically begins to charge. Well, OK, it’s not quite that easy: the cell phone or device must first be equipped with a WildCharge adapter in order to power up. An adapter connects to a device’s battery cover and has tiny bumps all over it that, when in contact with any part of the pad, receive power and transfer it inward. The pad can be used universally with any device that has an adapter – meaning all different types and brands of cell phones or music and video players can be charged on any pad. And, the charging speed is exactly the same as if the device was plugged into an outlet with a charger.
Right now the device is limited to certain brands, such as the Motorola RAZR and iPod. Each device has to be equipped with an adapter that allows the charge to reach the battery, but can’t you see this being updated so all you have to do is lay any electronic device on it to charge? It will sense anything that is not meant to be on it, such as car keys, and shut itself down, then restart once those items are removed and a compatible device is set on it.

Bush Lifts Ban on Offshore Drilling
President Bush today lifted a presidential ban on offshore oil drilling on the outer continental shelf that was implemented by his father, escalating a confrontation with Democrats in Congress over how to cope with soaring gasoline prices.
People should be up in arms!
Lifting the executive moratorium has no immediate practical effect, because Congress enacted its own prohibition on offshore drilling in 1981. It would have be to rescinded for exploration to proceed.
Bush first called on Congress to lift its drilling ban last month, saying he would simultaneously rescind the executive ban issued by his father in 1990. But he said today that he decided to act now because Democrats have failed to schedule any hearings or take the issue seriously.

Nokia has announced its Supernova series with four new models: 7210, 7310, 7510, and 7610. Targeted at fashion-conscious consumers, the Supernova phones sport a stylish design along with customizable Xpress-on front- and back- covers in different colors and surfaces.
The Nokia 7210 Supernova is a candy-bar phone with tri-band GSM plus EDGE support, FM radio, 2 mega pixels camera, and SD memory expansion slot, among others. The Nokia 7310 Supernova is also a candy-bar model featuring a 2 mega pixels camera with 4x digital zoom. Helio "Don't Call me a Phone Company" Mobile was acquired from Korea's SK Telecom today by Sir Richard Branson's (of the UK of those not in the know) Virgin Mobile USA for a down right cold $39 Million - a meer $230 per subscriber.

Da oggi cambiare operatore è indolore
È stato approvato dall’autorithy un provvedimento che finalmente dovrebbe mettere fine ai problemi che gli utenti hanno sempre avuto nel cambio di una connessione ADSL e in particolare nel cambio operatore da alternativo ad alternativo o di nuovo verso Telecom.
Fino a ieri infatti non esisteva alcuna regolamentazione in merito e non era possibile passare da un operatore alternativo a un altro se non perdendo il proprio numero, come non era possibile cambiare ADSL se non attendendo la scadenza naturale del contratto, o pagando penale o comunque finché il vecchio operatore lasciava libera la linea.
Da oggi cambia tutto, sarà possibile passare da un operatore alternativo a un altro o verso Telecom senza perdere il proprio numero, i due operatori, saranno infatti obbligati a seguire determinate procedure che non daranno disguidi all’utente e che ne garantiranno il passaggio indolore senza la perdita del numero, come avviene oggi da Telecom verso altri.
Lo stesso principio viene adottato per il cambio ADSL, l’utente invierà la richiesta di attivazione e di disdetta al nuovo operatore, il nuovo provider provvederà a contattare il vecchio e accordandosi troveranno una data utile per il cambio ADSL, che in seguito verrà comunicata all’utente che nel peggiore dei casi, si troverà senza servizio per qualche ora.
La procedura dovrà durare al massimo 30 giorni dalla richiesta dell’utente (che comunque resta con la linea fino al momento del passaggio e poi conserva il numero telefonico).

In ritardo di una settimana sul concorrente Vodafone, Tim ha lanciato il portale informativo dedicato ad iPhone 3G.
Le informazioni fornite sono le stesse e anche i prezzi: iPhone 3G, privo di contratto, costerà 499€ e 569€ (8Gb e 16Gb).

"HOP-ON" STA PER INVADERE L'EUROPA CON I TELEFONI USA E GETTA!
Dei telefoni usa e getta se ne parlava già qualche anno fa, ma ora Hop-On sembra pronta ad invadere l’Europa con 10.000 telefoni monouso che faranno da banco di prova per verificare se questo tipo di prodotto può avere successo nel mercato. Nell’arco dei prossimi 60 giorni, infatti, alcuni Paesi europei, di cui non si sa se anche l’Italia sarà compresa, riceveranno i primi dispositivi che utilizzano le reti dual band con un processore costruito da Texas Instruments.
Oggi la tecnologia è bifronte: da un lato c'è una corsa a produrre telefonini sempre più innovativi o dal design raffinato, come l'iPhone di Apple, dall'altro c'è chi mette sul mercato cellulari iper-economici come l'Hop On 1800.
Le funzioni sono ridotte all'osso: se escludiamo la suoneria polifonica (16 midi), la vibrazione, i tasti con rilievo braille per non vedenti e il blocco tastiera non c'è altro. Niente schermo, niente rubrica, niente sms. Il cellulare low cost si presenta come una sorta di vecchio telefono di casa in formato mobile. Costa dieci dollari e, una volta utilizzato, se lo si rimanda al produttore per il riciclaggio, si recuperano cinque dollari.

Il 58% delle persone che possiedono un cellulare vive in Africa. Una delle ragioni di questa diffusione è il grande mercato dell'usato. Molti di questi telefoni, scartati dai mercati europei o giapponesi perché ormai fuori moda o perché soppiantati dai modelli di ultima generazione, vengono inviati ai paesi in via di sviluppo. Nella pagina web www.combonifem.it è possibile leggere alcune statistiche sulla crescita del numero di cellulari in tutto il mondo. In Gran Bretagna, ci sono voluti 15 anni perché i telefoni mobili riuscissero a superare quelli fissi, mentre in Tanzania questo ricambio è avvenuto in 5 anni. Se la diffusione della telefonia mobile continuerà con questo ritmo si pensa che nel 2010 i cellulari in circolazione saranno 4 milioni. Questi apparati promuovono inoltre le piccole imprese come nel caso delle comunità rurali dell'Uganda, del Senegal o del Kenia. In questi paesi in via di sviluppo, dove le distanze sono realmente enormi, dove il mercato della telefonia fissa è stagnante e un grande fetta della popolazione non ha modo di comunicare, i cellulari facilitano molto la vita alle persone che lavorano. LO SVILUPPO ECONOMICO DELL'AFRICA PASSA DAL CELLULARE
Le principali aziende telefoniche mondiali offrono ai propri clienti la possibilità di ricevere denaro contante anche nelle zone più remote del continente, grazie a un semplice messaggio di testo.
Molti africani che vivono nelle zone rurali dipendono infatti dal denaro inviato loro dai familiari che lavorano nelle città, ma spesso devono percorrere centinaia di chilometri a piedi prima di riuscire a entrare in possesso del contante. In Kenya, ad esempio, chi lavora in città si affida agli autisti degli autobus per far arrivare il denaro ai propri parenti. Anche chi ha un conto corrente in banca, oggi pochissimi rispetto ai 950 milioni di africani, non dispone facilmente del proprio denaro a causa della mancanza di sportelli nelle zone di campagna. Se gli sportelli bancari sono rari, i telefoni cellulari sono invece ormai milioni, per cui le compagnie di telecomunicazione stanno favorendo la trasformazione del cellulare da semplice ricevitore di chiamate a uno strumento capace di trasformare l’economia africana.
